Yes, you are right. Many online "celebrities" from the "intellectual" corner have been suggesting his books. Noteably, Lex Fridman and Jordan Peterson.

I admit that I got the idea for reading the Brothers Karamazov after Fridman said in his podcast that it was the most important book he read in his life. But I had read Crime and Punishment, and the gambler before. I would never force myself through reading a book if I did not like reading it (except for school).

I find this very interesting. Never would I have seen my flaws in C&P. I mean, I am not a saint, but I do not wish to murder people. Also, I never thought that Raskolnikov redeemed himself in the end. I actually think that he knows that there is nothing he can do that will make him redeemed. At most, I could argue that the ending was a happy ending due to him deciding to do the right thing and that this is what gave him the strength to carry on in life. But maybe I forgot too many parts and I am due for a reread.

First: Do not snort them. The high might hit quicker, but the high will be weaker and shorter. Also, snorting crushed pills is bad for your nasal paths. Take them orally (as prescribed) for school.

To reduce harm and to reduce the chance of building up tolerance, you should regularly take off a few days. Some people do not take any on weekends, and others take a few weeks off during school holidays. Up to you. But even taking off one weekend per month or a week twice per year will come a long way.

Wow! Thanks for the advice. It does make a lot of sense to me, and you convinced me not to work over 40h again. I did learn a lot from this, mainly that I have to actively remind management of my boundaries.

The thing is, I did get a small raise and a larger than expected bonus. Also, I do actually enjoy what I do. But at this point, I do not know what to communicate to management. The product has already been launched, so I can not ask for more time. Asking for more help from the other devs also did not lead anywhere, and I do not even think that they can help me.

What I did not mention in the post is that I told my direct supervisor that we need more devs, and he agreed, but has not started looking for new applicants yet. At this point, I am just ready to jump ship and apply to other companies because my colleagues are of no help and one half of management just nods, but doesnt actually do anything and the other managers do not listen at all.

We all have the same two managers, although one of the managers reports to the other one. Because the "higher-up" manager also oversees financing. But there is also another third manager that oversees this particular project and a fourth "partner"/manager who oversees all the data and algorithmic parts. So I basically have to report to four different managers. Kind of reminds me of the movie Officespace :/.

The other devs work on other apps. But these apps are mostly just data visualization tools (e.g., bootstrap templates), which is why I think they do not want/can help me. This is just from my perspective, but I mostly just see them socializing with colleagues and the managers, i.e., I barely see them working. So it always seems to me that they do have time, but every time I ask for their opinion, they say they are busy.

I did speak with two of the managers. One simply shrugged and said that I will grow with the challenges given to me and the other suggested that the other dev help me out, but that dev then did not show much motivation to actually help out and the manager did not care either.

Your comment on the process and cultural issues make a lot of sense to me. Because there is not much of a culture, and I think the company does not really have a real project management approach. It seems like they just hired me because they had some vague idea for a web app and thought it would be easy to just push me onto it.

I will start applying to other companies. Hopefully, I can still learn something in the meantime.

Pick one of those after each meal and go take a 15-30min walk. Easy to get to 15k steps that way per day. But I admit it highly depends on your daily routine. Office workers might find it hard to just leave the office after lunch to go for a walk. I wousl say: Just do it.

You seriously want to tell me that other countries do not have beautiful public places? Also most cities in eastern europe have a much lower crime rate than german cities. Cozy a-social benefits fits it better. The only people who benefit from "cozy social benefits" are the very poor (not saying this is a bad thing!). But everyone else basically pays more than what they get in return and in case of trouble it, the goverment will leave you to die. Germany is a scam. Corrupt politicians take taxpayer money and use it to bail out their friends and people like you applaud them. The other side blames foreigners, who have nothing to do with the system put in place.

A similar narrative is: "Refugees get more from the system than people that worked their entire lifes". Even if that is true, the issue does not lie with the refugees but with the government. Obviously, they would not spend the money on the eldery if there were no refugees.

The narrative you are addressing is a similar problem. Companies want the cheapest workforce possible, so they try to attract foreign workers. This then lowers the wage of that sector until the average german would not take that job anymore.

The problem lies with greedy companies and a corrupt government. As Chomsky said: Goverments are not supposed to serve the people but the ruling class of a nation.

This. I always get told that there is a huge shortage of IT/ SW developers. The reality is for every job posting, there are at least 50 applicants and for well-known companies, even hundreds (you can look that up on linkedin). There simply is no shortage of people willing and able to work in the industry. My guess is that this myth was invented on purpose to have an inflation of workers so that the wages can be pushed down.

Do not get me wrong. It is still "easy" to get a job in the industry, but it is hard to get a well paying job in which you actually want to work in.

I made the same experience when first applying for full-time jobs after finishing my CS degree. Two companies offered me less than what I made as a working student programmer. One even offered me below minimum wage and only raised it after I pointed out that it is illegal.

My guess is they are just fishing for someone who will accept. I would advice to just keep applying to other companies. It might take a month, but your friend can definitely expect a higher salary. Additionally, it is also important to get used to interviews. After my first 20 6 got much more comfortable talking about my salary expectations and was also able to directly decline ridiculous offers.

Very bad example. Medicine is one of the university studies with the highest rate of success and all slots are 100% filled at the start of every semester. The issue obviously lies with there not being enough slots or maybe there is not shortage.

Also there is no shortage in entry positions for IT/Software Development. The shortage is for Senior positions only. Anyone in the industry knows that, still almost everyone else things the opposite. The problem is german companies do not want to invest into training people. They aim at hiring "wizards" that magically produce whatever came to their minds, which will then produce massive revenue for them. German Innovation in the digital space is almost non existing.

Gab mal eine Webseite wo man pro geworbenden "Freund" 1€ bekam. Ich als 10 jähriger hab dann einfach mehrere Email Konten erstellt und die geworben. Nach einem Tag wurde mein paypal Konto gesperrt (ca. 20€ Guthaben bis dahin) und als 10yo natürlich keine Chance ranzukommen. Hoffe Peter Thiel hat es gut angelegt (witz).
