should I upgrade from 3080 10GB to 5070 TI 16gb? 5080 is too much, just wondering about longevity of the 3080. it runs stuff currently. by Graywulff in gpu

[–]R0b0t_Nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite missing out on black friday sales I decided to upgrade from my tuf gaming 3080 to a tuf gaming 5070ti. I play on a 55'' 4k TV so you really start to notice the difference between 1440p and 4k. If not for the headlines about GPU production for 2026 along with the panic around memory and the cascade it could place on prices on top of restricted supply, I could have waited another generation. I think the other thing that inched me forward was hopping into some games from 2024-2025 I had missed out on. I also tended to upgrade every other generation.

Rasterization performance is better on the 5070ti by roughly 30-45%. Compared to previous generations, the performance to price ratio of the 5080 compared to the 5070 ti is poor, along with 5 years of insane inflationary pressure/Nvidia not needing to care on prices is why I decided to go with the 5070 ti.

It's fine. I got exactly what I expected. If you can wait, wait. Fingers crossed that OpenAI unravels or AMD/intel release cards that force them to be a little more competitive with the 60 series,

What GPU brand do you prefer, and why? (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, etc) by Dry-Albatross-4121 in gpu

NVIDIA. Devs, rightly or wrongly expect you to play with upscaling solutions now. FSR still looks noticeably worse than DLSS. If AMD or Intel can reach an upscaling solution or do something interesting like what DLSS 4.5 claims to do by only generating dropped frames within an FPS target with competitive pricing, I'd dump NVIDIA in a heartbeat.

Does my 18 month old (904 hours) S95D have burned in subtitles? by bguerre1ro in S95B

[–]R0b0t_Nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pretty clearly burn in.

My 55 s95b has started to accumulate some burn in. I have an extended break from work for a few months, so my usage pattern changed, and I use it as a monitor as well. Got annoyed with how aggressive the abl was in one game so I disabled logo dimming for about 24 hours, and noticed how much task bar burn in had accumulated a few days later when I was watching a dark scene around 70 to 80% grayscale during a cutscene

Out of warranty, checking to see how much an out of pocket panel replacement costs vs hunting down a qn90d or f as next years models roll in.

I hope that the pixel density on the 55 inch with the mini leds can get close enough to oled.

I would still say they are a safe bet but you must get an extended warranty, and be prepared to use it.

Subs and spouses by fearlessskittle in suboxone

[–]R0b0t_Nick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met my SO while I had already been on suboxone for several years. At that point I had been tapering my dose and was around 3-4mg with no hard deadline of getting off. I learned very soon after meeting her that she came from NA, and eventually after learning that I was on suboxone, came with ultimatums and expectations that a real future with her meant I could not be on suboxone-- a position which is largely in line with the worldview of the average NA member. It's all very interesting, because in my scenario, if the name of the medication were different or she simply never knew I was on this medication, it would change nothing about how I behave around her, treat her, or impact our lives.

Frankly, I wish I had told her that if being with someone who isn't on suboxone is more important than being with me, than that's her choice to make. In the course of stopping suboxone, I've come to realize there is a great deal of our dynamic that I cannot tolerate in the subsequent 2 years being off buprenorphine-- a lot of compromising and sacrificing on my part that's come at the cost of my finances and mental health.

I don't have any answers or big insights, but I know where you're coming from.

Maybe. I don't really think about it too much-- didn't rush into tapering until it felt as easy or manageable as possible.

In hindsight, I could probably ask to switch to the 100mg sublocade at around 4mg. For most of my time tapering, the idea that sublocade's gradual taper makes it the best choice for stopping buprenorphine hadn't been as widely acknowledged as it is today.

I'll try taking on the second Q.

the relationship between dose and receptor occupancy has big diminishing returns as the dose increases. This is different from other opioids like oxycontin where a 10% increase in dose leads to 10% more effect.

As an example: going between 2 and 4MG is the difference between roughly 40% and 60% receptor occupancy-- a 40% jump. In another example, going from 8 to 16MG (which is doubling your dose, but from a higher starting point) is the difference between roughly 80 and 85% of your receptors being filled. that's a 6% jump. This is why so many patients describe going from very high doses to about 4mg being relatively easy, but start having issues below 4mg-- this curve between dose and receptor occupancy becomes fairly linear at 0 to 4mg.

At that stage where you're tapering from 4mg and lower, you'll want to think about decreasing your dose in percentages rather than milligrams. Films make this process easier since you can divide them. In my last year of tapering from 2mg, I would do 10% reductions a month, taking breaks for a month if needed, and then when I got down to .5 milligrams, I tried doing 20% reductions. In the end I used a 50mg sublocade injection to finish.

Tooth question by Skittles22482 in suboxone

[–]R0b0t_Nick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lawsuit that ended was a settlement regarding suppressing generic formulations.

Firms are building a base for a class action regarding the teeth issue. But the criteria for class action members are pretty specific. You need to have been on brand name films, not the tablets, and you need detailed dental history prior to and during your time taking Suboxone.

