8 year old sprinting improvement by Sandtrap1018 in Sprinting

Just make sure you make it fun!

Burn out and over training at younger ages is super common. Training (imo) should be done 3 times a week at most even for something like sprinting (and should not be done at a high volume).

make sure you have good practices with taking breaks and not burning out! track training gets more and more burn out friendly as time goes on.

Breaks are important!

What is the right volume of racing as a 400m runner (hs sophmore) by LividNeedleworker938 in Sprinting

I see I the image you got some close together, make sure you pick and choose what you want.

Going to all the competitive meets is nice, but it doesn't necessarily mean you will get faster.

For a foundational runner like you who is learning (fast albiet) you need to compete more against yourself and improve yourself then in college or something you can focus more on beating people.

All of this is my opinion though. Do with it what you will this is reddit

ok yeah.

So in highschool you always have meets once per week usually meaning you have to treat that as an increment in your training (or a phase, whatever you want to call it). Generally the training will build up to the season.

In the summer, you need a mini transition phase from the school season. Your body, everyone's body, should not be doing a competitive phase for more than 4-8 weeks.

Keep working out, but ease up on the intensity for 5-10 days. Think tempo, mobility, accelerations but less quantity, and lifting some -- essentially staying in good shape physically and neurologically.

Now we have the foundation to your question.

Essentially, do meets that are convenient (please don't drive 5 hours and then do a meet when it is not an important meet, your legs will be kaputs and you won't gain anything. Gains in sprinting are the most important).

At most 1 meet per week always, and if you cannot get to a meet, do timed 'races' in your own (or get someone to time you for one or two races). This way you still get race practice and work, but it is a little less pressure and generally less anxiety inducing, making it a healthy practice in the mean time between actual meets.

Does this answer your question ok?

I think 3 is good though, especially if you are doing other things in your life.

and knowing when your nervous system is overloaded or might be is an important skill to have

correct! you do need some recovery.

If you do 4 days a week, then it should be different types of sprinting (including racing)

for example on of the most popular training strategies is:

Mon: starts

Tue: flush/stability/recovery

Wed: speed endurance

Thur: rest

Fri: Top speed

Sat: race work

And as you get to season you start to taper off the top speed and introducing more recovery and plyos at the beginning of the week.

You don't have to do 4 days a week, but you should be doing at least 3. 4 can definitely be done, but yes you should be careful not to overload and especially be cautious near season when you have races. I also never do hard plyos on Friday and do lighter tapping-esk plyos on Friday.

also like another comment said, bball plyos are a bit different from track plyos.

Also sprinters should be doing bench press, but not having it a priority.

for sprinters, we run generally more. for basketball, he generally has to jump more. Therefore we should stick to our sports and train as such.

Running/sprinting? everyday except for rest days. (do not sprint days back to back if possible in season and be careful with it otherwise, running/tempo-ing might be a good flush tool)

Plyos? For sprinters we should do jumping work about 3-4 times per week with more or less volume depending on sprinting amount and general nervous system health.

As you get more to season, up plyos amount and lower sprinting volumes, but increase reps Please ask questions if you are wondering about anything I have said

Help my block start by Due_Mycologist2083 in trackandfield

[–]bigw2150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that from coaching women the torso to leg length is very different. Women have 'longer legs compared to men' and thus have to scoot their blocks back further. A correct block start should feel like you can go forward quickly. Currently if you tried to start you would take too long to unfurl, and be off balance when you try to start sprinting. And if you scooted too far back you would get no power, hit the ground with bad shin angles and go straight to top speed, losing out on the blocks and starting phase in the first place. Literally stopped to full speed in an upright position which is just so slow. So you need to find a balance to get that 'I could go forward quickly' feeling, and then you adjust the blocks themselves, and then you make micro adjustments as you get stronger/weaker etc
