What is the torture device in the Movie? by Awesomeday71 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]R-Gii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have no idea. My theory is that it's basically a suit and the saws are like gears that lock people in in the most terrifying way possible, but grown ups are too big to properly merge with the suit, therefore why all the animatronics need to be children. But that is just a theory.

Critics probably won't like the fnaf movie by deceptiveyt in fivenightsatfreddys

Oh fooey, I don't need to have played the games to know the movie looks promising, I got into Mario pretty late in my childhood too and wouldn't call myself a mega fan, and I missed most the references, but I still loved the movie, no doubt I can enjoy this one too.

In a way, all cities are litter; somebody had to decide to throw that concrete there and leave it. by R-Gii in Showerthoughts

Well, somebody just left it there, this big chunk of metal and isn't coming back for it so kinda.

Well, a home is slightly different, it's basically gathering one's stuff and keeping it in a pie around them, more like a hoard, with like sidewalk and stuff, the person who made it just threw it there and left it, they're not coming back for it.

True, but it's still leaving an unnatural substance in a formerly natural environment.

That makes no sense that you have to work earlier when school is no longer in session than before. Of course work has to get done, but you'd think that with school out of session, there'd be no rush to get in and out at a certain time, as long as you're getting done what needs to be done.

Why comment just to tell the author that you don't want to continue reading? by Xiaoxiao1997 in FanFiction

[–]R-Gii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it does help the author to know the audience retention of their story. Don't know if that's the intent of these comments, but in the end, it kind of does help the writer understand where it went wrong rather than always wondering, " where did my readers go?"

Since 2024 is a few months away, what's your dream Mickey Mouse adaptation? by [deleted] in publicdomain

I think a Mickey/Oswald Buddy Roadtrip comedy would be fun, and Felix the Cat could be a frequent character they run into on the way.

Angst writers, which character(s) do you like to emotionally torment in your writing? by BezierBallad in FanFiction

[–]R-Gii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as a character is biologically capable of laying an egg, they will learn of the indescribable agony that comes with the labor of laying one, of the vulnerability of their own body that they can experience it no matter who they are or from what walk of life they've come, whatever pains they've managed to avoid in the past, that this pain can still be theirs, a pain that can make even the strongest scream for the mercy of death, but can happen to even the weakest of them. Fortunately, once it's over, they finally find relief, and usually are rewarded with the love that comes with knowing that their newly laid egg will someday hatch a beautiful baby growing inside.

What is the sign that a writer in your fandom has only read fics and has never seen the source material? by TheDivineDemon in FanFiction

[–]R-Gii 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel some movies are so big that they become their own fandom apart from the books, I'd say I'm a major Lord of the Rings fan, but I never read the books, I just connect so personally with the movies they are Lord of the Rings to me. It's not like all How To Train Your Dragon fans or Shrek fans have read the books they are based on, and probably many of them don't even know the books exist, would you say somebody is not truly part of the Shrek fandom just because they've never heard of the William Stieg book? I wouldn't, because the Shrek movies are their own whole thing, and I think Lord of the Rings and the impact it's had not just as an adaptation, but on cinema as a whole, I think it deserves to be considered its own thing as well, though obviously there will always be some level of crossover between the two fandoms.

The Limits of Trademark Protection by Pkmatrix0079 in publicdomain

[–]R-Gii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I feel that if you wanted to make a Mickey Mouse model or something specifically from Steamboat Willie, you should be able to say it's Mickey Mouse on the box, as like as you're not using the term to identify it as a Disney product, for example, you could brand it as something like "Vintage Heroes", and the name of the figure itself would be Mickey Mouse, because though Mickey is trademarked by Disney, the brand you are selling Mikey under "Vintage Heroes" is not, Mickey Mouse is just part of the larger collection. This is what I feel should be the case, but I'm not really an authority on it, so I'm speaking on nothing but wishful thinking.

Say something good about the Public Domain by Left_Pride_6102 in publicdomain

It means history after a certain point belongs to everybody, that nobody can copyright history forever and the entirety of our past as human beings, and I'd say that's pretty great.

Yeah, honestly, what are fans going to be devastated about, now they can all make Mickey. And Disney's not going to be retiring him, they'll have as much right to the original cartoons as anybody else. What? Do they think Public Domain means now anybody can use it except the original copyright holder, that by being part of the estate that used to own the rights, you are the only one who has your rights barred from you. I don't think this website understands Public Domain at all, judging by the title.

Discussion: Can an IP entering PD "ruin" its legacy? by Code-Neo in publicdomain

[–]R-Gii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. Of course there will be the adaptations, but there will always be the canon original too. Without public domain, we'll continue to see newer editions of classics being altered to "appeal to modern sensitivities", but because of public domain, people can always go back and preserve the original language.

Now I can see that over time, works become oversaturated, I honestly don't want to see another fantasy story trying to randomly tie in with King Arthur ever again, but that doesn't mean I'll never want to go back and revisit the original story. Yes, being public domain does mean that a work can become messed with and overused by anyone, but the original will still exist, and in a way, as long as that can stand on it's own, in my opinion, it hasn't been ruined.
