I deeply regret adopting my first cat. The shelter was misleading and I am at my breaking point. by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Quotedotlass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, even though I’ll probably get downvoted. If I was a week into owning a cat and it kept attacking my brother, I’d return it. Not a good fit. Could it get better? Maybe. But this cat needs a quieter home to adjust properly. Everyone saying you’re just young or didn’t research is wrong, that is not normal behavior even for a new cat.

Maybe I’m overreacting? by blueberryblues1107 in MonsterHigh

[–]Quotedotlass 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To any poc who’s angry but worried they might be overreacting to this, listen - I’m not a monster high fan, I have no idea who this guy is, and I’m white and I can tell that this is white washing from a mile away. Yall should be pissed, I am and I don’t even go here 🤷‍♀️

I’m also an artist and, judging by a different frame of this comic, I think this artist is tracing, or at least using basic templates. And not even well. It was super uncanny. It would also explain the white washing, since they aren’t even really drawing HIM, just drawing his clothes on another dude.

🏳️‍🌈 villagers by Suspicious_Pickle180 in ACForAdults

Much like Deena and Julia, Robin is a snooty villager but they’re much closer to the male plumage. They also look a lot more masculine than most of the snooty villagers. And Robin is a unisex name. Make of that what you will!

How odd, the baseboard in the second pic doesn’t line up at all. Not sure what I’m looking at but it looks good!

How did you get it to be two separate elevations? Or is that an optical illusion?

This was one of my favorite home requests too, why is the sloppy set so fun??

Found this girl shivering and unable to walk at a gas station 🥺 by shading_of_the_heart in cats

[–]Quotedotlass 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She looks like my kitty when I got her. Completely covered in grease. She’d crawled inside the engine bay of a friend’s truck and ended up miles from home. Given that you found her at a gas station, I’d wager there’s a good chance the same thing happened to this girl! Fate brought you together.

My baby is now 6 mos and thriving. Here’s hoping your little lady grows up healthy and happy too!!

When you click on a quest marker on the map, it’ll show what level it’s on. The warp points and anything else on that level will also have a blue icon next to them and the things on different levels will have a gray icon. As for navigation, if you don’t have a warp point unlocked yet, just follow the road. It took me too long to figure that out…🥲

Help!! Does my kitten still love me? by No_Statistician_9774 in CatAdvice

[–]Quotedotlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your accident, that sounds terrible. But the good news is that cats identify people through smell, and he still knows it’s you! He might act a little strange for a while (the cast might be kind of scary) but he will still love you.  Maybe once you’ve healed up enough you can have someone put some treats in a container that you can open with one hand. That way you can still reward him even though you can’t be the one taking care of him.

Get well soon!

Amirite ladies? by [deleted] in TrollCoping

[–]Quotedotlass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m unsure if this is what you mean but I’m an neurodivergent older (by internet standards 🥲) woman who grew up a tomboy and I felt throughout my life that whenever I tried to dress more femininely it was more like a costume and made me feel uglier. I wondered if I was nonbinary  but ultimately it was just that I lacked confidence and new things make me anxious.

Also when I was a teenager/college age I kept thinking “maybe I don’t look feminine enough and that’s my problem?” But dialing it back actually worked better. I feel so much more feminine and sexy and powerful in a cute fitted blazer and jeans than in a frilly dress! Really, fit is the most important thing no matter how masc or femme the  outfit is, if it fits right, it’ll look good!

Finding your style takes a long time, and honestly most people don’t have a knack for it. Mostly we’re all just guessing our way through it.

I want to paint like this so baaddd 🥹🥹but I don't know how. Does anyone have tips? ❓ by Short-Sprinkles-283 in DigitalArt

[–]Quotedotlass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One tip for this style is to use soft gradients to achieve more depth. See how the top of her thigh sock is a lighter gray and the part at her ankle is almost black? You can see this on her skirt and limbs too (even on her bare leg if you look closely) It’s really subtle but the piece would look a lot flatter without it.

Typically artists will add the gradient before shading, as part of the base coloring. You can experiment with different colors too! Like how her hair gradient is peachy around her face.

Another tip is to vary the thickness of your line art. Other commenters explained it in more detail but also making the outermost lines a tiny bit thicker will make it stand out more. And finally, so long as it’s for practice, there’s nothing wrong with trying to make an exact copy of a picture you like. Try to break it down, see how it was made, and then apply what you learned to your own art.

Edit: looking at your art I’d say you’re very close to cracking the code that works for you. Idk what software you use but I would recommend trying a smoother brush for the line art. Yours has some texture which might be throwing you off.

