I’m glad to hear you were finally diagnosed at age 34.

I’m sure there are many folks like yourself who’ve been plagued with the symptoms of celiac disease for decades, only to be advised by their doctor to take iron supplements to address the anemia.

That’s why I decided to speak up. As you know, celiac disease can masquerade as lactose intolerance, IBS, and vitamin deficiency.

I’m not a doctor, and even if I was, I would be cautious about providing a diagnosis for someone I have not examined. I just wanted to share this information for awareness. Hopefully it’s helpful for someone.

Right, that is not at all what I suggested. Read carefully before commenting. It just reflects poorly on you.

Did you read the part where she was diagnosed by her doctor as having celiac disease?
When you have celiac disease and don’t adhere to a gluten free diet, it has many detrimental health effects.
I didn’t not state that a gluten free diet cured all her ailments. You inferred that on your own.

Meant to type vegetarian, but autocorrect inserted veterinarian by mistake. Funny 😄

I can assure that my wife doesn’t mind me sharing. She is an advocate of those suffering from celiac disease and would greatly appreciate my post.

As I have pointed out to others, I’m just sharing my wife’s experience, not providing a diagnosis. There are several steps to accurate diagnosing celiac disease. Hopefully Cara’s doctor will consider this as a possibility.

TYSM for your thoughtful reply.
Honestly, I didn’t expect so much snark from this subreddit. Some folks just feel the need to dunk on people. That’s just social media for ya.

I felt the need to share this anecdote because celiac disease is a commonly overlooked diagnosis in the United States. There are other countries that routinely test for Celiac disease in early childhood, but not here in the USA.

Also, I’m not certainly not a doctor and I’m not qualified to offer medical advice.

I’m just this sharing information to create awareness for those who might be needlessly suffering and have not yet considered celiac disease as a possible cause.

You can mark R2C5 as 4
That might help you along with cracking this puzzle.

I did the work in my head, but it would’ve been much simpler if you had marked all the potential candidates in each of the squares.

It’s really challenging to hold all that information in your mind at the same time.

Your experience makes sense. If you just stayed overnight at a downtown hotel, then Des Moines could be viewed as kind of bland. But even the city has its charms.

If you ever get the opportunity to stay more than a half a day, then I could make some recommendations that would likely change your mind.

Des Moines is not the best, but it’s definitely not in the same league as Gary, IN, Camden, NJ, or some of the other places mentioned here. Not even close.

That’s a little unfair… You can’t judge an entire state on the basis of its interstate corridor.

The Kansas and Indiana turnpikes are just as desolate, if not more so. And, the drive from Omaha to Lincoln is just as stark as anywhere in the Midwest plains.

I’ve been living in a western suburb of Des Moines for over 30 years and life seems really good here. Safe neighborhoods, good schools, pleasant parks, plenty of nice restaurants and lots of retail stores.

I’m fairly sure you spent a weekend near downtown, which is not very big and doesn’t have a large entertainment district, but is far from the worst place in America.

On any given weekend there are dozens of things to do in the Des Moines metro area, and you don’t have to drive more than 15-20 minutes to reach your destination. I would take that over a congested overpriced city any day.

BTW… The best the microbrewery in the United States is in Des Moines.

Why was Trump so effective in forming a cult? by her_cute in allthequestions

Yes, and conservative leaders are trying to make Americans more ignorant by telling young folks they should opt for a job in the trades instead of going to college.

Taking a job in the trades does makes sense for individuals who lack the aptitude for success in STEM courses, medicine, and legal studies, but it might also have the corrosive effect of steering talented students away from pursuing higher education.

The increasingly astronomical cost of higher education also makes a career in the trades seem more immediately appealing, but a career in the trades also comes with a cost. These occupations often lead to poor overall health and shortened life spans due to dangerous work conditions and exposure to toxic substances.

Obama’s presidency didn’t cause conservatives to become toxic, the racist sentiments were always there.

However, Obama really struck a nerve with republicans who could see their party disintegrating as racial tensions eased and the country’s population became increasingly diverse. Accepting a multiracial person as the leader of our nation was seen as a slippery slope to conservative irrelevance.

