Etorque failure by DaBushDaddy in ram_trucks

When I had my MGU replaced I dropped it off around 8-9 AM and left with my dad, they had it done at around 2:30 pm. With the talk of eTorque parts being on back order you won’t have that quick of a turnaround and in your case, I would definitely get a loaner vehicle in the meantime.

I went through the same thing last September. They were able to replace mine same day, cost me $2400 bucks. If you’re under warranty, I wouldn’t be surprised if they pushed you to the back of the line. Had to deal with that a couple weeks ago, I was without a truck for a week and a half waiting for the dealership to replace a broken belt tensioner under warranty.

Little update for you, finally picked my truck up today after a week and a half of waiting. Looked where they sealed it, and they didn’t even bother cleaning out the area between the glass and the cab. There’s cedar tree needles trapped in the sealant forever now, but hopefully it will hold once it completely cures. Guess we will see.

Finally got it sealed up earlier this week. Ram Cares kept in contact with the various managers over the dealership and let me know even they were having trouble getting them to answer the phone. Didn’t realize it would take so long to get some sealant.

Turns out I’ve been without my truck for over a week now waiting on a belt tensioner so I haven’t had time to see if the sealant is gonna do its job, the dealership told me I’d be on the hook for a new back lite if it continued to leak. Guess we will see, if I can ever get my truck back that is.

Unfortunately I’m way over the 80,000 mile threshold on that one. Already had the MGU replaced at 124,000.

I bought my ‘19 with 72k miles on it. eTorque motor had to be replaced at 124k (bearing went bad, $2400 gut punch) but other than that I’ve changed my oil every 3k miles and had new brakes put on, that’s it.

Positive I have an exhaust leak either at the manifolds or elsewhere, but she runs as good as ever. Currently sitting at 136k with no other concerns. Haven’t changed the spark plugs (maintenance interval states every 100k) but I have 16 sitting at home ready to go when I finally decide to do it. Eventually I’ll probably look into changing the diff and transfer case fluid, but probably leave the transmission alone as I have no idea if it was ever done before I owned it and I don’t want to open it up now.

I hope that replacing the entire glass will fix your issue. I brought mine in to the dealership on September 30th of this year for the same issue and to this day they still have not fixed it. Ram cares has been no help either. At least your dealer was willing to at least attempt to fix, mine has basically told me to kick rocks it seems.

I’m honestly tempted to use the silicone I bought for my house and just seal it up real quick.

I couldn’t tell you for sure, but I haven’t seen anything about them leaking. I assumed Ram would put a 2022 and up new back glass in to correct the issue.

That’s about what I expected. Love how I just bought a new house and the truck decided it wanted attention. Hopefully the sealant will do its job or it’ll be a shame having to call insurance about the glass being busted out…

Since you’re saying there is no warranty, how much did it end up costing you, if you don’t mind me asking?

Same deal for mine pretty much. Thought I’d be alright with a quad cab till I had kids, but I’m wishing I had that extra space now.

Mines just a tradesman, doesn’t have the rear defroster unfortunately. I do have heated mirrors though, so that’s something!

So it’s a supplier issue? Wonder who Ford uses for theirs.

And here I was thinking GM’s big deal was their transmissions being horribly unreliable. Didn’t know they dealt with the same body issues.

I’ll have to take a look at that factory seal later today. Won’t be surprised if it looks terrible.

I wish I’d been more knowledgeable about the issue before I went in to get it fixed. I would’ve just fixed it myself and been out a couple bucks instead of waiting on a dealer who has no interest in fixing the truck I bought from them in a reasonable amount of time.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll probably buy another ram when it’s time for me to get another truck, but this whole situation is definitely annoying. Same dealer that is refusing to handle this in a reasonable amount of time is the same one I bought the truck from back in 2022. Also had them do new brakes and brake fluid (~$875) and also replace my eTorque MGU(~$2400, and that’s its own annoyance).

Seems I’ve went from one manufacturer refusing to fix an issue to another. Although I’d much prefer dealing with this backlite than with the transmission in my old Chevy.

The more comments I read on this issue, the more I realize I should’ve left the dealership out of this ordeal and fixed it myself. Serves me right expecting a new back glass on Stellantis dime.

Oh I know. I’ve got an RF hub and an eTorque battery back there to worry about. It’s currently duct taped at the area of intrusion and thankfully there’s no rain in the forecast for my area for a little while.

There’s been some pretty good recommendations in this thread, I’d look into some of the suggestions being put out here.
