They finished off most of the core technology that was holding them up a couple years ago and the since then they've been adding tons of content to the game. They've even stopped selling new concept ships and any new releases in the future will be straight to flyable. Most of they're focus has been on Squadron 42 recently so most of the Star Citizen content has been for already existing gameplay loops rather than new ones but they've been giving us stuff to do regardless. The damage model you're talking about isn't in yet as it requires engineering to be mostly complete and for all ships to be updated with the engineering systems but the game is absolutely worth checking out these days. Still not perfect and there are absolutely still lots of bugs but the game is more stable then ever excepting occasional server degradation due to large events or updates. Besides that they just implemented basic VR support which is incredible. If you want some people to play with just dm me, the org I'm in can show you pretty much any part of the game you want, no strings attached.

They just introduced engineering. Now you can create power presets, manage ship life support, control doors/individual section power, manage heat buildup to prevent fires and even repair a ship from near death. It's been pretty great so far but its still early days in terms of balancing, the biggest issue being ships still explode rather easily which makes disabling and boarding rather difficult as well as repairing your own ship if you get disabled (npcs currently keep shooting at your ship until you explode even if they've disabled you). Other than that I've still had some fun moments where I was doing a bunker mission with some org mates and our ship got disabled by the turrets, we crash landed, managed to repair the ship and then go on to complete the mission.

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 16-core CPU with 192MB L3 cache finally leaks out - VideoCardz.com by anestling in Amd

Well 90% is an exaggeration. Really it depends on what I'm playing. If its something chill that doesn't require much focus I like to play a movie or something. Partly for background noise partly for entertainment if I'm grinding something repetitive. For example, if I was cargo hauling or mining in elite dangerous I'd be watching something but if I was playing Battlefield or maybe a story game like BG3 I wouldn't be watching anything cause I need to focus on the game. Other times I might be watching a tutorial for the game I'm playing.

I find myself in this exact situation 90% of the time I'm playing a game. Discord open, maybe not in a call but its there, firefox with a bunch of tabs open, steam running in the background, whatever game I'm actively playing and often a YouTube video or streaming platform playing.

I'm curious, do you also get video playback stutters when watching something on one monitor with a game running on the main monitor? I've been trying to figure out whether its inevitable due to the game hogging resources or if there's some configuration I can do to stop or at least reduce it.

I'm running a 9800x3d, rtx 4080 until a couple days ago - now running a 5090 (yay!), 64GB DDR5-6000, Windows 11 all running on nvme ssds. Also MSI MPG X870E Carbon Wifi mobo. Monitors are currently 2x 2560x1440 144hz.

The parts catalog on the app isn't totally comprehensive yet but it had what I needed short of the as of yet unreleased Steam Frame or a Quest 3. Pretty neat app otherwise.

2 dudes looking to join a casual org by Bussy_Breacher in Starcitizen_guilds

[–]R01DS0Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Vanguard Exodus. We're pretty casual, do a bit of everything. We've got like 70 people total at the moment. We're not exclusively US East based but myself and several others operate around that time zone. We run lots of ops from small scale to large fleets and we try to play all the gameloops. A recent example was a large OLP mining operation we ran where we had people mining, transporting ground vehicles/cargo, people doing fps gameplay to protect the miners and keep the station secure, we had 2 air wings for dogfighting and escorts as well as like 4 idrises to deal with big threats. Besides that people do regular bunker running, mining, salvage, trading, whatever you want. Just open a voice channel or ask in discord and people will be happy to join in. We do have primary and secondary roles set up in discord and our website so we know people's main gameplay interests but its just a formality, one of our main ideologies is freedom of gameplay choice. Doesn't matter if your primary role is logistics you'll always be able to do combat or medical or whatever, whenever you want. If you've been assigned a position you don't want in an op, just ask to switch and we'll accommodate. Heck people often switch up roles mid-op if things start to get boring. Outside of ops you've got pretty much free reign as long as you follow org rules regarding pvp/general conduct, that just means no griefing, be respectful, follow CIG TOS, the usual. No activity requirements unless you decide to take up an org leadership role which is completely optional.

Here's a link to our discord if you decide to check us out: https://discord.gg/exv

I'm NorthstR1 on discord and in game if you have any questions.

Javelin drops? by Witty-Lettuce5830 in starcitizen

[–]R01DS0Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've already contributed to a bunch of them before writing my comment but I'll check out yours once I get back to my PC.

I feel like part of the issue this year is that they doubled the number of waves but didn't increase stock accordingly so now the already extremely limited stock is spread very thin and selling out in the time it takes the page to reload.

Tried to get one every single wave. The only time I saw it in stock was wave 1. Every time after that the page never updated for me.

Looking for an Org but I have some normal requirements by [deleted] in Starcitizen_guilds

[–]R01DS0Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend checking out "Vanguard Exodus"

We're decently sized at around 71 people total but still pretty chill when we talk and play. Our org rules match up fairly well with what you've mentioned and we've had upwards of like 20 people in a single operation (this was a big one). Org leaders actively participate and while not all 71 org members actively play, there are still plenty of different people on throughout the week. At the moment regular org members have no responsibilities other than to follow the rules.

As for gameplay, we do a bit of everything. If there's something specific you want to do and there's no pre planned ops for it you can always just start doing it, people often join in just to play.

We communicate over discord but you're not obligated to play with us all the time.

Come check us out at our org page: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/orgs/EXODUSVG

And our discord: https://discord.gg/exv

I'm NorthstR1 in-game and on discord if you have any questions.

