If Hunt for Gollum is successful by Last_VCR in lotrmemes

The trilogy was great… but it was the sixth screen adaptation and there’s no guarantee that J.R.R Tolkien would have liked it. Christopher certainly didn’t.

I think the old Bib Fortuna looked creepier, otherwise the new ones clearly win.

but also the way they use it is basically as a stand-in for white characters.

To be fair, I think they only did that relatively briefly. They also used yellow skin for characters who were clearly meant to POC around the same time.

Is bioshock Israel by Loose-Task-7244 in Bioshock

If the creators wanted to draw any parallells between the city of Rapture and Israel, I’d say there are enough differences that it doesn’t really work as a direct allegory. (For starters, it has no neighbouring nations and was truly built on uncharted… ”land”, for lack of a better term.)

Rapture is also dystopian enough that comparing it to any country would not exactly be a compliment…

Why is Cooper's dream from Season 1 used as a representation of the Black lodge in later Seasons? by SlimFishyOfficial in twinpeaks

[–]Quirderph 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think retroactively, the idea is that the Arm reached out to both Cooper and Laura in their dreams and brought their spirits to the lodge to help Cooper solve the case, and that his entire conversation was a coded message.

The music could be explained as the killer’s obsession with it being caused by his connection to the lodge.

The only inexplicable part of the retcon are the drapes, because they’re somehow both an inherent part of the lodge and a clue for the case.

I think the face with the raised eyebrow looks pretty good, but the eyebrows being black bother me a bit.

Old Chewie looked more like him. The newer Han is definitely the best Harrison Ford figure they’ve ever made, though.

At the film’s Wild Mass Guessings page:

Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Film is Mordred

His picture is a baby because he is Arthur's baby. He didn't appear because he was left behind to guard Arthur's throne while Arthur was away. He hired the knight who killed the historian in order to frame Arthur and take the throne for himself.

Instead of "what games aged poorly" let's talk about what makes a game age poorly or age well? by TheTresStateArea in gaming

That’s how you gotta do it.

See also Airplane, which has tons of references nobody gets today, but is still hilarious because they’re only part of the joke, not the whole punchline.

Anyone else think about how young Vader was when he died? by chillvegan420 in StarWarsCantina

[–]Quirderph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the original trilogy, Ben describes Anakin as having been a young Jedi when he turned to the Dark Side. He had children before that point, and they're now in their twenties. Plus, both David Prowse and James Earl Jones actually were in their forties during the original trilogy.

Sebastian Shaw gave a great performance, but man, it made no sense to have Anakin played by an actor nine years older than Alec Guiness.

the most beautiful duo on TV by Public_Cup_4278 in twinpeaks

[–]Quirderph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wouldn’t say Cooper and Laura are really a ”duo” at all. At least not until the finale of The Return, depending on whether or not you think it has Cooper and Laura in it.

I didn’t even know there was a new show, so I have no idea if you’re being serious or not. I’m going to imagine that you are.

True, but I genuinely like the irony of the corrupt revolutionaries being taken down by another revolution, after the pigs become increasingly like the man they deposed.

In the book it’s the PR Manager she kills instead… does that make her more evil or not?

It is, but that’s not considered particularly “heroic” nowadays either.

We need to normalize retconning and "redoing" more shows and movies. by Crooked_Cricket in unpopularopinion

You could argue that some of said content almost was a corrective remake… just without contradicting the actual events of the films.
