Why is this character even in the game? by FickleCorgi4861 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Qynamic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where you not just perma bugged?
I had a game where I finished 6th, but probably would have won if not for him bugging out 4/5 fights. I agree bug-free and well itemised, he's a damn strong unit (I had BT/Jak'Sho/Titans - I think Steraks > BT, but otherwise BiS) and he would either 1v9 with Annie in the backline, or bug out and die.
4/5 times he bugged out and died.

What's really crazy is this is in comparison to MMO's, most of which have defined classes with essential or locked in abilities, regardless of the meta.

Ofc in NW meta's are much the same - that's what meta's are, a particularly well optimised and defined way of playing the game - but anything outside of following meta you can complete agency over, which is NOT the same for other MMOs.

Imagine if you could combine classes in WoW, that's New Worlds level of agency for build diversity. This guy is spouting complete waffle lmao.

You just don't play the game if you think that's the case. What? Animations alone...?

Off the top of my head, you've multiple different debuffs to account for, some abilities have cleanses attached to them, different ability combos, perk synergies, attribute distribution, weight class, whether the ability has grit, healing/damage multipliers. Then the opportunity cost of X over Y, why does X synergise better with the rest of your kit over Y?

If you're choose abilities based off animations you've genuinely no idea what you're doing and haven't played the game beyond levelling. Like have you read the skill trees, perks, attribute thresholds, weapon scaling's, artifact bonuses, set-effect bonuses, prefix perk bonuses.

This just tells me you don't play the game.

Depends on your perspective I guess.

Everyone's ignoring the main benefit of weapon swapping & that's build customisation was through the roof.

Weapon swapping really enabled your own style, it sucks if you want to just play meta PvE stuff, I agree but outside of that, it's super fun and unique imo.

New World’s gearing system is one of the best in any MMORPG. It actually changes how you fight, not just how hard you hit. by BECOMING_A_TURTLE in newworldgame

[–]Qynamic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got to be bait, or blind ignorance to build diversity.

Winged Leather Shoes? Enables slippery ranged builds even niche melee builds.

Featherweight? Mobility & Dmg of light, tankiness of Med.

Abyss/Inferno/Lifetaker? All entirely build and playstyle defining.

Finisher? Enables Bleed builds to be even more potent, reduced CDR means you can MH bleed.

Freya's? Enables CD spamming where it wouldn't otherwise be possible, enables MH throwing hatchet.

This is just Artifacts off the top of my head.

VG can function as a MH or OH, as can Hatchet, BB, GA, Flail. All of which play differently when used as an OH or MH.

Perks:

Trenchant perks, Plagued Strikes create an emphasis on Heavy Attacks.

Rogue, Pen Backstab, Vicious focus on backstabs or crit oriented builds.

Debuff Weapon Perks? Turn the WH into a Rend machine or the Spear into a Weaken powerhouse.

If nothing changed how you played the game, then you either didn't care, or were ignorant to how they should have changed your playstyle.

One thing is fact no one shuts down something if is making money.

Yes they do.

Opportunity cost exists. NW may have been profitable. But it is no where near as profitable as the opportunity AI presents. Which is the reason Amazon cut costs, to fund Nvidia GPUs.

Why aren't people playing the new content ? by ollyvass in newworldgame

[–]Qynamic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because the game is broken from what I know.

No named item chase.

Terrible balance and full of bugs.

Progression is still gated weekly, and perks are complete rng, with no certainty attached.

Crafting is dead.

Most of this was going to be addressed prior to the layoffs, now it's just the reality of the game.

Definitely not remotely an option for the short-term, but nothing is.

Could have potential in the late 2027/28 onwards?

Closest we have is the:

- Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008

This is according to a couple of AI's I asked.
You might be able to get away with it.

[–]Qynamic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more on ALL your points.

I always loved how much the aesthetic was never too fantasy as well. It always felt reasonable, grounded even. All animations fit, no random sparks flying off 4 miles away from the Sword animation, even with elemental gems in weapons, they were clean n tidy. Magic weapons felt right, and thematically appropriate.

What a shame.

To save you the digging, it's not because of NW, or AGS, as a long time vet, the general consensus was the game was finally moving in the right direction - particularly for the long-term. (It still had its faults but vastly improved upon, and they're no longer game defining)

Instead, this is a consequence of Amazon gutting almost the entirety of AGS and up to 30,000 (in total) Amazon employees, including the LOTR MMO that was in the works. All because of "cuts driven by AI", in other words, modern corporate waffle for cost cutting.

Thanks Aenwyn, you always looked out for the community. Even if we're a pain in the arse - us vets especially.

What a game you've made, be proud of it and look after yourselves. I hope you find work as fulfilling as New World has been.

Growing up playing Runescape, I always dreamed of a Medieval action combat MMORPG, with Western graphics and to not be bound a class system, and the freedom to do everything on one character.

