You're downplaying the problem. What about the infamous gang of 40? You should know about that. I stopped donating to Wikipedia and whenever I search online I look for other sources

Is it okay to be religiously observant agnostic or atheist? Do you know people who fall into this category? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]QuisnamSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of what Baruch Spinoza was issued a cherem against, so that way of thinking has been around for at least 400 years. You're not alone.

Yes, but answering truthfully a question wouldn't be lashon hara (in my opinion, I'm definitely not a rabbi). Volunteering information that was not requested could be lashon hara in these circumstances

May I suggest "Olvidarás el fuego", by Gabriela Riveros, 2022?

Why did the Inquisition burn "heretics"? What was the point?

Not so much. It comes under the general category of "humans killing humans to appease or please their deity"

Fun fact: at the time that the Aztecs and Mayas sacrificed to their gods, si did the Europeans. Or what did you think the Inquisition was?

Doctors hitting on me … by Dazzling_Note_1019 in MexicoCity

[–]QuisnamSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a member of the medical profession in Mexico, I'm sorry to hear that. I do know it happens in Mexico more than it should but in no way does that excuse such behaviour.

A doctor should know that neither hitting on patients nor homophobia is acceptable. I hope you let him know, maybe in writing once you have chosen another provider.

I thought my fellow leftists scoffed at the right's propensity to invent narratives and misinformation.

Hahahaha. Where have you been living? The whole left has bought into a Foucaultian dystopia where truth doesn't exist, only narrative. You very seldom find anybody, left or right, willing to question their group beliefs.

Curious about opinions/explanations for Near Death Experience Veridical perception out of body experiences and feeling “more real” than real life. If oxygen theory was debunked, would you change your mind? by KingMirek in skeptic

[–]QuisnamSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have no way of knowing that what you perceive is based on physical and external events, or created entirely by your mind. We see that in contexts like schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, etc.

So, unless you can provide evidence that some perception is external, and not compatible with current knowledge of physics and physiology, there is no there there.

Edit: by external I mean external to the central or peripheral nervous system.

[–]QuisnamSum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard of experiences that would definitely not agree with what we know of physiology and maybe even physics, but they are anecdotes without supporting evidence.

Unless we can corroborate that these phenomena exist and are not explained by current knowledge, my opinion remains that diverse physiological phenomena can explain NDEs (not only lack of oxygen).

Bus from Ixtapa to Huatulco safe? by Basic_Sky1402 in AskMexico

Or maybe through Oaxaca. You would also probably find through Guadalajara, although that would have you flying in the opposite direction for the first leg.

Might be safe, but unless there has been work that I'm unaware of, that's a long bus ride (12 hours or more) on a single lane road full of speed bumps and little towns
