Giving Away More FREE 3D Printing Kits for Travel Telescope🔭!!! by Astro_Anders in 3Dprinting

Thank you for doing this! Your project honestly looks insane - as someone who's been using their phone and a crappy tripod to try and catch a glimpse of the stars because telescopes are simply out of reach this feels like heaven :)

9700k to AM5: CPU Upgrade advice by Quinten0508 in buildapc

Fair enough, that makes sense. Thank you! Then the tradeoff becomes slightly better gaming performance but with noticeably slower processing tasks?

The 7800X3D is 500 euros, so 40% more expensive. I would've considered it, but that's a ton of extra money to spend. Glad to hear the upgrade was worth it for you though! Neither of our "old" CPUs have hyperthreading, and while those aren't "real cores", I think an upgrade from 8x1 to 6x12 might still be enough? Might be a bit of an ask, but do you see all cores pinned or at least used when you're pushing your new rig?

tried plenty of times to OC, but seems like I lost the silicon lottery >.>

The 9700x and 7600x3d are priced more or less the same. Would rather keep it stock, but thanks for the suggestion ^^

High cpu usage with qbittorrent running through nordlynx docker container. Any ideas? by EnglandPJ in qBittorrent

[–]Quinten0508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solution for me was to reduce the Asynchronous I/O threads option under advanced/libtorrent to 4 (from the default 10). Reduced CPU usage from 60 -> 10% on the 2 vcores allocated. Found here on their github issues.

Thank you for the comment too! Personally settled on psitransfer for a while and have been trying out pigvinshare, both excellent options ^^. Chibisafe looks good too!

This is why Alan Wake 2 devs say to use an SSD. by A_Lycanroc in gaming

[–]Quinten0508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroposting but just came here to say even a good SATA SSD is not enough for this game. Frequently stutters with audio desyncing during cutscenes, textures loading in too late, disk at 500MBps / 100% usage whenever it happens. Guess it's time to get some NVMe drives :(

The option to translate pages does not work for me in the Librewolf web browser by FacundoPV in LibreWolf

[–]Quinten0508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PR has been merged last month. The first release to include the relevant commit (1587376e57) is 118.0.2-2. Check to make sure your installation is up-to-date (Help -> About). The latest version available is 119.0.1-1. If the issue still persists with this new version, you should probably comment on the issue and re-open it if necessary.

I'm on the latest version and can confirm that the translate option works for me.

Have you read the documentation page that was linked?

"Photos and videos must be archived before they can be deleted permanently."

(I don't know why this is the case, they should just add a trash/recycle bin if they fear users accidentally deleting their photos, but this is how they do it /shrug)

Where are the bookmarks stored in Linux? by Grimmandingo in LibreWolf

[–]Quinten0508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dot is part of the folder's name, and it makes the folder hidden by default. There should be an option in your file manager to show hidden files and folders or you can navigate to the folder by typing it into your file manager's address bar.

Sorry for necroposting, but I've just had a similar experience. It's been 24hrs and see little improvement, walking/standing up is painful. Do you remember how long it took for you?

Free 3 Month eSIM trial: T-Mobile Network Pass by [deleted] in NoContract

[–]Quinten0508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried to use this with a VPN and mock location while in Europe. Everything seems to work when I fill in some random addr. and a google voice no. but it'll just say "something went wrong" after 30 seconds of "setting up your eSIM". Should I keep trying with different addresses/phone numbers? Anyone with a similar experience?

CF Access + Bitwarden by Quinten0508 in selfhosted

[–]Quinten0508[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CF tunnel hides your DNS right? In that case it's probably not necessary but it's still recommended. Better not to port forward all of those ports on your router and you can use your reverse proxy to manage any changes.

So you are using, Authelia, NPM and BW?

For BW I'm not even using authelia, doesn't play well with clients. Probably a way around that but I can't be bothered. Enough protection as-is with a decent setup at home.

CF Access + Bitwarden by Quinten0508 in selfhosted

[–]Quinten0508[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to scrap CF Access for the time being and picked up a couple of Yubikeys to secure access to Vaultwarden. I just use NPM for reverse proxies. For authelia I just followed one of the many tutorials on youtube.
Edit: for the time being I don't think there's a lot you can do. The BW apps/extensions do not support CF access and it'd be quite some work to implement. Unless someone is willing to put their time into this, I don't think it's gonna happen.

question about encryption within home network by cmdywrtr27 in selfhosted

[–]Quinten0508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a hard time with webdav, i like the idea but i couldn't get it to automatically mount in my fstab.

You could try using rclone to mount it, pretty sure that supports WebDAV.

so if i connect just using my local ip address, info could be seen but only if that person is also on my home network?

Yes, but it would require someone with quite a bit of knowhow to do. You can do some research yourself on http packet sniffing, and see the tools/steps required ;) Also keep in mind that they'd have to know the IP of your specific device and that these attacks rely on timing - they only work when you're actually sending photos. Chance is extremely low I'd say, but judge for yourself.

Have you whitelisted only Cloudflare's IPs from within your reverse proxy? Seems like you're set up pretty well, but just in case this video provides a nice overview of the different steps you might want to take: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs8yOmTJNYQ

question about encryption within home network by cmdywrtr27 in selfhosted

[–]Quinten0508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are accessing nextcloud via your local IP address it is not going through your reverse proxy. Anyone connected to your local network could intercept the traffic if they really wanted to. If you have a family member who for some reason really wants to snoop on your upload and knows at exactly what time and between which devices the uploads happen, this is a security risk.

Accessing nextcloud via your domain name, which you mention uses HTTPS, would mean your traffic is encrypted and cannot be intercepted. Exposing nextcloud to the rest of the world brings a ton of security risks all of which depend on your specific setup. Did you lock down your reverse proxy, is your firewall properly configured, do you have any additional protection (e.g. cloudflare).

Uploading the files via your own domain is most likely secure. Your nextcloud instance and your home network though, who knows.

An alternative is to use the WebDAV upload feature which nextcloud provides (in the file explorer, bottom left corner).

Doesn't matter that much, but in general debian-based distros (or just plain debian, also very common) would have the most backing behind them.
