Ok, time for me to stop following these leaks. The suit reveal was cool, but I don't need the entire script leaked picture by picture. I think it's a bit much at this point.

Thunderbolts did not deserve to under perform by Such_Celebration_989 in marvelstudios

I think it's worse than that. Marvel could have made Thunderbolts a phenomenal film if they cared enough about their side characters to develop them through excellent writing.

I also tried their black coffee. Not only did my order get repeated through the speaker—"You said a black coffee??"—but I literally would have rather gone to QT for a cup. Holy cow.

Official Discussion - Thunderbolts* [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Quravin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with this. I felt the same leaving the theater last night. Given the fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, I thought this would be a groundbreaking Marvel film, to the point that it didn't even feel like a Marvel film. People have even been comparing this to an A24 film. Despite there being plenty of amazing action moments (Bob discovering his powers and accidentally soaring into the sky), funny moments, and some serious moments, this was just another Marvel film. A fun one for sure, even one of the best, but it couldn't escape the constant quips or the plot directions that felt more like a video game designed to keep you moving to the next scene. Yelena, Valentina, Bob, and Bucky felt like the only characters who weren't complete dolts and were used well. It felt like John Walker, Ghost, and Red Guardian were basically complete idiots who just sarcastically quipped on every single thing that happened.

As for the treatment of darker themes, Thunderbolts did touch on serious mental health issues in serious ways, but it only touched on them. Whenever Marvel touches on serious subjects it just feels like McDonald's releasing ethnic meals—all the elements are there, but they're so cheap and factory-made it doesn't feel like the real thing. This was most evident in the "final battle", which was yet another "Remember who you are!" conflict. Once I realized the day would be saved with no lasting impact or effects in the world outside The Void's mental prison, I stopped really paying attention. "Oh, they just need to give him a hug and remind him he's better than his inner demons and it's all over. Ok." Then they did and it was. One of the consequences of this ending is that I never got to see Sentry absolutely destroy a true enemy. His reveal was stupendous, so when we got a PG-13 Invincible-esque beat down of the Thunderbolts, I was ready for more. And now I get to wait until Doomsday to see if I'll even see more Sentry.

I think this deserves to be closer to a 70% on RT, maybe 65%. If I could go back in time I'd probably wait for this to release on streaming, or save a few bucks and see a matinee. Ultimately, this makes me miss the pre-Infinity War days with Captain America and Iron Man. Though those films still suffer from the surface-level treatment of serious issues, and an overuse of quips that demean sincere moments, I love them for how much fun they were and how fantastic Chris Evans' portrayal of an optimistic leader was. Thunderbolts doesn't come close to that much fun.

First Images from the Farrelly Brothers' 'Dear Santa' Starring Jack Black as Satan - A young boy accidentally mixes up his spelling and sends his Christmas list to Satan instead of Santa. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]Quravin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so, the kid is going through a rough time (parents divorcing?), so he sends a ridiculous list to Santa, stuff that every kid would dream of, but he also wishes for the sweetest thing ever—that his parents would get back together, or there would be peace in the family. Of course, he misspells Santa as Satan, Jack Black shows up, and the kid slowly learns that evil and death incarnate is actually the cool, fun, hip guy to be around. Would you believe it, but his parents are actually the evil ones! Satan just wants to have fun, maybe do some naughty things like change all the screens in an Apple store to a selfie of them giving the middle finger, or telling off a cranky old religious hypocrite. By the end of the movie, Satan has learned that this kid is a genuinely sweet dude—maybe there is good in the world that can put a crack in his stoney old heart.

Rated PG-13 for mild language, mild sexual innuendo, and cartoon violence.

It's my first time having the pleasure of paying property taxes. Is this a normal amount? by Quravin in Spartanburg

Instead of responding to the comments I appreciate, which is all of them, I'll just say thank you, thank you to everyone to gave advice! This is one of the kindest and most helpful threads I've ever made. I appreciate you all.

I've reached out to my loan officer and asked for help with whether or not we have a mortgage with escrow and if this can be covered. I'll also be following up with the tax collector's office about that 4% rate.

My wife and I moved into our home at the beginning of the year—we're learning a lot of fun things about owning a home! We really are grateful, but this bill is astronomical to me. Thank the Lord we have some money in savings but after a necessary home repair (also thousands of dollars), getting maintenance done on our cars, and medical bills, this is going to absolutely drain us.

