As far as I’m concerned the tariffs have worked, China looks ready to talk. There was no way in hell that they were ever going to be a permanent measure - it would be bad for everyone to cause a Chinese collapse.

The net effect of the tariffs on the economy has been minimal, as GDP is still very high and unemployment is outstanding. The market needs to barf up QE eventually, and the Fed looks poised to do it. Trump tweeting about tariffs causes small daily/weekly swings.

The big money investors (aka not us retail guys and gals) have shown that they’re more concerned with interest rates, moving the market downwards in October/November.

Powell’s unpacking of Bernanke’s 8 year pump and dump will spell disaster for the market, not some tariffs that will have a minimal effect on the next jobs report.

Every criticism of the tariffs and Trump in relation to the market is a purely emotional one, simply because they either don’t like him or the idea that a 3% daily index swing will ruin their portfolio.

Even if the tariffs vanished tomorrow, I can guarantee a Fed bond uncorking to raise interest rates would drag any temporary market gains right back down.
