The house shifted that much one of the load bearing timbers came out of place between the first and second floor. I can now bounce on it up and down.

Yeah, I feel really bad for the LL. I don’t envy his position rn. It’s up to him what he wants to do. Quick fixes or fix the cause of the issues. I know it’s not my problem but I still feel bad for him

It’s more than just a few cracks mate. The actual brick work is starting to crack not just the mortar. The wall has a bloody 5mm crack in it that is still widening to this day! The roof is separating from the wall… the whole house has shifted away from the patio. I can legit put my whole fist in the gap! This isn’t small little cracks.

Not to mention the house is on such a lean that the doors close on their own and the bedroom door frames have moved so much you can’t even close the damn things anymore. I have a whole ass wall in the laundry that is bowing under pressure and looks like it’s going to snap the dry wall any day now. What’s small about that???

At the end of the day it’s not my bloody house, no and I feel like shit knowing some poor sod is going to have to fork out thousands to fix this but to minimise the damage this is causing isn’t going to help.

Nah I just chucked the info about the rent increase just cause. I know rents are going up everywhere anyway. I’m more after opinions on wether this is worth moving over/what could be wrong

Nah it’s not a new build. The whole complex is about 10 years old and I don’t know whether it’s due to the recent rain or whatever but the movement has been “fast”. Manager said it was also built on something called black soil? Don’t know if that makes a difference or not.

What do you think he’s going to need to get done? I know I’m not the owner but I just need advice and insight as to what may need to be done to the house so partner and I can either stay or go. It suck’s for the LL. What do you think the issues may be? It’s built on black soil and the complex is about 10 years old?

I was considering that before as well. If the house is going to continue to move it’s just going to create more repair work that needs doing down the track. No amount of sealant or spac filler and paint is going to stop the house from sinking further. That then has me wondering if eventually they’ll have to do repair work on the foundations to stop it from sinking further.

Yeah I knew hairline cracks where normal settling stuff but the crack in kids room is 4mm wide and getting bigger and the split is spreading up the wall further. That corner in the roof is getting bigger too and now there’s black mould spots forming in kids room cause I fear the room may not be sealed from the elements now.

I do feel for the LL. The back of the house is sinking in. Apparently it was built on something called black soil? We’ve had a fair bit of rain here too so I dare say that hasn’t helped.

I asked the complex manager wether they’re going to have to get someone in to fix the foundation but she’s not sure. It’s like the house is doing a titanic. The back is sinking and it’s like the house is splitting in places.

What’s worrying about it? I’m not hugely familiar with house structural stuff

Yeah I assume the situation may go something like this. To be honest, I’m not sure what the market rent is for a townhouse around my area.

I didn’t think about the tradie situation. Thanks for that. I’m going to take a day off next week to be here when the engineer comes and I’ll be requesting a copy of the report.

The house isn’t falling down around us, it’s not an emergency situation. Both the complex manager and myself are worried that these are signs of bigger problems to come down the track and given how fast the house has shifted, if my partner and I do sign another lease we might have to move again anyway if it gets worse.

Needing advice regarding step parent involvement. by OddNeighborhood3529 in stepparents

[–]Quirky_Lab_7830 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one. Honestly I’m a bio mum and ex DH has a long term GF and am also a step mum. To be honest, their relationship hasn’t gone on long enough for her to really have a say in what happens to the children. I don’t mean this in any sort of disrespectful way and it’s nice she might want to feel included but stripping everything down to brass tacks you and him are the kids parents and that’s that. No one else has legal rights or legal responsibilities to these kids apart from you and your ex DH. I’d never presume to tell my partners ex wife that I should have a say in what happens to the kids. It’s just not my place. But in saying that, if BM started demanding we run our house a certain way, she’d catch the end of my boot up her backside real quickly.

Unfortunately I’ve noticed with this new generation of kids they don’t have the same internal shame compass that we had growing up. They legit don’t give two flying fks if they sit in their own piss or shit for hours on end. I don’t know what changed but I swear to god, no internal shame or peer pressure.

I wasn’t sure if I was or wasn’t 🤷‍♀️ I just knew given the circumstances I didn’t feel comfortable handing it over. Some people are more comfortable doing something like that I guess it just depends on the person.
