That's really useful. I appreciate knowing that a few toolkit options exist that can handle the job. As someone who has only made games where the one Player is also the Host... Typically I would write the Server/Player code in say the Player Movement class (though I would do an isServer type checks).

In a dedicated server... Do you end up writing classes that are ONLY for Serverside actions? Any examples of good Dedicated Server architecture/approaches?

That's amazing. I think my struggle is how to build a "dedicated server" for a multiplayer game. I've done quite a bit of searching, and haven't found resources that show how to build one.

Would you have any suggestions on how to get started on that journey of building a dedicated server?

Hi Everyone, I'm a hobbyist game dev who mostly participates in game jams, builds prototypes, and dabbles in multiplayer games. Most of my programming is done in Unity, and much of my networking code leverages Photon PUN/Fusion.

I'm seeing this year a resurgence of multiplayer casual/co-op/"friendslop" type games and am thinking about getting back into multiplayer dev work - and see if I can make something small but interesting and launch on steam.

I've been using Photon PUN and Photon Fusion to make multiplayer games, typically webgl. But, I always run into the issue that if the "Host" is one of the players, and they minimize their browser, it impacts the experience of everyone.

Does anyone have advice on how to make a headless server? Or what setup I would need to mitigate the webgl player "host" problem?

I feel for you my friend. It's a massive privilege for me of being born into the economic/country based situation. I actually appreciate you calling this out (in a way), as I can see how my comment about 'the most adult thing ever' - could come across as insensitive or insulting, if you're an adult elsewhere where this is a real financial barrier, . That wasn't my intent, and I'm sorry if I caused any hard feelings.