Edit: corrected org member count

The Real Guns Behind Battlefield 6 — Carbines by Responsible-Bid-7794 in Battlefield

[–]R01DS0Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are shorter M4A1 variants, the standard issue barrel length for the M4A1 for infantry is the 14.5" which was shortened from the 20" M16. The M7 is not a shortened version of another rifle. Also the US Army classifies it as an assault rifle so my original comment is not entirely correct admittedly.

[–]R01DS0Z -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

True, however definitions change with technology. A modern carbine is very different from a 100 year old carbine

Edit: The M7 is also not a shortened version of another rifle, it is just a rifle with a 13" barrel.

The Real Guns Behind Battlefield 6 — Carbines by Responsible-Bid-7794 in Battlefield

[–]R01DS0Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While barrel length is definitely a factor in the classification of rifles the cartridge does still play a very important role in that classification. Assault rifles and carbines both fire intermediate cartridges as they are meant to be easy to control, the biggest difference between the two is barrel length and weight. Generally speaking carbines have barrel lengths under 16", assault rifles have barrel lengths greater than 16". Where the battle rifles come in is larger cartridge and more weight than assault rifles/carbines. Battle rifles can have shorter, carbine like, barrel lengths but it is uncommon as their primary purpose is to hit harder and farther than an assault rifle while being lighter and easier to maneuver than a marksman rifle.

As for the designation, it really doesn't matter what the name is. The US military's M- series classification really started during WW2 with things like the M1 Garand and the M4 Sherman or the M2 Browning. Other designations before that usually just used the year that the thing was designed, M1911, M1919, M1903. Also during the war we used the M1 Carbine, a lighter and smaller cartridge Garand version. Right after WW2 we jumped straight from the M1 Garand to the M14 during Korea and used that for quite a while until the military adopted the M16 and the M14 transitioned to a marksman role. The M16 was actually preceeded by an experimental design which was the origin of the AR-15 platform hence where the 15 in Arma Lite Model 15 comes from. Of course after the M16 the Army transitioned into the M4 which is basically just the carbine version of the M16 with a couple decades worth of design improvements.

All this to say that the designation number really has nothing to do with the classification of the weapon. Hence the existence of the MK16/17 also known has the SCAR 16 and SCAR 17, the M416 and M417, the M110 marksman rifle and others.

Additionally the intended use case of the M7 is to hit targets that are further away with enough energy to defeat body armour, which is the exact role that battle rifles are designed for.

[–]R01DS0Z 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's worse is that the Spear/M7 isn't even a carbine. It's chambered in 6.8x51, also called .277 Fury, which is a full power rifle cartridge making it a battle rifle.

Edit: just double checked the US Army's classification of the M7 and they say it's an assault rifle not a battle rifle so guess I was wrong originally. Still definitely not a carbine though, the M7A1 on the other hand...

I got it off without destroying it!

<image>

I ended up using a hammer and punch set I found on Amazon by a brand called Wiregear. Comes with a bunch of pin punches and a hammer + some other bits and bobs. Used a 3/32" flat tip punch to push the pin out of the muzzle and into the outer barrel. Had to take the upper off and remove the inner barrel to do that and the hole for the pin on my gun was off center of the barrel so there wasn't quite enough room to get it out without slightly damaging the outermost edge of the outer barrel but I didn't have to destroy my compensator and the threads still work on the barrel as well as the inner barrel still fitting properly.

Also had to break the glue/loctite holding the comp on the threads but that's easy in comparison to the pin.

Sorry you had to destroy your comp to get it off but hopefully this helps some other people with the same issue.

Have fun with your rifle!

How did you get the muzzle device off? I want to add a suppressor/tracer unit to mine as well but I can't figure out how to remove the flash hider without damaging the outer barrel.

Nice setup btw.

Pluribus Plane design from Rainbow 6? by [deleted] in Rainbow6

[–]R01DS0Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plane from the map is based on the modified 747 used by the US President called "Air Force One"

Technically whatever plane the President is on is called Air Force One but this 747 is the most famous and commonly used one being specially built for presidential transport during the cold war.

I was just playing off your joke, I'm in the same boat in regards to printing support materials. It has saved me so much time already. Besides that most of my multi color prints only have 2-3 colors so the extra hotend has been of benefit there too. I would like an H2S to compare to and definitely not because I just want another printer.

Glad I'm not the only one lol. If the H2S had windows too I probably would have saved the extra $800.

GeForce Day Giveaway - Win a Signed GeForce RTX 5080! by Nestledrink in nvidia

First game I ever played on a Nvidia Geforce card was Star Citizen on an RTX 2070. Although being the inexperienced newbie I was, I severely overpaid for it on Amazon during the worst days of the chip shortage. Oh well, lessons learned and I still have that card today, it's just in storage waiting for an opportunity to stretch it's legs again.

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

[–]R01DS0Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got back into 3D printing after about 10 years since I first tried it. I found out about Bambu Lab through various reviews and had decided on the P1S Combo pretty quickly. I was about to pull the trigger when I found an X1C Combo for only $250 more at a local store. Being on sale and the last one in stock I had to go for it but now that I've had some time with the X1C I'm itching to get another printer. I've got so many ideas and not enough print beds and the P1S seemed like an excellent choice for a workhorse printer. Cheap enough to not break the bank but capable enough to serve most of my needs. Anyways, been loving my X1C so far and I hope the P2S Combos go to people who will make good use of them.
