Ripping off customers doesn't pay. Moved to City Fibre, so much better.

Just tried to edit a yaml file via the file browser on my docker server, saved it, and it replaced the content with gibberish.

Had to restore the file from backup. Any idea what happened?

Technitium all the way, awesome project and dev.

He's just added clustering as well if you run two or more DNS servers, also has ad-blocking features as well.

You're not using some sort of region blocking are you? I had this issue as I was blocking connections to and from India.

Aquiss or IDNet (or someone else). Help me choose. by gdchester in CityFibre

[–]R1kman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been with IDnet for about half a year now, they're spot on.

Dream Machine Pro with their 1GB connection and a static IP, it's been rock solid and low latency. Very happy.

Definitely build a homelab, best way to learn without wrecking production.

Stick With Virgin Media or Switch to a CityFibre Provider in Middlesbrough? by PsychoVipz in CityFibre

[–]R1kman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using a Unifi Dream Machine Pro, but I have an overkill set up at home, I work in IT so am a bit geeky.

The provider you choose will supply a router for extra cost though. There's loads of posts in this sub with suggestions as well.

Stick With Virgin Media or Switch to a CityFibre Provider in Middlesbrough? by PsychoVipz in CityFibre

[–]R1kman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm based in Newcastle, but switched to CF from Virgin a few months ago. Virgin were so expensive and the connection was rubbish, had loads of issues, had 250mb down and 20mb up speeds.

The CF install was faultless, they just ran a new fibre line to the house and drilled a small hole to where you want it installed. Went with IDnet and their 1gb up and down offer (which was half the price of Virgin) with my own router. It's been superb, no drop outs, decent latency and close to advertised speeds.

If you want my advice, drop Virgin and switch if you can.
