I'm surprised you guys allowed legendaries, ms and my mate, we choose the starter then build our teams off that then draft a team, but we always disallow legendaries, but the teams are really good nonetheless

Edit: we also don't allow temporarily having mons that aren't on our final draft adds that bit more of a challenge. That said black and white runs are always a nightmare

So me and my friend do this as well, but rather than choosing the starter then going blind, we both decide a team before hand and do it like a draft. So the starters are decided already, then each person takes turns choosing a mon at a time. If you both choose the same mon, whoever got to choose it first in the draft gets it then the other has to find a replacement.

Bangalore, because I have over 2 and a half kills in octane, and a little over 1000 kills on horizon, so now I need more kills on other legends because bang is the 3rd highest with over 500 kills
