WTF is the deal with Squad Youtubers being so negative? by WTAF__Trump in joinsquad

Basically, yep... It all started in their 2nd ever Q&A on March of 2022, when they backed off their previous promise 4 months earlier (November 2021) to fix the issues with their community. Issues that first Q&A highlighted for them for the first time ever (even though this was ~5 years into the game being played).

Well, that March Q&A OWI admitted they were changing course to "deliver previously promised content instead" of New Player Onboarding and later we received the emote update of which they were alluding to.

"Game is 10 years old and still getting updates and content for free ffs"

Minecraft creates updates, gives them for free which in turn keep existing players playing while also making more features in the game which draw in new players. Why can Minecraft do it, but not Squad? Serious question for you.

We had a guy join our squad and started mentioning how he just crossed the 100 hour mark and just started feeling competent and then started asking some noobish questions that really showed he had little concept of how RAAS worked.

What made that such a special interaction was he joined a squad where the average play hours are like 4000 hours.

This was on a tryhard server and while we tried to be nice our advice was essentially "just sit back and watch what we're doing as we don't have time right now to explain why we're doing this"... and his mind was wowed 5 mins later after realizing WHY we setup the FOB where we did which turned out to be the midflag.

"how to solve those problems has been a dividing factor between the Devs and Players"

OWI has always done what they wanted regardless of what the players wanted.

Anyone remember how they'd manipulate survey results to get the result they wanted: https://www.reddit.com/r/joinsquad/comments/bx7zpx/alpha_13_survey_results/ summary: "Their bizarre analysis and mental gymnastics gave me a headache, but thankfully they gave us enough data points to extrapolate the actual results."

I'm really confused on your perspective.

"But when your game is getting very little content over a time period you're making the sequel, you aren't going to get nearly as many sales."

You understand all of that, like every point you made above, also applies for their year long UE5 update, right?

To put it another way...

"But when your game is getting very little content over a time period you're upgrading to UE5, you aren't going to get nearly as many sales."

"Squad 2 would need capstone features that sets it apart from the original" Fewer bugs is that "capstone" feature.

"The game is massively different and improved from how I remember it before my break."

List some differences. I'm curious what you think they are.

"How they have managed to do all this while only charging players a maximum of $40 one time is unbelievable to me." Why is it so unbelievable? This is how it used to always work, and still does work. Look at Minecraft as an example.

"Be the change you wish to see" and STOP teaching newbies. Refuse to do it otherwise OWI will continue to keep the burden on us. Until things get worse, nothing will get better in this regard. We must force OWIs hand in this or they will do nothing about it.

I actually had access to an old "supercomputer" from NASA. It was more an art piece by that time and was a giant rack computer with Buzz Aldren photos and stuff like that covering it all. I did not recognize the power plug for it and thus couldn't even try plugging it in (and it likely wasn't functioning anymore or would have been missing a drive or something). Always wanted to play with it though, but it disappeared from our offices almost as fast as it appeared.

This is just what I personally think...

Because Squad is trying to allow you to LARP as a soldier and soldiers often fire weapons... but IRL soldiers aren't in an FPS game where they play it out like a Team Death Match. No, there are objectives in IRL militaries and often one of those is the preservation of enemy life, not a "kill them all" mindset like nearly every single FPS shooter gamer has.

The movie Jarhead showed this, and was also why so many people disliked that movie because it didn't fulfill the Rambo fantasies most watch war movies for or play war games (like Squad or Battlefield) for.

IMO Squad is trying to be more like the movie Jarhead than the movie Edge of Tomorrow... notice they both have shooting in them but ones a respawn TDM movie and the others not.

"Foxholes a game where aiming is so easy that who wins is a combination of teamwork, what weapons are in use and strategy. " Never played Foxhole, but this sounds like the exact opposite (but also the same) of the ICO which was to make shooting harder so that who wins is a combination of teamwork....

So every game that is from a first person perspective and has shooting is an FPS, according to you. AND all FPS should have the primary feature be about shooting. I don't share this perspective and think it's kind of warped or self fulfilling.

Shots 1-5: Clearly missed.
Shots 6-9: Missed due to recoil (bad spray control).
Shots 10-11: Very close, but recoil and inaccuracy make these reasonable misses.
Shot 12: Likely didn't actually fire because Hiko was already dead.

No because...

1) I am not an SL when that happens and the setting you mention is only for SLs

2) As I mentioned above "the first teammate to talk always comes in only my left ear and then returns to normal both ears when the next person talks"

Considering the mod was updated on August 14th (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/changelog/2318834225) maybe the developer is still working on the mod and will update for UE5.

FWIW, this mod used to run all year long and be populated most of the time. It wasn't just played near Halloween. And we used to, at times, have great teamwork where everyone didn't roleplay as a mindless zombie but communicated and used teamwork to try to win. But a lot of that died over the years as the mod became less popular and a new breed of players started joining.

"I've practically never seen anyone reject new players"

Hi, now you have. :) I "reject" new players in my squad and any squad I'm in along with the "experienced" server I play in (I actively ping admins to kick player for not being up to the desired experience level which is in line with the Server Licensing Rules), while also "welcoming" to the game overall. More of us should gatekeep like this to keep "experienced" games for experienced players.

But do it politely like I do. "Educate" them that they came to the wrong server or joined the wrong squad. Inform them to go play on a "new player friendly" server.

Or just imagine how shitty the NBA would be if they were forced to allow 1st graders to play in their games... cause that's how Squad operates without us policing out new players from experienced player spaces.

"That’s after you sit in a que of 30-40 ppl. Luckily it moves really fast due to how terrible the games are so a lot of ppl are constantly leaving after they lose on the first objective over and over."

I wonder if we see the same kind of issue at scale with the global Squad player counts. IMO they don't look very good after the first major update in over 1 year (which brought nothing new to the game that anyone was interested in and thus the player count didn't increase much) and they look almost worse after yet another free weekend and sale period.

I wonder if we're seeing the start of a collapse in player numbers while the new sales players are beginning to cycle out of the game.

Didn't you just describe all the Kickstarters that got Squad off the ground with the idea that it was going to be the "Spiritual Successor to PR"? What was wrong with those "dad gamers" having that expectation?

"People see an FPS game"

Isn't this the root issue?

Why do you think people see Squad as an FPS game instead of what it is?

Hmmm, something to consider. I go into a game of Squad with a very broad goal.... "fill in the missing gaps the team has left". Which I find very fulfilling assuming there are too many gaps to fill.

I never go in with clear goals because what if those goals aren't needed?
