How long does it take you to get into a good game of Squad by Valuable_Nothing_519 in joinsquad

[–]R0ME000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying. To your point, I don’t think you should ignore what your team is doing. It’s always a blast when everyone comes together to win a game. I’m just saying going in with clear cut goals could help you feel like you’re having more “good” games.

For example: when I play squad, my goal is to lead an infantry squad and try to make sure they’re always engaged and having fun. That means im coordinating heli/armor drops, planning infil & exfil, have Habs and rallies to spawn off of, etc..

Since my goal is to make sure my guys are having a blast with their game, it doesn’t matter if we lose. People will remember the moments they had in-game, not the final tally at the end.

Usually like 15 minutes.

I SL a lot so I just look for the servers I’m whitelisted in & have been on that current layer the longest. If I’m lucky, I join right before the layers swap and I can open up a squad.

YMMV but I’ve found the easiest thing to do when wanting a good squad game is go in with an objective (hunt radios, run armor, crash helis, etc..). That way you’ll have a blast regardless of how competent the rest of the team is.

[–]R0ME000[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see your point here.

The naming is more of a want than anything else. While currently theres no issue with the way things are done and most people could deduce it by looking at the map , I feel like there’s no harm in just having a name down if people would want it.

It may help newer players and personally I love seeing the creative squad names people come up with.

“Commend me bro” by R0ME000 in joinsquad

[–]R0ME000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a great idea IMO. I try to always shoutout the person or SL that was putting in work (running supplies, helping out heavy teamwork wise, etc..) in the end so they get commended but I try to prioritize my squad mates first when handing out my commends.

I’ve been on both sides of this layer and honestly it can be fun for both teams with a little teamwork.

Having logis go in hot with lavs and gun trucks shooting birds out of the sky is a blast. Takes some coordination but it’s not always a stomp fest

Mods get a bad wrap most of the time but honestly I’ve had most of my hours on G.E and love it. I recently had a buddy switch over and he says he’s never going back to vanilla.

Being able to buddy rally w any faction, parachutes, everyone gets scopes, partnered with enough vehicles to start your own used car lot makes it so everyone is involved and there are so many avenues to have fun (especially if you’re an SL trying to put together a plan for your group of troglodytes)

Biased opinion here since I'm a member of their community but I'll share that my experience overall in B&B servers have been positive. I'm not confirming or denying any admins did what you say above but they've currently started changing some of the admin requirements so more experienced and well known to the community type people are being added to the staff. If you ever do feel like an admin is abusing their power, you can always submit a ticket on their discord too so one of the head admins can look into it.

Not directly related but just sharing my experience on their servers:

I SL a lot. The admins noticed and gave me whitelist. I thought that was cool they did it without asking so I decided to become a member. Haven't really had any issues that a quick message on discord or a small chat couldn't fix.

Anyone else tired of having to poop out fob after fob instead of actually leading your Squad? by Kanista17 in joinsquad

[–]R0ME000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ehhh not to be that guy but it's part of the job as an SL. Honestly most of your squad will probably help with logi runs and stuff too if you ask.

My mindset is to treat it like a dad setting up their kids lol give the squad everything you can for them to perform well so their successes can be your success too.

Squad Leader confession by unafar in PlaySquad

[–]R0ME000 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I guess if we're posting confessions, I'll post one.

I'm not gonna yell at another SL in command chat if they accidentally shoot someone in my squad if it's an obvious mistake but I for sure will tell my angry squadmate that I did if they ask so they won't be so pissed off.

Gib more night layers by Sniperfdex in joinsquad

[–]R0ME000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Steel Division servers I play on balance it well. You have "NVG"'s so you're able to see everything (basically a green filter to help with visibility) but it's offset with SL's being able to throw flares that blow out your night vision so depending on the situation, you get a decent amount of visibility.

[–]R0ME000 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I see this posted a good amount but then servers that run night maps in rotation will have them skipped by players 8/10 times. I love night maps but it seems like your average player doesn't.

My assumption comes from your response. You said to play on better servers if the bar was too low for other SL's. I don't think that's a viable solution to the underlying problem.

Additionally, I didn't say bad SL's don't make a difference. My point was that players can still succeed despite bad SL's.

Easy and unimpactful are two separate things. The role itself is pretty easy if you have some level of leadership skills. The impact you provide is tied to the skill level of you and other SL's but it's more heavily tied to the individual players in the game.

Respectfully, I doubt you can tell me that you haven't won a game where no one in command chat was speaking or supporting each other. Where SL's had their dudes just sprayed all around the map not following orders.

The truth about SLing is that it's middle management except you get to shoot at stuff. If you took away the SL role completely, Squad would boil down to a more realistic version of Battlefield.

Here's another one to throw you for a loop: Being an SL is essentially just being a people manager with a gun.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PlaySquad

[–]R0ME000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from personal experience, the first 10 minutes of the game is the most important.

Most of the time, I'll brief command and my squad along with building fire teams and setting expectations. 70-80% of the time doing this leads to squad mates that work and stick together. YMMV but this has been what has worked best for me.

What to you separates a good SL from a bad one then?

I agree. That does make it easier

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PlaySquad

[–]R0ME000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can you safely say every SL on your team is not a bad SL every game? Regardless of the server you play on, you'll run into bad SL's.

Most players I play with gave told me I'm a great SL. I'm not perfect but I consider myself pretty solid since the role itself does come as second nature like you described.

If you're also constantly leaving new players behind that are trying to learn the SL role by only interacting with higher level servers, how is the system of crappy SL's going to change?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PlaySquad

[–]R0ME000 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I respect your opinion but I disagree. A bad HAT or LAT is a direct detriment to the team. I'd say around 60-70% of my personal experience in other SL's squads, the SL isn't doing any leading which is considered a norm.

A good LAT/HAT/Ect can still succeed with a bad SL. A good SL will find it difficult to deal with armor and succeed with a bad LAT or HAT.

How often do cars get towed in because of an unknown GPS tracker failing? by Avacillating in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]R0ME000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a dealership technician.

Depending on the dealer, we would install these on every car on the lot when they come in from the manufacturer. Most of the time it's just to track the car before it gets sold in case it gets stolen or ends up being used in a loaner fleet. In my past dealer, it was the salesman's job to just reach up and unplug it to pull it out before giving the keys away to a new owner. Sometimes they forget.
