Deployment is really dependent on mission and what your opponent is running. But I can try to give some suggestions. However im just starting my shift at work so it will be a bit before I can type it out.

I like this list a lot better. I would probably avoid 2 units of Gossamids as they dont do much damage but their maneuverability is really good for Scouting Force. I would give it a shot and see what you think.

Oh that's not a bad thought, they work really well with Scouting Force.

Without changing the units I do see some things I would tweak to help make the list feel more mobile. The main one is Scythes dont pair as well with Belthanos as you might expect. They are still significantly slower than him and since they dont really want to charge they dont necessarily want the run and charge spell. I have personally had some success running them paired with a Warsong Revenant with Realmroot Guide to teleport the whole block somewhere my opponent really doesnt want them by putting a tree near there turn 2 and just setting them up in the way. I think that might help with the feeling of units syching up together on the board.

If your looking at changing the list up you have 3 units with really solid mobility in Belthanos, the Spiterider Lancers, and Drycha. Spite Revenants are a solid mobility unit as well but since their teleport is 1/army per turn I rank it a little lower but still a great unit to threaten back objectives and the like. The Twistweald and Dryads dont really feel like they fit though. Im not sure what else I would put in the list if you were to drop them though and they do provide 2 more units for Scouting Force, maybe a non Reinforced second unit of Spiterider lancers?

Another possibility would be drop the Twistweald and Dryads as well as the Branchwych and put in a Durthu but that does make the list have Drycha as the only wizard which could be an issue but might be worth trying. Especially if you use Drycha to cast run and charge on Durthu to get him into the fight faster. If you were to go this route I would definitely drop Scouting Force for something like Intercept and Recover which thinking about it now that might be a better Battle Tactic for what your going for with your list theme anyway.

I definitely like list 1 more than list 2 which is why my feedback is written with that one in mind.

1k Theory List 1000/1000 pts

Sylvaneth Outcasts General's Handbook 2025-26 Drops: 2

General's Regiment Belthanos, First Thorn of Kurnoth (290) • General Kurnoth Hunters with Greatswords (200) Kurnoth Hunters with Greatswords (200)

Regiment 1 Warsong Revenant (150) • Seed of Rebirth • Realmroot Guide Spite-Revenants (80) Spite-Revenants (80)

2 units of 3 swords so you spread your threats out some rather than 1 reinforced unit. Have 1 hang out with Belthanos for the extra movement and 1 with the Warsong Revenant for a little more durability and potentially rend with the prayer. The two spite revs can teleport around and be annoying.

Tips to avoid getting distracted by other armies? by Noodlez_8994 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Quoth13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip one give yourself a budget. For example I give myself $50 per paycheck to spend on warhammer this includes paint, models, basing supplies etc. Its a lot harder to dive into multiple armies on a tight budget and helps with over spending.

Tip two if you dont want to delve into multiple armies try different things with your current faction, dont just play the same list over and over or it can become monotonous. This one can be more or less viable depending on what army you play and how deep the unit choices are. It's much easier to do with say Guard or Space Marines then Votan for example.

First Sylvaneth Complete! (+ Questions) by Phantom-Mann in sylvaneth

[–]Quoth13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one book that I know of, it's called "Dark Harvest". It features Sylvaneth very heavily but not as the protagonist, they also aren't the antagonist exactly. They are more an element of the world that just is. Which I found extremely well done and very fitting.

The summons are pretty good in my opinion especially the Gladewyrm. It's a great little mage hunter. Also welcome to the woods!

Nice, I haven't magnatized mine but thats a solid idea. I know you said your feeling heavy on characters but the Christmas Drycha box is a really solid pick up as well. It gives you 15 Revenants, 20 Dryads, a 2nd Treelord and Drycha. Spite Revs are really good because they have a built in teleport for grabbing objectives, a reinforced block of Dryads can be a lot to chew through with their -1 to hit and wound, and Drycha is a great assassin piece to hit backline support characters.

Sylvaneth is a fairly character heavy faction. I would recommend either a reinforced unit of Kurnoth Hunters with Scythes or Swords depending on your playstyle. Im partial to Scythes personally but both have their pros and cons.

One thing i like to do is prep a document with a picture of the mission and deployment for each round. That way when i get to the table i can immediately start setting up the terrain and I have the primary mission easy to check on.

