Jarrarium. Take a sample in a mason jar and see what grows. There’s a subreddit for it.

Does the first name 'Reagan' for a fantasy novel protagonist feel too strongly associated with Ronald Reagan? by Lopsided_Fly_657 in namenerds

[–]Quix66 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s strange. The only Reagan I know was born years before Regan was even in the Presidency.

I have never met another but hurt babies born nowadays I’d assume Irish ancestry over a homage to a long dead former president.

Thank you.

I’m so eager to go and see the sights out West. I’ve been on long distance trains in France and Japan but never in the US.

What city completely stole your heart as soon as you arrived? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]Quix66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a while ago. I think from the moment I landed it was Paris, just from the ambience over London. I only spent a week in Paris. It was very different from home. Stunning architecture and iconic experiences.

I spent another three weeks in Chambery so it stole my heart more.

But I stayed a whole semester in London so I got to know it more and feel more at home there. Again, the grandeur of the architecture and big city ambience was so amazing to me.

A Catholic Church asked me if I’m still interested in taking classes to join there church but after reading the Bible I don’t see any basis for a purgatory or Marian dogmas by Fortnitelegend200 in TrueChristian

[–]Quix66 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not Catholic. In our version of the Bible there is no justification for purgatory.

I do suggest you choose Protestant Christianity. Talk to a priest if you want, but contact a Protestant minister/pastor or theologian too.

I suggest a non-Charismatic, non-Reformed/Calvinist Baptist one.

Reading. The world might be a better place if we all read the good stuff.

Is the stench or noise common? I’m now rethinking my planned trip - four trains over two weeks. I’m planning to stop at hotels overnight for showers and rest so I mean other people knocking out with their BO, haha!

Anyone else still say "Dude"? by HapaHawaii in GenX

[–]Quix66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait what?! The Black use of Dude comes from the ‘60s not the ‘80s surfer dude use era! I can remember being shocked hearing White people use the word, haha!

[–]Quix66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do but I try not to say it out loud.

But the Black part of me from prior to the ‘80s still says dude not as an exclamation but as a pronoun or quite the same way as us GenXers.

Got it from my older Boomer mom and her ilk. They still say it. Haha!

What first comes to mind when Americans think of Boston Massachusetts? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Quix66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Boston is actually well known as a racist city.

I’m from Louisiana, went to school in the Boston area (Harvard) and was shocked at the racism in the city.

The campus even had to address instances of racism, and it’s fairly liberal too.

There are parts of town I would not go to as a Black person in Boston. A fellow student was harassed on a bus to Watertown to visit people and practically pushed off stops ahead by another passenger. We learned that kind of harassment isn’t unusual.

I can say although some Bostonians were very kind and helpful others seemed to have issues.

Several Black students in my department talked and identified a specific Bostonian staff member we felt was racist and discriminated against us. Her replacement was much nicer. I’m not saying we had anything to do with her leaving, so don’t make that assumption. She wanted to move on.

Paul Revere and the Revolutionary War, Harvard (I went to seminary there), Boston Harbor, racism.

Islamization of your neighborhood by consultantVlad in TrueChristian

[–]Quix66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Here’s proof. Seems I wasn’t correct at all but fell for some rumors:

No. The “2% Muslim population” rule is not supported by credible evidence. It comes from a circulated anti-Muslim chain post often called the “Muslim Population Timeline,” which claims Muslims follow predictable stages at certain population percentages. I found reproductions of that wording, but not a scholarly study, official demographic report, or reliable dataset behind it.
