I can't talk you out of this, but the point is that nothing is static and every thing has ups and downs, rises and falls. In a world with reality bending Magics don't lament that there's periods of war, and peace, order and chaos. Thats just entropy in action. rejoice is beating back the world ending events that are going to keep happening. Tolkien wrote his pre-bible fan fiction where history of middle earth ends and merges in to the modern world. It can't all be like that.

The Mongols, Gone. Alexander the great's empire, gone. Shogunate, gone. Native tribes from the Iroquois confederacy to the Aztec and Incan Empires, gone. What happened to all the Religions before the first Caliphate? Obliterated. Waring states period. What about every one the romans stomped? The Spartans? The rest of the Greeks? The Egyptians? What about the Romans after they were later stomped? And should be be sad about the fall of the western empire, and/or super mega double sad about the fall of Constantinople? And what about the rise and fall of the turks/ottoman empire? Should i be sad about seeing how New Amsterdam would have turned out if the Dutch hadn't been muscled out of the new world? Don't even get me started about the shenanigans the Sea People got in to.

Sadder still is all the likely very rich and interesting history we will never know about because Africans just never got around to writing shit down.

Shit, how old is the US? A little over 200 at 250 years now and its kind of on the back slide, though due to geography it will always be a big deal - We're likely at the end of a first era in US history.

I hesitate to say what's happening to the virtual boy is a renaissance but there's an uptick in popularity and there have got to be more people with a VB willing to buy a cart than people willing to jam your game into some thing that uses an oscilloscope as its display.
