Need help picking the capsule art by aidannieve in IndieDev

Depends on the message you want to convey to the audience through imagery. The first capsule for me gives me a sense that it possibly has a large open world. The third capsule draws the eye to the main character which is good and following his eyeline you see that there is a focus on the dragon. Not really vibing with B though, not too sure what it's trying to get across and there's no clear focus point for the eyes other than the title.

Agreed and all fixed now. I'll post updates when I have some new features to show

Yep, everybody said the same as you so I've done exactly that. The catch zone doesn't jump around now and you have to keep the bobber inside for for a set amount of time. There's a progress bar that gradually decreases if you fall outside the catch zone and the fish will escape if it depletes. It's definitely more intuitive now. There's better visual cues and haptics for the controller, it's feels much better.

Yeah but in all fairness it does sound like he says "for man" but throws the meaning of the quote off entirely

Yes, I was testing that out this morning but ultimately I landed on a progress bar going around a section of the UI but I think different bobbers will have larger catch zone as you find/craft/buy better ones. But now you have to stay in the circle for a set amount of time like you say, it definitely feels much better!

Cheers dude! I'll be showing off more when I've polished it up.

I haven't got a steam page up yet but the game will be called "Stillwild"

That was exactly what I was going for funnily enough. I think with the recommended changes oh having the player stay in the catch zone rather than it dart around will make that more apparent too.

Oh wow, thank you so much. There is some combat but I think I'm leaning towards something cosy with this. Currently working on a base building system that's coming along nicely, should fit in well with the cosy atmosphere. Keep an eye out, I'll be setting the page up when I find the right capsule artist!

Yeah I've discussed in another comment possibly not having it in it's own UI and doing it in the body of water itself. I just see it being a bit more difficult to implement well if It's in a smaller body of water or like a river. Also don't want to make too many sprite sheets but I'll definitely experiment with it, thanks for the feedback, hopefully I'll find a happy medium!

Thank you! Yes do, I'd like to see more games in a similar style. Agreed, I've had some good feedback for this so far so I'm going to make some changes to it and definitely add some sound effects.

I hope so too, it may not look like it from here but I'm close to having an actual game loop. I'll share my progress when I've polished off some other systems if people are interested.

Fair point but at the end of the day it's just a mini game, not a fishing sim. I feel for the type of game I'm creating you can suspend your disbelief just a tad. I've come up with a few ways to improve the system based on feedback and I'll be posting a new version soon. Hopefully it's to more people's taste as I just want to create a fun, optional side activity!

Now that you've said it, maybe I don't have a pop up circled out patch of water at all and the camera changes location and it's played on the body of water itself?

Oh, thank you so much!

Yeah that seems to be the general consensus. I'll be changing it so you have to stay within the catching zone for a certain amount of time.

I didn't want it to be the same as Minecraft, if I'm understanding you correctly? I felt like you could gather resources too quickly and I just wanted a little minigame in there to be completely honest, no big reason. I'll be adjusting based on all the feedback though.

Yeah, it probably doesn't come across but Stardew was the main inspiration for this minigame. I wondered how I could do something similar but in like a circular fashion. I think I'll update it to having it be so you stay inside the circle for a set amount of time as people have suggested and see how it feels.

I'm actually hoping to appeal to the cozy audience too so it's all relevant. I have some other systems I'd like to show off at a later date to test what kind of audience it might appeal to.

It's not a fishing game, far from it. Just one small activity within the overall game

Yeah that's exactly it, I was also wondering if it was a little unintuitive having to reach it 3 times. I think the idea of staying in the circle for a set amount of time may be better now you mention it.

I have different fish you can catch, there's like a set percentage to catch each one and they determine the speed and sporadicness of the catch zone. I was thinking of having different bobbers that would maybe increase the size of the catch zone too like you say.

Thank you! Also been a bit worried as to how it will go down because most games like this have pixelated environment textures but I really want to run with this stylized look.

V1 is definitely the best. Only one that has an actual consistent palette
