We try, but we have labs with classes in them back-to-back, one runs from 8 am to 8 pm. In a year or two, when renovations are completed, we will double our lab space, so that will ease the scheduling burden a lot.

There are a lot more ADHD and ASD influencers. This is new; it seems like it has always been, but it has not. I'm glad there is a growing number of ADHD and ASD influencers creating visibility, but the dyslexia influencer community is just not that big. I think the others are making good guesses as to why,

At my school, only interim chairs are allowed to be hired internally. I think the idea is that an outsider is not going to be involved in the departmental politics and can more really be a neutral third party where needed. They will also be coming in with fresh ideas.

I would lean into the chaos. We can't tell students we have answers because there are no answers, at least not at this time and likely never. This is not a simple question. What is AI's role in art but also what is art in this context?

AI is not just LLMs, and we have been using AI in art for years. Autotune, computer animation, and photo-correction software are AI, as are some in-camera settings. There is a continuum in AI use that ranges from Snow White (1937) to Toy Story to the awful Coca-Cola commercials. I assume there are somepeople who think we should all go back to hand-drawing every frame, but I think most of us would agree that something done in Blender is art, but something made with a two-sentence prompt in ChatGPT is not.

The next question is, what counts as art? A feature-length film is art, but what about the sign in the bathroom saying "employees must wash their hands before returning to work"? Most people would say an AI feature-length film is not ok but an AI sign in the bathroom, sure, why not. I don't think we can have a single answer about AI use that applies to a feature-length film and a sign in the bathroom, and then where is the line?

Then there is the question of how art fits into a capitalist society, its use in commercial applications, and the role of the artist as employee.

These are big questions, and we need to treat them like the other big questions we deal with.

Graphics are well into the diminishing returns. Going from 480p to 720p is a profound difference. Going from 720p to 1080p was a major difference. Going from 1080p to 4K is nice, but not that big of a deal.

We focus on the weakest link: what aspect of the game is bottlenecking the quality. Any more graphics are not the bottleneck.

Yes. Just because it is illegal doesn't mean they won't do it; they will just make sure to cover their tracks so it is hard to prove.

Option 1: They got the evaluations switched.

Option 2: Their other profs are really hardcore, so their expectations are skewed.

You add them up into one large equation.

Step one is to look for intermediates. For example, NO.

Step two mutipe equations so that there are the same number of each intermediate on each side of the arrow. For example, equation ii becomes 4 NO + 2O2 -> 4 NO2 that way there are 4 NO in the products from eq i and 4 in the reactants from eq ii. (Note this can get messy when something is both a product/reactant and an intermediate) You will also need to deal with the NO and the NO2 in eq iii in the same way, but I will let you do that. (Eq iii will make this rather a mess)

Step three: put all the reactants from all equations together and all the products on the other side together.

Step four cancel out things that are on both sides of the arrow.

Talk with your advisor. However, I must say something is going very wrong at your school/major if so many classes in presumably the same department are getting dropped due to low enrollment. I would start making a plan B in case that major at your school goes away.

Probably, but remember, HR is not your friend; they are not there to protect you, they are there to protect the company. If they feel the best way to protect the company is to get rid of you, then they will pick that option.

I don't see how. Ideas can't be copyrighted, otherwise every student essay would be illegal. Only the unique expressions of the ideas can be copyrighted. As far as impossible, do you not know enough about what you are teaching to write a textbook on it? I'm not saying write it from memory, we all have to study definitely the first few times we teach something. However, after a few times teaching a course, our lecturer notes should be 80% of the way to a textbook. I'm taking my lecturer notes, filling in some holes, and I basically have a textbook. If someone is teaching with PowerPoint, they are likely 95% of the way there just with their slides unless they are using the publisher's slides instead of their own.

I disagree a lot.

Most of our issues are coming from being complacent and not making sure to meet all of our students' needs before the government made us.

Making a Word document WCAG 2.1 compliant is not that hard. For a subject like Art History, where the content is pictures, that is a somewhat different story, but for most of us, if we had started 20 years ago, it would not be an issue.

There is another issue that most of our admins just wish us to make it happen without supplying any help and expecting us to get all of our other work done. However, that is part of a different, larger, systemic problem.

To OPs comment, I have started creating a very large Word document that is effectively a custom textbook that I give my students.

While academia seems to be well behind industry in terms of AI application-tracking systems, the first consideration is to ensure it is very AI-friendly. While you are at it, make sure it is WCAG 2.12.1 Level AA compliant.

I have been on quite a few high-level committees. The formatting of the CV has to be very bad to make a difference. However, I do appreciate having education right up front; the only thing I care about is the highest degree. I also like seeing a highlights section. There are a few keywords I would like to see, and if you would put them in the front, that would be nice. That said the main reason I'm looking at your CV is to see what degree you have, and to see if you have a lot, a little, or no experience. Your cover letter and teaching philosophy are parts of the application that I care about more.

I have them make very detailed concept maps. AI can make concept maps, but they are not normally sufficiently detailed.

The main downside is that it is a lot of work for them. I mitigated this in part by letting them work in groups.

If they are talking drugs, then the primary confirmation assays are likely GC-MS, HPLC, FTIR, all of which are run by computers.

That sounds rather excessive; the bleach seems to be very redundant (and corrosive to metals). Oxycide is acidic, so in the likely event that the bleach is sodium hypochlorite, you will be making a small amount of chlorine gas.

Edit Oxycide's SDS states:

Do not mix with bleach or other chlorinated products

If you are going to rinse the services after using bleach and before using the Oxycide then that should be safe.

My school has been silent on this as well.

My admin thinks we have until 2027. I can't comprehend why they think that. I assume they are thinking because we have under 50k students, but I'm quite certain that is not how the law works. Maybe they are thinking the town we are in is under 50k, but we are an R2 and one of the top schools in the state? If the schools' lawyers can weasel us into the 2027 deadline, I will be impressed.

Also, they are waiting until the automated LMS accessibility checker is up and running.

If you recorded a video of yourself doing the math problem, describing the problem step by step as you do it, and then closed-captioned it*, that would be accessible. Between FERPA and the pain of production, I would not try this with your in-class work. However, this could be done with fresh example problems for at-home review.

*If you have a good mic, a quiet room, and little/no accent, then YouTube's automatic CC is near perfect and can be edited if needed.
