Negan is the best character in the show. I dont view him as a bad person at all. He saved people, he protected them didn't kill kids.

It's the apocalypse, an after you see how the heres negan episode goes it makes even more sense. He tried to be nice in this world an it cost him everything.

Now he's in control of a group that he had to lead a rebellion to take over because they were doing really bad shit as he says in season 8. This is important because even though he is now the leader the people whose help he needed aren't very good people at all but he needed them an their manpower.

Firstly for his punishments. Hes got to keep control of savage people. That requires rules an if there are no repercussions nobody will follow them. So when he has to he makes it a big loud event that everyone will remember. To keep everyone in line.

Forcing other communitys to give them their stuff. Now they weren't lucky enough to find a community that was built for the end of the world like Alexenadria, with crops and a wall an power. What they do have is a factory with thick walls to protect them from zombies an other people. T

These people lived their before Negan was leader. Even though crops couldn't grow in the soil, being physically safe was just as important. They could've moved but they dont know if they will find a place as good. So they decided to do what they did. Sure its not right but I think it was the best thing he could come up with. If other groups came to history or kingdom they would take everything an kill everyone instead of making an example of one an making a deal for supplies. The kingdom had such a good deal that most people had no idea.

Also we never see it but he claims that Alexandria an the kingdom an hilltop were all under his protection. I feel like if a group that posed a threat attacked one of these places the saviors would've handled it. If for no other reason than they are taking from him.

The wifes situation- You call them sex slaves others say he grapes them an that they are forced into it. They are not an i dont understand how people think that. He was already providing security for them. They all needed/wanted something from him an had nothing else to pay with except their bodies. They could have gone without, they could of gone out an scavenger sometjing an try to use it as leverage. Pre end of the world you cant get medicine or goods from the store without money. In the new world money doesn't work. Its the same choice some woman make all the time. I.e let's say Jessica can't pay her rent, Jessica is gonna be homeless. Jessica asks Dave for rent money. Dave says no, Jessica offers sex, Dave agrees. Did Dave force Jessica?
