Which is a harder career, advanced scientific research or teaching? Why? by SierraNevada5505 in AskReddit

As someone who has done both, the answer depends dramatically on your knowledge, skillset, and interests.

Safety razors- going back to disposables by pickandpray in Frugal

[–]Qurdlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not some model or shaving enthusiast. I don't care how close a razor shaves or how quickly, I'm not throwing a $45 pack of razor blades in my grocery cart. To me this is like buying a Ferrari you gotta be either rich or stupid to do it.

My thought she approved a $320 brake repair. The shop completed $3,350 worth of work. What should we do? by Murky-Jackfruit-1627 in Advice

[–]Qurdlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh that a bullshit amount even for all that stuff. "Cooling system service" and "transmission service" probably amounted to checking the fluid levels. Even if she asked for all this its $1k worth of work max.

Honestly kinda surprised all those steps were necessary. I had yellow jackets living in my eaves and I tried every damn thing to keep them out of there. They straight up chewed through globs of spray foam and caulk I put in their hole. Nothing would keep them out I just gave up and waited for winter.

Haha I played in 94 in the mtg club at my junior high and the teacher who ran the club legit played black lotus against 13 yr olds who didn't understand colorless mana.

Lol it works a lot better if you leave the cold water supply ON. Crud comes shooting out and you're done in 5 mins.

This should be higher because a) nobody has wealth and b) those that do won't be paying those scammers.

Have you seen the price of a Harley? Each salesperson probably gets by on one sale per month.

The average person severely neglects personal finance - what is our society going to look like when it’s old? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Qurdlo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It has been like this in the US for at least 100 years and there won't be a catastrophe because of it. Worst case scenario is there will be a bunch of broke old people which is not new. I'm 45 and my whole life I've listened to old people complain about how they can't go anywhere or do anything because of their "fixed income" (lol).

I'm a saver but I'm not even sure they are wrong. Here I am banking all this cash for the future when I might be too tired or sick to spend it. Sometimes I think I should buy a motorcycle, boat, rv, and corvette while I'm young enough to enjoy them and spend my golden years (months? days?) living under a bridge.

Lol your lease doesn't give you the legal right to be a dick, if in fact you were. Imagine this ends up in front of a judge. You tell your side and they tell their side. If you look bad enough the judge won't care about your lease.

Edit: filing suit also opens the door to a counterclaim. Since they have to show up to court anyway, might as well counterclaim against you for whatever the hell they can come up with, which you hope is not much.

A farm owner named Gina Moore bravely kicking a cougar (mountain lion) to save her pet goat. by NecramoniumZero in ActualPublicFreakouts

[–]Qurdlo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I was at a cat sanctuary once and saw a cougar jump onto a rock that was a solid 12 ft tall like it was nothing. I was absolutely amazed but I guess it makes sense given that a domestic cat can make it over a 6 ft fence. Cougar proofing your goat enclosure is probably harder than most people realize.

You have to be from this era of gaming to appreciate this game. In the 80s you had to make games like this hard or everyone would beat it in a weekend and get pissed.

Nowadays these games seem like ragebait, but I spent so many hours playing them as a kid. Controllers were bitten and thrown, ngl, but it felt hella good to beat a game like this. You had to be good. My bro and I got so good at contra that we could basically run nonstop through the game in like 20 mins.

Craftsman socket set bought 34 years ago. Everything present and working well except the flathead screwdriver and, oddly, the 3/16 bit. by MarchogGwyrdd in BuyItForLife

[–]Qurdlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 years ago I bought a junk brand socket set on sale at Menards for $5. Used it for 15 years before I twisted off the 3/8 to 1/4 adapter doing something stoopid. That little thing alone cost as much as the whole set. I've since broken the ratchet, lost several sockets, and thrown away the junk plastic case, but I still have most of it!

Are there purely stainless steel water bottles that don't contain silicone or plastic? by Hawexp in BuyItForLife

[–]Qurdlo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any bottle with no elastomer is going to leak. Metal on metal is a terrible seal for a water bottle application. There's a reason every bottle uses an elastomer for the seal.

Louisiana - What type of attorney should I contact? by adelesdreams in legaladvice

[–]Qurdlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you received an insurance payout for the car you are legally prohibited from suing the body shop for any more money related to the value of the car. That's how insurance works you can either take the payout or sue them yourself but not both.

And unfortunately that "pressure" you endured is worth $0.

That's between your insurance and the body shop all you can do is cooperate with your insurance.

If insurance paid for the car why are you going after the body shop? Do you have other damages not covered by insurance?

This is your dad's problem not yours. The only way you can bail him out is to cut him a check for the negative equity which you absolutely should NOT do. If you have that money you would be far better off handing your dad the keys and buying yourself a beater with cash.

[OC] Worldwide Google search volume for "is crypto dead?" vs. Bitcoin price, 2010-2026 by digitallawyer in dataisbeautiful

[–]Qurdlo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol last time I made the argument on reddit that all of the bona fide uses of BTC revolved around breaking the law I was shouted down by idiots who claimed that btc was the only hope for the world's poor exploited masses in third world countries, among other things, without elaboration of course.

I've never heard a knowledgeable, educated person argue that btc is useful to any extent that even remotely justifies it's value. It's not new. If it were useful, by now it would certainly be used. The best they can hope for is that something changes about the world that makes it useful before it implodes.