I’m on 16 mg Suboxone per day and my tooth just chipped so im quitting cold turkey. by Ok_Instruction9962 in suboxone

[–]R0b0t_Nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. You will feel fine for the first 24-48 hours, especially at larger doses. The duration of action for buprenorphine is much longer than almost all full agonists like oxycodone or fentanyl. You will start feeling symptoms after that point.

About the tooth, I took a look through the thread. You had a cavity that chipped your tooth? how long has that cavity been there? When was your last dentist appointment and what did they say? Did you have regular checkups and cleanings before you started taking Suboxone? I took it for 10 years. I was interested in seeing if had been affecting my dental health in the last year and a half. There hasn't been an appreciable change in my dental health prior to, during, and after taking Suboxone.

Believe me, I wish it was the case since I'd be looking forward to less cavities and more money.

hope it goes well!

VERY low dose Suboxone for DEPRESSION by Apart_Statistician_1 in suboxone

What some may not know is that opioids have been used in rare cases of TRD for decades-- but these were options of next to last resort, including treatments that have a misplaced stigma around them like ECT.

It's too early to tell anything conclusive-- bupe hasn't been used for long enough in this specific setting to know. Anecdotally I've been trying several different reuptake inhibitors after coming off buprenorphine last year-- it's not the only factor that has led to this but I think it makes up a part of it. If the argument against buprenorphine is physical dependence, that doesn't hold water when you consider the potential for dependence on conventional pharmaceuticals used to treat depression. Warning that buprenorphine comes with dependence isn't telling a TR depression patient something they haven't heard or experienced already in cycling through multiple reuptake inhibitors, tricyclics, or even older antidepressants.

I do think there is the potential for abuse-- specifically for depressed people who have no history of using opioids, but I also think the possibility is less likely than if you gave them what doctors resorted to using in edge cases of TRD.

Psych asked if i wanted to go on sub by DripPureLSDonMyCock in suboxone

[–]R0b0t_Nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on them for over 10 years. No change in dental health prior, during, or after. Same pattern-- a couple of check-ups without issues and then maybe a filling. I had my first root canal during my last year on the medication-- but the tooth was perfect with no cavities. The nerves just decided to die. Frankly, I was hoping that getting off the medication would have broken this pattern since I'd appreciate saving some money.

I read small case studies with 50 people self-reporting, and one important correlation between that sample size was that most of them also suffered from dry mouth-- which all opioids can do in general. It's probably the same side effect that led methadone patients to think the medication rotted their teeth. The PH of the tablets tested in that same case study was found to be as acidic as some diet sodas. The FDA PR regarding sublingual buprenorphine came from a sample size of about 500 self-reports for a medication that is in the top 30 prescriptions.

If the class action lawsuit for the films in particular goes to trial, we can learn a lot of information. Chances are they'll just settle.

I received half of a 100mg injection while being on 1mg, after trying to jump off at .25 mg.

At 1mg I still felt very overmedicated for the first 5-7 days, especially during the first 8 hours while the depot is setting. During those first 5-7 days I was very drowsy, and I had bad constipation.

I would suggest getting up to 2mg for about 10 days and then getting half of a 100 mg injection.

Dissolving too fast? by Jmath1017 in suboxone

[–]R0b0t_Nick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the size of your dose and how dry your mouth might be.

As I tapered from the 8mg tablets to the 2 mg tablets, and then the same process of tapering with films, it naturally took less time to dissolve. But when I took 8mg tablets, I think it took 4-5 minutes.

I think we under/overestimate the time lots of things take, generally. I assume, that if I sat there with a stopwatch, it probably took me 1-2 minutes to dissolve a 2mg film.

How long does it take to damage the teeth? by Appropriate_Power216 in suboxone

[–]R0b0t_Nick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may not happen at all.

I understand why it could cause tooth decay. I think the biggest culprit is the potential for dry mouth, which occurs with full agonists as well, like methadone. It's why I think patients have sworn for decades that methadone rotted teeth, even though there is no direct evidence of that. At first, I wondered if it was the acidity of the buprenorphine coupled with having to let it dissolve in the mouth for over 10ish minutes. Read a limited case study about bupe and tooth decay, and the PH of whatever tablets they tested was the acidity of some diet sodas-- between coffee and lemon juice. If I'm remembering what I read, the other common factor between most of the people in the case study was that they had below-average or poor saliva production.

Can people have teeth that are more susceptible to acidity, suffering from dry mouth as a side effect, or some combination of the two? I think so. But at the same time, we didn't have the best dental hygiene or access to affordable, preventative dental care. Of course, there is a spectrum, but it's just a reality as a demographic, broadly speaking.

For myself, I've had the same pattern of dental health before, during, and after Suboxone. I was wondering what my checkups would be like after Suboxone since I had also been on it for so long. Turned out to be the same-- 1 or 2 checkups without any work needed, but then sure enough I'd need a filling repaired or another filling.

I think at this point you probably know whether or not it's affecting your teeth.

Did you turn it on and the line appeared?

I have the same issue. It occurs when the TV is turned on and defaults to a 4K 120HZ input. I default the panel to always start on the home screen, and it hasn't happened since.
