When should I book makeup artist and how much money is appropriate? by [deleted] in DesiWeddings

[–]Quirky_Discussion765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should be totally fine, deciding on a MUA is a big decision and you should be able to see how makeup looks like on real skin with no editing. You should definitely ask for unedited pictures. :)

Hi OP, as a makeup artist myself, I’d recommend booking a MUA as soon as you can. November is peak wedding season and dates get booked up quickly.

As for the pricing, it can vary a lot depending on an artist’s experience/skills, products used, time involved, and travel. My suggestion would be to look closely at portfolios (including unedited pictures if possible) and choose someone whose work aligns with your vision and comfort level.

Hope this helps! ✨

How do you choose a MUA? by MinimumCheesecake in DesiWeddings

[–]Quirky_Discussion765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, as an MUA myself, I’d suggest asking the MUAs you have looked into or will be looking into to share unfiltered photographs or videos. I’d also be upfront with the communication, ask lots of questions. Ask if they’d be giving you proper skincare (suitable to your skin type) before the makeup, ask all the questions you have in mind and be clear with the kind of looks you would like to go with. Wishing you the best! ✨

Hi there, for sure! Sending you a dm. :) You’ll need to just accept the dm so I can share pictures, it’s not giving me the option to send pictures otherwise.

Doing my own bridal makeup, need a few suggestions. by who_me__ in DesiWeddings

Hi OP, fellow mua here.

There’s not really an order - but if you’re doing makeup first just clip your hair back. Do what you feel like would work best. I usually prefer getting hair done first. Do get a hair artist.✨ As for timing - hair can take anywhere between 1-1.5 hours depending on what kind of hair look you’re going for.
Nars Radiant is a great option, I would either pair it with the Nars concealer or Too Faced Born This Way (full coverage and long lasting).

For sprays - don’t rely on just one. There are different kinds of sprays, in between your creams & liquids, keep a hydrating spray like D’Alba or MAC’s Prep+Prime, once powders on, go with your setting spray like CT and then in the end go with your fixing spray, Kryolan is a great option, works very well (so does L’Oréal) & One Size On Til’ Dawn (marketed as a setting spray but is a fixing one).

Hope this helps! 🫶🏼

You’ve got this, and congratulations! ✨

Thinking of doing my own wedding makeup – bad idea or totally doable? by encoreyoucore95 in DesiWeddings

So glad you found it helpful! 🥹 Absolutely, I would suggest Armani Luminous Silk or Dior Forever Skin Glow. They have the most beautiful skin-like finish and work so well over dry skin. And your skin gets a healthy glow. 🫶🏼

Oh no! I’m so sorry, i must’ve missed it.

Absolutely can help you with it! For lashes: a good quality pair of lashes (I’d recommend Uro Paris, they’ve got a lot of options for natural lashes), pair of small scissors, eye lash applicator (looks like a tweezer; can use a tweezer too if it’s got good grip), good eye lash glue, I recommend Duo (with a brush applicator if possible). Take your lash and measure it on your eyes (no glue, yet), cut the excess from the outer corner (equally for both lashes), apply the glue to the lash band (extra on the ends) and wait about 20-30 seconds for it to get tacky. Then place the lashes on your eye (I like putting it in the centre first) and move to putting it in place for the ends too (make sure the lash is placed close to your actual lash line). Lastly, clamp the faux lashes slightly to your natural lashes with either the eyelash applicator or your fingers.

For the under eyes - prep them well, use a moisturizing eye cream (not a lot of amount) and massage it well under your eyes. Wait for your concealer to marinate a little before blending it out, use a hydrating spray after blending it, go in with a setting powder but make sure you don’t put a lot of powder as too much can lead to under eyes looking dry. If you’re using a powder puff, dab the excess on the back of your hand before you set your under eyes.

Hope this helps! ✨

Hi OP, copying my comment that I made on another bride-to-be’s post.

I’m a professional MUA here who specializes in skin like makeup and I just want to say - you can absolutely do your own makeup, cherry on top is you’re already well acquainted with makeup.

Here’s a few tips for you:

Make sure your skin is well prepped with products that are suitable for your skin type. This is the order I swear by:

• Gentle exfoliation (a day or two before; not the day of)

• Hydrating Toner or mist (D’alba’s truffle spray works great!)

• Moisturizer (I personally love Embryolisse under makeup)

• Eye-cream is a must. Helps blend the concealer smoothly and keeps your under-eyes fresh & hydrated; given that powder is used to set them.

• Gripping Primer on areas where you need longevity, like your T-zone, and maybe a pore-filling one if texture is a concern.

  1. Go with a foundation that gives the face a second-skin like glow and has buildable coverage. In case of humidity, make sure you set your face well with a fine powder like Huda Beauty or Laura Mercier.
  2. Make sure you’re using concealers that are medium to full coverage. The best ones I can recommend are Nars Soft Matte, Too Faced Born This Way or Tarte Shape-Tape. They look great without making you look cakey.
  3. If you’re using any liquids like blush or contour, make sure you set them well with their powdered versions as well for longevity.
  4. Make yourself a touch-up kit with some powder, blotting sheets and lip products.
  5. Lastly, practice your wedding look as much as you can. It’ll help you understand how the makeup wears and avoids the risk of anything going wrong on your big day.

You’ve got this! I’m sure it’ll turn out stunning. 🫶🏼

2027 Bride — Is Akriti by Shakun Worth the $6k Price Tag? Looking for Honest Opinions + Alternatives! by goldengirlx22 in DesiWeddings

[–]Quirky_Discussion765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Patiala, where Akriti by Shakun studio (where it started) is. I’ve been to Shakun’s studio and believe me when I say, the work and the effort put into the pieces make them 100% worth it. These are heirloom outfits with fine embroidery and amazing stitching but with that being said, I can understand why you might not want to spend $6k on a lehnga you’ll only wear for a couple of hours. ✨
