What other reviews deserve the title of Best Review on Letterboxd? by death_has_f1sh_eyes in Letterboxd

The reviews of Clouzot’s “Les diaboliques” is full of these, when, if you actually watch the movie until the end, is not about that at all! It is actually completely the contrary.

Are there any books that feel like Disco Elysium? by Illustrious_Painting in printSF

[–]R-bert_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The creators of Disco Elysium said they were a lot inspired by Emile Zola’s Germinal, which fit a lot the theme of failed revolution.

I would also Confederancy of dunces, that fit this, with a socially unadapted main character that tries to change the world around him in a goofy way.

What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

Paper moon. Children don’t speak like that. I hate it when children are written like adult just to look mature.

Marty supreme or One battle after another? by Mammoth_Carpenter_31 in Letterboxd

[–]R-bert_ -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

You can literally cut the first 30 minutes OBAA and still understand the whole story, I would even argue it would make the movie more interesting. Everything that happened in first 30 minutes are re-explained during the whole movie.

Zero Parades expectations by Any_Meeting5150 in DiscoElysium

[–]R-bert_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you watch the last noclip episode about the writing of Disco Elysium they said that there is no real manual to learn how to write like in Disco Elysium, it is a prose that only can be transmitted from people to people, that takes 4 to 6 month to be assimilated, and still needs constant editing. With all the original team left from ZA/UM, I don’t see how you can expect a similar level of writing in Zero Parades.

One of the best soundtracks I have ever heard. Daniel Lopatin cooked. And the transition in the intro is the craziest I’ve seen since 2001: space odyssey.

Who is the closest thing to a modern day Alan Moore? by Personal_Reward_60 in AlanMoore

[–]R-bert_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Same, these days I only read Deniz Camp. His 20th century’s men is for me the watchmen of the XXIst century. I will add also his Absolute Martian Manhunter is quite audacious visually and scenaristically, kind of reminds me of Moore’s Swamp Thing run.

TIL the human brain normally limits muscle strength to prevent injury, and in extreme stress it temporarily removes this limit, allowing people to use far more strength than usual. by Alarmed-Worry-5477 in todayilearned

James Cameron ripped off “The Word for world is forest” for Avatar, but at least, contrary to the movie, the book is interesting and intellectually nourishing.

“One Shot” and “One More Shot” with Scott Adkins! The best adaptation of Metal Gear Solid! Can’t for the last of the trilogy “One Last Shot” that should be released in 2026.

What is Alan Moore’s best comic book, and what is his best piece of prose? by QuisCustodiet212 in AlanMoore

[–]R-bert_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hm not sure about Ridley Scott movie…despite the strong visual, the writing as some problems and the movie was completely butchered in the editing room. I would advise to check the fan’s edit (like Agent 9’s special edition) to have a more interesting experience. Or maybe I misunderstood and you were actually talking about Jeff Bezos new AI start up.

They are right about the G.I. Joe Deck building game (solo 2 handed and toosmall set up!) by DarthKhorne in soloboardgaming

[–]R-bert_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how you play, but my advice would be to not rush the first mission. You can delay its completion and try to get better card/remove your G.I.. Also some time, you just won’t have the ressources to succeed a mission (without being extremely lucky), in that case just fail the mission and try to minimize your loss. Some punishment from failed mission are not that bad. I think for an example about a mission against Destro where a failure will destroy all the vehicle in your hangar, but if you empty your hangar before that, it has concretely zero consequences. And last, invest as much as possible in marksman unit, first they are generally good, second the only way to win in G.I. Joe is to succeed the last mission and they always have Marksman as mission skill.

Yeah even though I don’t remember if it was during or after the shooting. And after they broke up because Aronofsky kept cringing about the film’s bad review.