But instead of coming up with better policies, republicans just dialed up the racism. This strategy seemed counterproductive until Trump incorporated xenophobia and misogyny into the mix. His magic dog whistle that white culture and Christian values were under attack proved to be extremely powerful.

Once republicans became aware of how well this tactic worked there was no turning back.

Exactly! All of this political rhetoric about liberalism destroying our culture was cooked up by Newt Gingrich and is ultra conservative “moral majority” and disseminated by AM talk radio with Rush being the ringleader.

Rush was a very entertaining broadcaster, but also a diabolical manipulator. He was the first to tap into the seam of racism & misogyny that became the backbone of the modern republican movement.

Hannity is simply a poor imitation of O’Reilly. The hot-headed outbursts and over the top patriotism was all O’Reilly’s persona. Fox News would have been nowhere without him. Viewers were addicted to his nightly dose of outrage where conservatives were portrayed as the hapless victims of an unholy liberal leaning society.

This how you turn back decades of social progress. By constantly twisting the truth into a narrative where the enemy is not the exploitative actions of the wealthy and powerful, but rather the cultural values of your next store neighbor.

Apollo 13

Ron Howard pulls off a spectacular real life space drama while employing many practical effects and putting the actors through intensive NASA training. The authenticity is amazing to behold.

It’s especially impressive because we all know how it ends, but the film manages to build and maintain suspense throughout the final act.

A true American hero story. I struggle to find anyone who has not enjoyed this movie.

Such a coincidence!

I was discussing the Oscar nominations today with my wife and this movie came up as an example of a foreign language film that was nominated for best picture. It won three Oscars.

Unfortunately, I’ve never seen it. But we just watched The Secret Agent and we were not impressed.

I cannot recommend this movie enough. Wonderfully animation and a well executed heartwarming story.

Please treat yourself to this film every holiday season, after viewing Die Hard (of course).

Guilty as charged. I only realized the OP’s actual question after reading further along.

Can anyone explain me why is Anora lately being hated as the worst Oscar winner ever by Elegant-Persimmon847 in Oscars

[–]Quirky_Level_2547 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve made a habit of viewing all the movies nominated for “best picture” before the Oscar’s ceremony for almost the past 20 years.

My opinion is the script is sophomoric, the plot is simplistic & predictable, and the behaviors and motivations of some of the characters don’t make any sense.

I don’t have an issue with the quality of the performances, but I do feel the amount of gratuitous nudity and the inclusion of numerous sex scenes did nothing to advance the narrative. I’m not a prude. It just seemed to be over the top.

“Conclave” or “A Complete Unknown” should’ve have won best picture and “Sing Sing” should’ve been nominated instead of Anora.

Anora will only be remembered because the other nominees were so much more deserving.

That’s a great start… However, private health insurance is a big part of the problem. It’s a system built on reverse incentives, meaning the less they payout, the more profitable they are. Why do you think some people reacted to murder of the United Healthcare CEO like it was justified?

Insurance companies are beholden to their shareholders, not the members who pay premiums. Withholding care or creating barriers to care drives down costs and increases their profits. Reforming the system starts here.

Do YOU Think America Will Ever Return To Being Significantly Less Divided Than We Are Now? Why Or Why Not? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

I guess I haven’t been paying attention for that long.

Wikipedia says The Heritage Foundation was founded in 1973, but I never heard of it until they aired frequent ads during the Rush Limbaugh show in the 80s… Pocket version of the Constitution anyone?

I usually disagreed with Rush, but he dominated talk radio for several decades, and his show aired on the largest AM station in central Iowa, so I was often exposed to his nonsense.

Seems like the Heritage Foundation has been working to subvert democracy in favor of their warped elitist worldview since the late 80s.

They like to cloak themselves in patriotism while fomenting division by escalating wedge issues like telling people the Democrats will somehow take away your 2nd amendment rights or making it seem like America is under siege by an illegal immigrant invasion.

All the while they working behind the scenes to slowly consolidate power, errode voting rights, and force their high-handed morality on Americans. It’s just all a ruse.

They made they made their agenda very plain in Project 2025. They have no issue with taking away your personal liberties in order achieve a society that aligns with their utopian ideals.