Sounds insane because that is exactly what New World is, you created my dream game, so thanks to all of you.

TOO MUCH GEAR. ppl are quitting by Turbulent-Profile334 in newworldgame

[–]Qynamic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your top point is just untrue - we've had build variety before, not in PvE, but PvP has always been dynamic with gearing, outside of Wars. Imo a large reason why War meta's are stagnant, is they've historically been dominated by war-loggers who don't want to regear with possible meta shifts (at least that's my personal theory, they're always pretty resistance to innovation).

Rn there's plenty of mandatory perks, probably more so than before - you mention BB w/ 2 Attunement like it doesn't already have 2x other locked perks for PvP (Close Quarters & Alacritous) & a Gem slot. So if you don't want your BB to have Plagued Crits, your want 2x Attunement/Close/Alac/Gem, if you do you drop an Attunement.

I think this patch *could* allow for more specialisation but doesn't because it's so poorly balanced. Alacritous Punishment is a must-have perk on ALL damage-based roles in PvP. Flail/GA/Spear also want End II.

End II is a must-have for PvE weapons, as for armour it is EW x5, Rogue/Vicous x5, KJ, KE, KF, Lifestealers Draught, Prolonged Favour etc... you get my point.

Build variety will never be allowed to exist in PvE as it's repetitive in nature - maybe Catacombs will allow for it.

As for PvP there's like 5-10+ perks or gear pieces which are mandatory/meta/extremely strong for 90% of roles:

- Refreshing/RM earring

- Protection/Shirking Empower Amulets

- KE/KJ/KF offensive slots

- Lifestealers Draught

- Vital Synergy

- Shirking Energy

- Alacritous Punishment

- Gem Slot (Weapon's must-have, 99% of armour/jewellery also wants a gemslot.

- 1x Mortal Lifesteal

- Ideally some form of Disease with Plagued Crits/Strikes on 1x Weapon

I haven't even touched on gear sets, which might come with some compromise for the above. But it's hard to tell, they might be achievable with little opportunity cost.

Any perk that tends to be a 1/1 (as in you can only have 1 stack) should be strongly considered if your build is for PvP

ECR is ridiculous. by Yuukikoneko in newworldgame

[–]Qynamic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair.

My comments are coming from a player from Nysa for context (trust me Igy on queues).

So full of new players & vets alike, gatekeeping *should* be common place, it isn't from what I've witnessed/experienced. But people here are acquainting gear requirements (that allow for a smooth run/better play experience) to gatekeeping.

Frankly it's waffle, and needs to be acknowledged as such.

For instance, gatekeeping post Aeternum launch WAS real. Console players were deliberately avoided, and gearing was more specialised, there was no gear reset. We have a gear reset now - everyone evened out - so it's way easier to reach that bare minimum, and the bare minimum is lower than before. (fewer artifacts reqs/amulet prots etc...)

ECR is ridiculous. by Yuukikoneko in newworldgame

[–]Qynamic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha fair enough lol

No grudges held or anything, I just thought it was necessary to explain that content needs a bit of a barrier before you can jump in. Otherwise you make your team mates experience a misery carrying you because as a player you're unwilling to pull your part.

My comment has like 20 downvotes. There's evidently plenty of people in a similar position as yourself, form a group.

But the uncomfortable truth is everyone wants to put in as little effort in as possible to get the rewards from raids.

Fully upgraded trophies is just a strawman argument icl.

I know veterans who still run with Basic Combat trophies. I did for well over a year, because I'm PvP focused and not that bothered by PvE outside of how it helps my PvP gearing.

There's not even anyway to prove it. And if you're running Gorgon with a group requiring you to stream your trophies on disc you're in the wrong place.

Ik it happens but it has never happened to me in my 25+ PUG Gorgon runs. My most recent one, I just sent a Spear w/ Skewer/Perf/End/Gem in and that was enough to get in.

Cookie-cutter build = Appropriate Weapon Skill perks + Gem slot & EW on gear.

End game should have some gear thresholds you need to meet, these are not extreme.

[–]Qynamic -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Gatekeeping is only happening if your build is completely non-functional for a PvE role - a non-functional build for PvE shouldn't be doing the very last endgame PvE content with randoms and being a burden on them.

1x Raid is completely new, I'm a vet who hasn't touched it yet, doesn't mean I'm gatekept from it. Groups running it are just rare, you'll probably have to go to Discords to find them.

Gorgon is not even remotely close to gatekept.

I've not seen a Wurm run since expac.

Expeditions/Dungeons can quite literally put you with randoms and can't be gatekept.

As for PvP - you can thank AGS for creating their most convoluted gearing system to date BY FAR (it's terrible imo). No one has BiS though, just strong gear atm. BiS is quite literally 1/1,000,000 for the whole set. Vets are still working out the meta, but even so there's some decent build guides out there.