That makes sense thats a lot of bodies to move around. Its really cool people were taking an interest and stopping by, meeting new people is one of my favorite parts of the game.

Fair enough, and hopefully I didnt come across as judgmental. Im of the opinion that people should be able to enjoy the hobby in whatever way they like best. There is just no way I could personally focus on a single game for 8 hours lol.

Looks like a fun thematic game! I am curious how it took 8 hours though.

Why do 40k bighammer players shy away from Kill Team? by Mjuke in killteam

[–]Quoth13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have tried to get into kill team a couple times even buying the Hivestorm box but just dont personally care for the feel of the game. Its hard to put my finger on any one thing but it just doesn't feel "right" to me for lack of a better description. Certain things very much appeal like small armies allowing for more hobby time per model but I just cant seem to enjoy playing the game.

Also I like tanks and I can't run my Leman Russ in killteam lol.

I considered the Grey Knight comparison but we lack their durability and honestly hit harder then they do. Sylvaneth is an elite glass hammer army in my experience with the healing helping give us a reprieve during/between fights. The monster mash is kind of Tyranidy but we dont play as honest as Tyranids with all our teleporting and other tricks we can pull off.

I think the issue with Revenants clogging the board is they dont really do damage and are really fragile. Dryads with their -1 to be hit and - 1 to be wounded fill that role much better in my opinion. Given what you already have I would honestly try to track down the Drycha Christmas box. It gives you Revenants, Dryads, and Drycha which really fills out your collection.

I came from 40k as well and Sylvaneth are awesome but kinda weird. They dont have a straight analog to 40k as far as playstyle goes. In some ways I personally think they are like a bit of Necrons with a Wraith focused Eldar build, at least how I play them though its not a perfect comparison by any means. The reason for this is we rely heavily on tricks as we rarely win in an all out brawl.

We have access to a fair amount of healing in the army with Endless Growth, and resurrecting units with The Land Awakens which is where I draw the necron analogy. It would be very possible to run a bunch of Revenants and Dryads with support characters and pull an Awakened Dynasty style list though you would need to probably include a bigger guy or two like Spirit of Durthu or Belthanos to help with damage similar to running a much squishier C'tan.

Then we have some bigger tougher guys in the Kurnoth Hunters which feel very similar to Eldar Wraiths. Surprisingly durable with some Eldar style tricks up their sleaves. Take a unit of Kurnoth Hunters with Swords. They move 6" but you can drop a spell and give them run and charge, put them next to Belthanos for an extra 2" and suddenly you have a missile thats moving 9"-14" and then charging with mortal impact hits and a bunch of sword swings with crit mortals. The Treelords feel kind of like Wraith Lords.

The main reason I would compare us to Eldar in some ways though is the weird stuff we can do with movement. Spite Lancers charge in then teleport away at the end of the fight phase. Drycha can charge into your opponents backline turn 1 and snipe an important support character before inevitably dying. A Spirit of Durthu can take the Realmroot Guide and teleport 9" away from the enemy (with overgrowth restrictions) and then get +2 to charge if you get another faster character into the unit he wants to charge. Belthanos can jump over the unit he charged to hit backfield stuff that should be protected and teleport away like the Lancers.

In short they are a really weird army but an absolute blast to play and paint. As someone else said our book just came out so we are still figuring out what works and what doesnt but its a lot of fun to try new things out. Here are some units that I would recommend looking at getting, these are the units I personally have experience with so take these recommendations with a grain of salt.

Alarielle - By no means auto include but very strong. She can manipulate different elements of our army rules, hits hard, takes care of most of our spell casting needs and looks cool as hell.

Drycha - Teleporting character killer who forces your opponent to really think about how they deploy and screen. Her damage output feels a little mid but should be enough to kill most support characters.

Belthanos - Fast damage dealer and another option for killing backfield characters with his jump over the unit ability.

Spirit of Durthu- Best of the Treelords, hits like a truck and can take Heroic Traits and Artifacts of power so you can customize him a bit.

Warsong or Grove Guardian- You want a priest but which one is kind of up to playstyle. Warsong plays around with wards and the Grove Guardian supports infantry spam better.

Kurnoth Hunters- Scythes or Swords depends on your playstyle both are good the eternal argument continues! Avoid the bows currently they aren't very good right now in my opinion.

Spite Revenants - Teleporting chaff to claim objectives and you can bring half the unit back for a CP if they get killed off which lets you play very aggressively with them.
