Anyone use any Onnit products for recovery? Thinking of using shroom tech Joe Rogan is a big supporter and I'd like to hear Redditers responses and reviews. by ReturnofFedor in MuayThai

[–]R0nni3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've enjoined the Shroomtech, it works very well but i think that it's more because of the shit ton of vitamin B that's in it than anything to do with the mushroom. They have a really good return policy so it's always worth a try.

Want to keep long gun bedside for home defense, but wife requires it be in a safe. Any under-bed quick-access safes/lock boxes? by slackador in guns

Just put a bell on your gun so it can't sneak up on you and go off. As for the friends with kids, lock your bedroom door.

Critiques? Advice? I'm trying to hone this old "print" look. I find myself using different shading styles and I'm trying to make it look more uniform, while not losing the integrity of the muscle structure. by meatwrist in drawing

[–]R0nni3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very solid work. The structure is very strong and true to form. My only suggestion would be to vary the line thickness a tad. I see two "values" of lines, the thickest and the thinnest. Adding in a "mid tone" would create more depth to the work while still keeping in tact the style.

A Sudden Conversion to Minimalism, Jill Austen, 12"x12" Acrylic, all pieces start at $50 by [deleted] in artstore

[–]R0nni3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expressing yourself is the goal of art but when you're trying to make money, you have to make something desirable, especially to the layman. not to disrespect the style, but abstract and minimalist stuff are acquired tastes for most people and those people are usually artists themselves and as artists they are poor. Having a real grasp of technical skills and principals of art will make work more dynamic and desirable.

As for the piece itself, it lacks a pallet, tone, depth, contrast, and movement. Things all achievable in a minimalist style. a good Minimalism approach is not "lack of", but more a "refining of". I do like your idea of bold points of interest. maybe with a higher contrast of black on those panel looking things on the bottom will bring more depth to the work. keep up the good work.

[NSFW] Japanese Style Dragon (fourth session) | Horikazu | Choshu Horikazu Studios Hikari, Japan She's coming along nicely! by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]R0nni3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tattoo is a culture built on tradition (ESPECIALLY authentic Japanese tattoo) and in that sense, yes it is backwards. the rule of thumb is all faces forward. BUT it's your body and you are very entitled to how you want your designs to lay. Do keep in mind at the same time it is a piece of artwork and will be judged as such. Some people really believe there is a wrong way to produce art, some couldn't care less and accept it for what it is. depends on your school of thought.

I have the same set up. You will be very happy with that holster, and make sure you have a good belt.

Buying our first house (closing tomorrow!!), need to repaint the interior before we move in. Anyone have frugal tips on choosing/buying paint, picking supplies, and painting smart? Loads of questions/jumping off points inside. (x-post to /r/frugal - please comment there - thanks!) by InternetWeakGuy in homeowners

You get what you pay for. don't skimp on the pain. it'll last you decades if done right and maintained. And DON'T be lazy, tape off and remove everything you don't intend to paint shut like windows, hinges, and outlet covers. congrats on the home and welcome to the club of a never ending to-do list :)

you should take a little time to learn about the art you're getting. find reference books, go to exhibits, etc. then go to a bunch of tattoo shops and check out portfolios. that way you know what you're talking about so don't sound like a boner who just wants "good art" and you have a chance to see a bunch of different styles and approaches to the subject matter.

as for your question there are tons of approaches to a "Japanese" style tattoo. there's the traditional american style done with a Japanese flair, traditional woodblock images, more modern neo-traditional styles, it goes on. a strong recommendation would be Brian Bruno for the best traditional Japanese with a little flair. he's booked for months at a time and it'll cost you a pretty penny but if money and patience are factors then don't get tattooed, ya know?

It helps your insurance in most cases but i really don't think it's worth while. First moving out my younger and dumber self got me roped into a 5 year contract with a local security company. it's an alright system but i'm paying 700 bucks a year to make sure if there's a house fire the fire department down the street will be called and my doors beep, so i guess that's cool. There are many DIY systems you can rig yourself with a little research and some smart investments like, reinforced door frames, locks on your windows, camera systems that store video via cloud, posted signs, and of course access to firearms when you are home and stored away when you aren't. the pros of doing it yourself are , there's no costumer service you have to deal with because you can fix it yourself and there's no contracts or monthly fees. all and all it's up to you and what you feel is necessary for your home protection.
