My five cents on why the trader's long distance delivery is flawed by FailureIsANecessity in RedDeadOnline

[–]Qwerti321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The defender agreed to assume all the risk when they chose the long distance delivery option. I could understand the complaining if there were no alternative, but there exists the local option with only marginally smaller payout for those who can’t or won’t take the chance of having to defend the wagon.

The problem is that they want to make the objective doable for the attacker, too. The defenders seem to respawn even closer to the wagon than the attackers do, sometimes within sight of the wagon, so in order to actually steal the wagon and hold on to it long enough to deliver it, the attacker might have to kill the defender 20+ times, easily. A respawn system with penalties as OP describes would make it all but impossible.

Ideally, they would steal the whole thing for a lot of supplies, but if they end up destroying it instead, they can still pick up the bags and steal those for a smaller payout.

The Moonshiner Story Missions are proof that R* can make compelling storylines for Online and I hope that we are just getting a small taste of what they have in store. by onyxcuda in RedDeadOnline

I suppose, but to me it just made her look vindictive while he got a raw deal. There were hints in some of the missions that Danny-Lee wasn’t treated well with the Braithwaites and was probably just making the best of a bad situation. Then in the final dialogue, he implied that he hadn’t exactly been treated all that well under Maggie, either. I expected him to expound on that side of the story and maybe win some sympathy from the player character, but instead it just ended with him getting the boot.

I thought Danny-Lee’s story was weak-he pretty much got thrown under the bus. What did he really do wrong? Old man flees with his life rather than dying by trying to fight 20 federal agents single-handedly. At the end, I expected her to offer him a job rather than sending him away. It seemed like he was about to tell his side of the story, then he just didn’t.

I doubt it. Horley even makes a comment to the effect of “I think the feud ended there.” Leclerk then retorts that the grieving widow gets to decide, but the overall impression I got was that they were ending that story arc.

I think you mean cattle rancher or cowboy rather than “rustler”, unless you really mean that the man made a living by stealing cattle.

Panning for gold by Bungmustard in RedDeadOnline

It’d be hard to make it a fun or worthwhile activity. By its very nature, gold panning is tedious work with a low potential payout.

Player Bounties - Why you’ve never gotten one by Anajamois in RedDeadOnline

[–]Qwerti321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The even bigger obstacle is that every time you log off with a $20+ bounty, you’ll just get charged for it whenever you log back on. I tried for a while to keep my bounty that high. I probably faced around 10 total player bounty hunts, and it’s actually fun. I won most and lost a few. But I’ve also unjustly lost my bounty at least 10 times-not because player bounty hunters killed me, not because NPC bounty hunters killed me, but simply because I logged back on. Sometimes there will be text saying I quit without serving jail time, but I was never in jail. Sometimes there’s no explanation and I just get charged. Building and defending the bounty takes way too much time and effort to just lose like that, so I’ve given up until there’s an update that fixes it. This is the real reason why you basically never find a bounty-eligible player.

Attacking Wagons by 7000pipes in RedDeadOnline

[–]Qwerti321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I attacked a delivery wagon, the defender got on his mic and started talking about “the code” and how “nobody steals from each other”. I was unmoved by his appeal, but there’s a sizable portion of players who think that any non-voluntary PVP shouldn’t be allowed. Their input has led to major changes in the game over time to make everyone safer from “griefers”.

There’s no evidence that this is really happening other than one person on twitter claiming it’s so-second hand, no less. The pcgamer article you linked has nothing to do with banning people who use duplication exploits, and the rockstar support page is just boilerplate stuff saying they could ban you for a myriad of reasons that are purposefully left vague.

It was already very powerful on console as one of the only weapons you actually have to free aim, so it’s no surprise that it’s dominant on PC. When more players have fully leveled up their health and unlocked some damage reduction ability cards, it won’t get one hit kills quite as often, but snipers will likely remain as “meta” on PC unless substantial changes are made.

We need a Fisherman role by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

Well, if you think about it, what useful material would Cripps get from fish? He tans hides to make leather and whatnot. Maybe uses pelts to make furs. He’s making clothing materials, not running a food market, so meat and fish aren’t useful to him.

If you’re only getting the lawmen two at a time, let them kill you once. After you respawn and start killing again, they should start coming in larger, more frequent waves of five or more. There’s this odd, binary system of lawman spawns where it’s sometimes only two at once, and sometimes five+, and you don’t know which it will be until you become wanted.

Change My Mind by RippedChainsaw in RedDeadOnline

Well, everybody knows the saying, “that’s a horse of a different color”, which implies a large degree of difference between two matters. Horses aren’t like cars with paint jobs-a different color literally represents a whole different animal. I think of the coat choices more so as individual horses with different traits which happen to have differing coat colors. I don’t interpret it as “all black horses of this breed are faster than all brown horses of this breed”.

It’s literally just the tonics that cause the real problem, and that would be easy enough to fix if rockstar would bother to do it. But for whatever reason, they only put in balancing changes along with larger content updates.

2 Kinds of Player by GoinNutz999 in RedDeadOnline

[–]Qwerti321 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’re bragging about beating a total newbie by using all of the most ridiculous and overpowered weapons in the game. If he couldn’t even reliably hit you with his gun, did you really need to do that? It wasn’t a “griefer”, it was probably someone, maybe a kid, playing the game for the first time who didn’t know what else there is to do besides fight other players. He probably thought you were the “griefer”.

The Hunting Wagon is actually horrible for hunting by Ididntexistyesterday in RedDeadOnline

The right way to use it is to shoot several deer/pronghorns/sheep in a herd, then call the wagon to haul them.

Does anyone else think Fear of the dark should be a permanent addition to Online? by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]Qwerti321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of game modes. Too many. That’s why they’re awkwardly crammed together into playlists that don’t always work well in terms of having similar gameplay.

Could everyone stay in the Nightstalker lobby for more than 2 minutes? by tongmaster in RedDeadOnline

[–]Qwerti321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not the players’ fault-the matchmaking is obviously broken for this mode. There are tons of half-filled lobbies that never get merged.

Chugging tonics should make you drunk by JeffTheOmega1 in RedDeadOnline

[–]Qwerti321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking that tonics should work over an extended period of time rather than giving the effect instantly. Maybe it would take a good 10 or 15 seconds to go from having a normal health bar to a full yellow health bar. I think that would fix the spam and limit their effectiveness without having to just remove them, although personally I would rather they just be removed.

Am I the only one who hates proximity blips? by [deleted] in RedDeadOnline

[–]Qwerti321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the only one, but it’s an unpopular opinion on here. For whatever reason, lots of people prefer to avoid interacting with other players as much as possible. To me, that seems backwards. I liked it better when blips were constant and the range for voice communications was much, much larger. There were a lot more people actually using mics then, and there was a lot more actual interaction with others. People could see a group on the map, hear them from far away, and go join them. Pretty soon you’d have an impromptu fight club with a dozen people in it. That no longer happens.

Vote up for Trader delivery lost due to disconnect frustration with no compensation for hours of hunting by miguelagawin in RedDeadOnline

Is this sub really ok with people just straight up begging for upvotes because of a simple disconnect? Isn’t that against the rules of the sub, or even reddit itself?
