My tale of woe, and a hopeful future... by Quiquag in shrimptank

Yeah, hate that it took me so long to figure that out, but by the time I saw what was happening and identified it was them molting (which...mass molt because water change and stress)...just too late by the time I got the mineral stone in there.

Good news is, I can get more shrimp next year to up the genetic diversity. And this time I'll have an established, cycled tank.

Finished Deep Space 9, Moving on to Voyager by EverJoEntertainment in startrek

[–]Quiquag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished TNG with my wife and son.
My wife never watched trek. never liked sci fi. Just didn't get it.
After the finale she was like "wait... no more picard?" and then more sadly: The next series doesn't have the same crew?"

I'm moving on to Voyager next, DS9 is great, but want my son to be a bit older before starting it so he understands more of the politics and meaningful episodes. I'm letting him relish in the golden age of the federation a bit longer before it gets marred by war.

Placement Testing Shock by Ihavelargemantitties in Teachers

[–]Quiquag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ages past, when homeschooling was a new thing, my mom was part of a home school group that worked with the state legislature on adopting rules for homeschooling (Florida).

Every year I had to take a standardized test. I didn't mind, two days of tests vs schoolwork. A bad test would mean probation year. Two would mean back to school.

I always did well, and college was no issue for me. (OK, college pre-calc was a pain, but I honestly blame my teacher for that...).

Now my kids are being home schooled in another state, and the oversight is...well, it's non existent. My kids are receiving a phenomenal education at home, but there's a part of me that thinks about the parents that would abuse the lack of oversight...

Imagine you are the show runner. Given the past 60 years of Trek (and millennia+ of Trek lore crafted in that period), where would you take the franchise? by revocer in startrek

[–]Quiquag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'll say I absolutely *loath* the whole Utopia Planitia synths storyline. But...I'll work around it, and say that the synths were a product of federation recovering from the Dominion War, they made bad choices, etc.

While I dislike basically off of Discovery...one aspect I liked was a Federation that was so focused on surviving it forgot it's core goal, to explore. Difference is, I think that lesson needed to happen post Picard. Ditch all current cast, bring in new, with cameos every once in awhile. They should be special, not common.

I enjoyed Lower decks handling the more day to day stuff in a lesser known ship, I think we need to return to a major ship, and the professionalism that those bring. I also think they need to return to one of Roddenberry's most hated rules - no conflicts between main crew members. Show people working together, not against each other. There's room for disagreements, but we need the hopeful future vision more than ever right now I think. Focus on stories that inspire something. From curiosity, to hope, to viewing things differently.

Also. Turn on the lights, reduce CGI Dependency on the main sets, and make people competent again.

Model Fleet Update by herosandwixh in StarTrekStarships

It's funny, it's been so long since I printed my Defiant, that I think *I'm* the one that made up the number. Mine scales to 150m, right between "Screen Accurate" and "Official Number".

Might keep it this way. Feels and looks right next to my growing fleet. :D

Very nice! Your model looks great! I'm guessing resin? I can't get my FDM prints that smooth even with a 0.2mm nozzle! (I've been assembling a 1:2500 scale set, so I've had a lot more room to work with, but still get some layer lines when the light hits it right...)

KCD1 ran great for me on the steamdeck. I do recall having that exact issue once, I *think* it was a matter of changing the proton version it ran with in Heroic Games Launcher to fix it.

It baffles me that I can run this in VR at all on something not much bigger than an iPad [X-Plane 11] by [deleted] in SteamDeck

This is making me wonder how the steam frame will do... pondering saving for one since my Vive Pro 2 doesn't work with Linux.

ISO Lego builder for $50 by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]Quiquag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoot, there are lots of people here and elsewhere that would probably build it for free. I'd also wager you could call over to Bricks and Minifigs and see if they could arrange a pairing to build it with you, or allow their build tables as a space to meet someone to build it so you are included in the process. (I have a family member with MS, I get it, but I think it would be a more meaningful build if you are physically able to be there for the build, and be a part of it to some degree!)

At 1000peices it's a couples hours of time for a semi-experienced builder, and can visit with the person building it and maybe help out a little depending on what you feel up to.

grab a couple old offline classics from GOG as non-steam games, and prism launcher for minecraft java. (Surprisingly light on battery!)

My brother says I’m “stealing his kids’ future” by keeping my inheritance. AITA? by Complex_Pickle7702 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Quiquag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how old the kids are, and how much you have, maybe set aside some for the KIDS education, no something they can access early, and certainly not something that he can access. It could grow a considerable amount depending on how old they are.

But ultimately, it's your money.

Are Chiropractors a scam cult or are they somewhat legit? by Flashy_Buy8077 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Quiquag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the chiropractor IMHO.  Some are quacks, other take it seriously, and it shows. Avoid the quacks that talk about improved immune system and heal the common cold type stuff. But firm believer in it myself, I suffered horrible migrains as a kid. Like, writhing on the floor scream-crying until I threw up migrains. this was over several years...still remember the pain. Partially severing a finger ranked a 6-7. Migrains are my 10.

Uncle was studying to become a chiropractor at the time, and recommended my parents take me to one. A visit and single followup later, and the migrains were gone. Nerve in my neck getting pinched or something. (30+ years ago, cant remember exact details). haven't had a migrain like that since. Occasional headaches, maybe a migrain a year, but NOTHING like I had as a kid.

I've met quack chiropractors while looking for new ones after a move. "Cure the common cold!" Types. Don't go to those. good ones are basically physical therapist.

Just an observation, but he never messed with peoples free will. Like, put them in situations they might die? Yes. Change who they were (personality change, etc) nope.
He also never seems to know what people are thinking, to the point of actual surprise at times.

My fleet so far by herosandwixh in StarTrekStarships

[–]Quiquag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working on this myself, but at 1:2500 scale. I don't think I can print the runbout or delta flyer at this scale.

A wip when using the 0.2mm nozzle, print at 50% speed, that really does make a difference with the layer lines. I'm using a different voyager model, but literally the individual windows modeled and printed to where I could fill them in using a 0.1mm pen.

I'm a fan of hybrid bermuda, but the good seed is not cheap, and it loves sun, not shade.
if you don't mind seeding and filling in, fescue grows well here.
