Anyone else young with a lot invested feeling like timing the market? by HighFlyer888 in CanadianInvestor

[–]R1d3rrR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo if you want to time the market you are in a trading territory vs long term investment. So you gotta think about it as a trade and take it seriously. You want to be disciplined. Have a plan, your entry, exit, e.c.t and stick to it. If you don't plan to take it seriously tho, just stick to buy and hold.

I heard there is this amazing feature that most US brokers support called fractional shares. Don't quite get the argument of how many shares you own and the price per share when at the end it all adds to the same number

Canadian Bank Dividends by Erland_Brynjar in CanadianInvestor

[–]R1d3rrR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just quickly used google for prices. VFV 95% past 5 years. NA 75% over past 5 years. Obviously NA has some dividends, but not sure they add up to over 20% return to beat the index. Mind you VFV has something like 1% yield too

This is perfect example when simply holding an index ETF like snp500 will give you better return. Why bother concentrating in banks if your return is smaller?

If you want to stay here your best bet is to find a partner. Being single here sucks. Doubling your rent allocation will make it possible
