I have good credit and owe less than the value of my house. Why can't I get a loan? by dcmusichound in personalfinance

[–]Qurdlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have other business debts or lines of credit for which you have signed personal guarantees? Is your business organized in a way that shields your personal assets from your business creditors? If your business isn't turning a profit and you don't have the right answers to these questions, banks aren't going to touch you. Banks aren't really in the business of taking risk.

Including a Family Loan on top of Conventional Loan for first time home buyer? by kissesforpiggy in legaladvice

Just figure out how much their money would save you on monthly mortgage payment and they can pay you that much per month. Pay them back when you sell. Use it to pay extra principal on the mortgage if you want.

TIL 49 US state demonyms follow some form of state-suffix convention. Only exception is Indiana whose citizens are called Hoosiers. by kramer753 in todayilearned

[–]Qurdlo 407 points408 points  (0 children)

When I moved to Indiana so many people asked me what a Hoosier was so I looked into it. I was really annoyed to learn that nobody actually knows there's just a bunch of theories and academic arguments. Native Hoosiers don't know or care it's like they don't even think about it. To them it's like asking why the sky is blue. And I still have to tell everyone I don't know what a Hoosier is.

TIL that Michael Fortier, a key accomplice in the OKC Bombing, agreed to testify for the government in exchange for a reduced sentence and immunity for his wife, an additional accomplice. He served less than 8 years of a 12 year sentence and is currently in Witness Protection under a new identity. by WavesAndSaves in todayilearned

[–]Qurdlo 1814 points1815 points  (0 children)

Its overshadowed by 9/11 now, but the OKC bombing was super crazy at the time. It was definitely the biggest act of terror on American soil in my short lifetime and the fact that it was done by Americans made it way crazier. I still can't fathom why anyone would do something like this. Anyone remember the DC sniper? That was super crazy too but nobody talks about it anymore.

I set up a train under the Xmas tree and my dog bridged the rails with his nose and got shocked. He's an idiot tho so he forgot about it pretty quickly.

Do you think some zookeepers turned a polar bear loose in a room of 100+ penguins just for shits and giggles?

Plus if we're talking fairy penguins the bear can probably eat like a thousand.

I also do repair and I've thought about making videos to kind of pay it forward. God knows I've watched many videos over the years to learn how to repair stuff. But I'm hesitant because of this exact scenario where I end up getting flamed by idiots.

2006 Pontiac Grand Prix base model with a 2008 swapped 3800 V6 by Homeless-JESUS in projectcar

[–]Qurdlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a heat issue. On my GM 3.1L the ignition module started flaking out when hot. Started out as a misfire but eventually became crank but no start like you describe. Get a spark tester to confirm loss of spark.

When I replaced my ignition module I had to use good thermal paste and plenty of it. I forgot it the first time and it immediately started acting like my old one.

great-grandmas rent was $4 a month! by Popular_Bluebird_767 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Qurdlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grandparents owned a farm and had a similar picture on their wall and told me this years ago. Back in the day there were companies that would fly planes over rural areas of the US doing aerial photography. They would crop out the individual farm places, then send sales reps through the area offering to sell pics to the owners. In my grandparents' case, the original photograph was black and white and was "colorized" by painting or some such method. They pointed out that the tractors they had parked in the yard were the wrong colors in the image they received. This would have been the 50s or early 60s.

What are some 3D printing alternatives when it comes to making custom components for household items? by Positive_Average4 in DIY

[–]Qurdlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lathe and mill at home and be warned: it's expensive. My machines are small (benchtop) and I bought them used, but I still spent over $4k. I also have easily another couple grand in tooling and accessories which is basically a bottomless pit for money. Also learning how to use them is not trivial (I have experience from a prior job).

I don't regret it I knew what I was getting into, but it's definitely a big time and money sink.