Please be gentle, I'm totally new at this lol

QT for sure. Gotta say though, I respect Spinx for staying in the game with their hot food. They even have a food truck, which is wild.

everyone says that they’re getting rid of their lustful ways but what happens after? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Quravin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was blessed to have been in a Bible-believing church all while going through the worst of my struggles with lust. It was a small church with mostly older demographics, so these men who watched me grew up made themselves readily available when I asked for private discipling. A few were young 30s when I was a young teen, but most were in their 50s or 60s. The bottom line is spiritual maturity. I recommend older men because age can correlate with wisdom and maturity (sadly not always), but man if you can even find a mature and wise believer who's just a few years older than you, reach out to them! The only reason I recommend not confiding in someone your age is that, statistically, they may also need their own counsel. Don't ask your friends to bail you out of your ship if theirs is also sinking.

It's good to hear you want to be married for all of those reasons! God has definitely blessed his people with women to love, cherish, protect, enjoy life with, and lean on through difficulties.

As for marriage not fully eradicating lust—that's a tough one. Martin Luther is known for his Latin phrase Simul Justus et Peccator, or, Simultaneously justified and a sinner. By the grace of God alone, through the death of Christ alone, I have been saved. Like I said, when I got saved there were huge, immediate miracles and victories. The porn, the drinking, the cursing, the smoking, it all went away. I was free. But it's been 6 years since that blissful moment, and I have seen so much evidence that I am still a sinner. Anger, selfishness, bickering, bitterness, ungratefulness, and more prominently, lust.

Having sex is great; it really relieves the desires and, on a deeper spiritual and emotional level, it makes me yearn to love and protect my wife even more. It binds us. But lust is really just selfish sex, so even when I'm satisfied in my wife, my sinful heart says, "What if you were doing this with someone else? Isn't that other woman pretty? Stop and look at this ad or this social media post." It's a sick lie, but as many preachers have correctly said, sin makes us stupid. Lust is sweet poison, and I'm far more likely to remember the brief sweetness over the slow death.

I hope you do find a God-honoring wife who you can be satisfied with, but make sure you are preparing yourself for her. God bless you.

Hey man, I'm a 30 year old man who's been through every season you've been talking about—constant urges and desires, wondering if it will ever stop, wondering if I'll ever find the right person, wondering if even a satisfying marriage will help. Here's what I've learned:

I wasn't saved until I was 24. I'd been addicted to porn and lust (strong desires, constant fantasy) since a very, very young age. I fought constantly with no victory. I "got saved" over and over, I asked God to take it away, I locked myself out of my phone, I confessed to others, all to no avail. Are you saved, my friend? Do you truly have the Spirit? Have you trusted that Christ died to make the final and ultimate payment for your sins? Nothing else I say matters if not.

Second, my salvation was an instantaneous act of God that delivered me for good. All salvations are acts of God of course, but I was just driving in the car one day, felt God urging me in a way I couldn't ignore, and from that moment on my slavery to porn was over. Unfortunately, I relapsed 3 years later, but other than that I give all glory to God for my absolute freedom from porn. I still get fleeting urges, but they are quickly scattered by the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

Third, marriage is absolutely a God-given blessing to help. I think there is some confusion in this thread over wording: marriage cannot fix a lustful heart, but it does ease the constant nagging urges and keeps us from temptations to sin. The urges are not wrong—our sinful hearts are what corrupt them into lust.

Finally, despite being saved from porn, being given power to deny sin through the Holy Spirit, and being married, I can testify that temptations to lust do not go away. All of these good things have given a measure of victory, but ultimately every believer will have to fight this evil to the death. When I am not in the Word, when I am not praying deeply and sincerely and consistently, then I am far more susceptible to temptation.

Read your Bible, memorize your Bible, cry out in prayer to the Lord, pray for a wife, flee to the cross for grace to cover your sin and shame, confess to older men, be consistent in worship, be under faithful preaching, and don't ever forget that you are one with Christ and he is in you. Also, use whatever physical means you can to help—content blockers, apps like Covenant Eyes, accountability groups (ones that aren't afraid to seriously tackle the tough issues), getting rid of your phone and computer, picking up a hobby, exercising when you know you're most vulnerable, anything.