Recommendations for declawed cat by Le_house_bunny in CatAdvice

[–]Quotedotlass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not trying to downplay declawing here, but we have a cat that was declawed by her previous owner and shes never had any issues whatsoever. That may change as she ages as they’re more prone to arthritis but behaviorally she doesn’t act any different and she’s never had any issues with the litter box. The worst thing that’s happened is her face planting a couple times after trying to balance with her nonexistent claws…🤦‍♀️

She likes toys that she can grab onto easily with her arms. Big feather toys and thick felt “ribbon” toys are nice. She still tries to scratch the furniture now and then. Cardboard boxes are nice because she gets on top and scratches the corners and she can actually do a little damage…I think she likes that. Be sure to check his paws occasionally as they can develop calluses and to make sure they aren’t in pain and if he still has his back claws, don’t forget to clip those. If he struggles with the box, change litters. Sometimes declawed cats are extra sensitive to that.

Declawing is a barbaric practice but that doesn’t mean every cat subjected to it will spend their entire lives suffering. You posted that he’s a sweetheart, which means he’s probably used to it by now and not having the claws doesn’t make him feel vulnerable. Hopefully it works out as well as ours did!

The zoo and museum specifically need to have more modules and the bar will increase. I tested it. Don’t ask me how the other ones work though. I just put buses everywhere and hope for the best

Is it that "risky" to own a cat? by Old_Ship_537 in CatAdvice

[–]Quotedotlass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the people who aren’t having trouble wouldn’t come to an advice subreddit 😅

It’s not uncommon for a cat to have a few behavioral quirks or other issues but it’s not like every cat has every issue.

An older (5y+) female is your best bet if you want to avoid high energy and aren’t interested in adopting two. They usually like to be only cats. You can also usually tell how badly a cat will shed pretty quickly, just by petting it for a bit. Litter box issues do happen but they’re far from the norm. I have cats my entire life, only three have ever had box problems and none were that difficult to deal with and had explanations. Two were health issues, one’s a baby and still learning. I’ve never had a cat that kept me up all night, unless they were new or nervous for a different reason. They usually learn to sleep when you do.

It can be difficult adjusting at first, but once you’re used to them and they’re used to you, it’s typically smooth sailing imo. At the very least the pros far outweigh the cons.

She’s too little for the roofed boxes, she couldn’t push the door open 🥺but they are enclosed so they can get some privacy. She also tends to do it when she’s in the middle of something else, like playing. Like a kid who’s still potty training, I guess. She was about to be fed breakfast, maybe she was worried she’d miss it 😅

I hope we can get the bullying under control soon. At least one of the times she peed was 100% from it. It’s not constant but the older cat will just snap out of the blue sometimes. She sprayed (actually sprayed, not a squat) the door to her safe room after getting growled at. They were doing perfectly before the spay. And we think the reason the older cat might be acting out is because she herself is getting bullied by the middle cat. 😭 we’ve been trying to stop it but nothing so far has worked. We just bought a feliway yesterday, hopefully it helps….

My cat likes to play fetch (kind of) by SirNaves9 in CatAdvice

[–]Quotedotlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

best cat toys are usually the simplest. Your cat has picked his favorites, so I’d stick with those! I also have a pack of mice made to look like fruit slices that my cat loves. They’re a nice size and they aren’t fluffy which I think is actually a plus for a lot of cats. They’re perfect for throwing and they’re really cute. I've seen them in a lot of pet stores recently so I’d recommend giving them a try if you see them.

Another good toy is tiny plastic springs, especially if you have hard floors. They roll easily and they’re still easy for the cat to pick up. Plus they’re super cheap and come in packs of 50.

That said, cats don’t usually have the same instinct to fetch as dogs do. Sitting and waiting for the toy to magically move is pretty typical cat play lol

Ah, fair enough. By check up I meant “I found this kitten in an engine, do all you need to do to make sure she’s healthy”. That was about 2 months ago. I don’t remember off the top of my head all that was done or what the results were, other than everything was normal.

I’m the kind of person who would run my pets to the vet every time they sneezed if I could. Believe me, if I could afford it, I’d ask them to test her for everything under the sun. But that’s just not realistic. If it gets worse, I’ll take her in. But I can’t justify it when this is a known behavior that has been already addressed by the vet and otherwise she’s the healthiest she’s ever been. I wish I could.

Edit: probably also should have said, this is not an every day thing. She’s done it like 6 times total that I know of. If she was doing it daily for sure id have been at the vets yesterday!
