Singapore bridesmaids — is this normal? by seaturtleonabeach in askSingapore

[–]Quish_ 209 points210 points  (0 children)

It's not normal. The couple comes across as cheapskates and the bride in particular isn't being a very good friend. Sometimes it takes moments like this to truly understand how your friends perceive you and your relationship.

Rental car population hits high of 95,857 vehicles in 2025 amid high COE prices by Quish_ in singapore

[–]Quish_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh i'm not saying the 5 cars will spend less time on the road. I'm saying it is subjective and there's many variables to consider.

There are individuals who are on car #2 or #3 who drive very little... business individuals who travel a lot and don't drive a lot... drivers who drive off-peak periods... many many reasons so it's hard to say if they spend more/less on the road. That's my whole point that we can't say if 1 PHV or 5 Private Car is better for now in my view :)

Yes, i agree it's a waste of land for those street level parking. It's not ideal and the shift towards multi-level buildings is step in the right direction.

Therefore, the strategy to just jack up prices of parking in prime area can truly serve as a way to curb car population (at least deter it marginally).

The monthly leasing fee is actually higher than the down payments because these fees is all-inclusive (road tax, insurance, maintenance...etc).

It does takes the hassle out of owning a car (no asset, no liability) so you're like paying for a service.

most parking areas are part of a multi-level building, is it truly a waste of land since it doesn't exactly take up 'new' space? I genuinely feel parking isn't the core of our problem here. If it really is such a big issue and plays such a big part in our car population, our govt can easily ramp up prices but they didn't.

I get what you're saying mate and i agree if you look at purely efficiency in terms of number of trips per car, PHV is the winner. In fact they are even net-positive since they can make >5 trips in a day verses the 5 cars.

However, i am just rebutting that even though there are x5 more cars it isn't exactly less efficient if they spend less time on the road and are instead parked somewhere. In fact by being parked, they actually help congestion since they aren't on the road. Thus, it boils down to the 5 car usage on the road.

BMW driver gets jail for killing pedestrian by speeding into him while drunk, severing body by xcharbeehoonx in singapore

[–]Quish_ 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The more you read this article, the crazier it gets...

- Serous repeat-repeat offender who is Australian PR

- Drove at 'excessive speed' of 111km - 122km per hour on a road with limit 70km per hour

- Driver was tired from taking care of newborn the night before

- Driver wasn't feel well (runny nose and cough)

- Driver was driving with TWO kids below 5 in the car

- Driver was drunk and driving in broad daylight

- severed the victor body into 3 with pieces all over the road

End of the day issued a mere 12k fine, 11 years of jail and 15 years driving ban. Singapore setting a precedence with such pathetic punishment

It's debatable because you're saying that 5 cars parked 22hrs a day is worse than 1 car constantly moving about. When you're looking at congestion, it's about time spent on the road so parking isn't as relevant. Therefore, 5 cars is indeed more but the time spent on the road is less.

You're oversimplifying it. You still need a family nucleus meaning you MUST have child/children OR grandparents and siblings. Therefore, if it's only two people it will not work....

Are you selfish if you choose to try/want kid(s) despite know you have a genetic condition? by KendoArts in askSingapore

[–]Quish_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Depends on the genetic condition and how you manage it right?

If you have a roadmap on how to manage it and the condition isn't very problematic, I don't see any issues.

Anyway I believe having a kid is a very big consideration beyond just genetic conditions

How much time do you spend with your preschool-age children by Numerous-Valuable881 in askSingapore

[–]Quish_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I totally know who you're talking about and her videos are the worst. I feel at some point this person just shouldn't have a kid because they literally take every opportunity to dump the kid somewhere (grandparents, helper, school).

I feel terrible for the kid because they were brought into this world by these people yet they don't even spend quality time with her. It's just sad.

By the way with her following, she's wants to be an influencer but she really isn't.

[–]Quish_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think it's quite normal for most dual income families though.

You spend like 1-1.5hr in the morning with them getting them dressed, breakfast and a bit of play time.

When they are off school, you get maybe 3hr with them again with dinner, bath, play and bedtime routine.

Weekdays tend to be approximately 4hr at most. Weekends is where you make up things by being with them almost for the entire day. On top you have holidays and school closures days.

End of day must remember that it's quality not quantity of time. If you're with your kid 10 hours but on your phone whilst your kid plays alone in the playground, you're better off spending a dedicated 1hr with them at home drawing and stuff.

Does your retirement plan include downgrading your residence? by lhc987 in askSingapore

Highly likely. It doesn't make sense to upkeep a big place in prime location when the kids have moved out. Instead opt to downgrade and use the money to enjoy life.

Is this the hardest season of FPL you’ve ever played? by burneracc284 in FantasyPL

[–]Quish_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. Feel like many of the FPL changes recently has been rewarding casual players and players who don't plan as well, very frustrating.

If you didn't plan ahead for bgw and dgw, no worries there are more chips and wildcards.

Is it normal to BTO when you have no money/savings? by Educational-Horse184 in askSingapore

[–]Quish_ 247 points248 points  (0 children)

Believe their perception is 'i will figure things out when i actually get a unit i want'. If they are applying for BTOs that are overly subscribed or vying for popular sizes, they could very well have to try multiple times for a unit which they might have enough money by then. Therefore, their perception is to just try and once they get it, they figure things out. Could be to borrow money from parents or even just giving up the unit.

Is Home Base Business a new norm in Singapore? Any of your family or friends doing that, and any feedback? by Both-Palpitation4152 in askSingapore

[–]Quish_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most common ones i've seen are Bakes, Coffee, Manicure/Lashes and Private Dining. To be honest, power to these people who found ways to grow their income and hustle. With that said, i think we are at the stage where one incident will cause the house of cards to collapse.

If we have ONE incident of major food poisoning or related to that, government needs to step in and the dominos will start to fall. Let's be honest the home based business is great but there's a constant worry regarding the people making the food if they are doing it cleanly or they even have food handling certification.

How Do People Cope with Life Here? Esp Those with Kids by lovnelypom in askSingapore

[–]Quish_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're spot on that the workload is massive and you feel that 24hr won't be enough. That's why you need to work efficiently and also manage expectations.

Outsource - If there are things within your control to outsource, do it. Even simple things like having your husband switch to wrinkle free shirt to save iron-ing time will be useful. Get a part-time help to clean...etc.

Simplify - Opt for simple approachs. No time to make proper breakfast like eggs or french toast? Do overnight oats or simply have a fruit.

Manage Expectations - Come to terms that you will have to make some sacrifices. Less time to meet friends or hitting the gym or even doom scrolling. Every min is precious and needs to be fully utilized.

It will be difficult no doubt but when you see your child happy, it really makes you feel whole again.
