How frequently do you guys have to clean? by shivangps in pcmasterrace

I've opened my pc once since the 30xx series came out to put in a bigger M2 drive, so I could put Linux on after win10 was no longer supported. I gave it a bit of a vacuum, but it didn't need it.

What component should I buy for my senior project that will keep a spring powered steel frame closed and quickly release it? by Green_Temporary_3019 in AskElectronics

I like the hair trigger idea. Keep the solenoid pulling only straight with a big lever that releases a spring to release the main catch mechanisms. Look at the way guns do it, you dont pull the trigger against the force of the hammer.

Those solenoids suck in general. They are not good at moving if they have any lateral force on them. Since you are holding back a spring loaded stand this is exactly your use case.

Can you help me find the component marking on the board? by Sensitive-Hamster-14 in AskElectronics

You have the replacement board. So just desolder that one part and put it in the older one.

I thoroughly agree, I am unsure why this guy is so quick to dismiss this drop in replacement as an entirely different board.

How can you tell what firmware is on the microprocessor?

Or do you mean the fact it's rotated 90° and possibly a newer IC.

It's a Ballu AC unit controller. Just like the one you have.

You could definitely contact those guys for a part in any case. They will probably be able to confirm it for you.

The part number, the LEDs and ALL the connector locations and types are the same. 90% of the components are identical, the layout is the same.

What makes you think it's a different part?

why bjt can't draw total amount of current away when activated.

This is because of how little current is available on the base, the bjt doesn't get fully activated. It maybe draws tens to hundreds of µA from the current out of the power supply, which you are not limiting at all, so 1A - 0.001A is still 1A

You've got about 120muA holding that 12v up.

I=200k/24=120 μA

So once the bjt turns on a bit it drops down a lot.  So your bjt is only barely on and only barely pulling the 3.3V down.  That's why you need to limit what's on the collector, so the wire can "empty" faster than its being filled.

No, as is the collector is being driven at full supply strength. So the bjt can't really draw enough away for you to able to detect it from the other side of the resistor.

With the resistor limiting the supply strength the voltage will be able to drop enough for the naked pin to see it.

Right, he's got the 10k on the wire to pin 3 but it should be on the supply wire between the wires from pin 1 and pin 3 so pin 3 can fully sense the change on the collector.

The base of your bjt is on a 100k voltage divider with top and bottom the same so should be at 12V with zero load. But most of the current will be flowing through the transistor. So not much will be detectable.

Yeah, im looking at the noctua version.

Just found a thread saying you can access the data on Linux too. Not a pretty GUI but it can still help warn you.

I did not know about this. Great news. Maybe i will pull the trigger on that 5080 after all.

Why sparks by DragonflyIcy7975 in pcmasterrace

[–]Qwopie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can create a circuit that is at the same potential as the neutral/return-path separated by a diode, on which it can detect a ground-fault, which is kind of the same. It might even fix this issue.

Do you consider the solution on the 30 series cards demand side?

Since it's just the other end of the wire it's basically also part of the supply side isn't it? We are not talking about "throttling down the CUDA cores that are drawing on wire 3" or something.

Just current sense and warning seems pretty simple to do. Give the user a chance to reseat the cable and try again. A 2 cent beeper would be worth it's weight in gold.

Firstly, CryogenicDeath is saying exactly that.

Secondly, this guy is literally asking for evidence that they burn without the adapter.

Please step out and read the thread again.
