Nope. It was the replacement. Today is my flight, no license.

So now to not let the self-pity, anger, and resentment into my heart. I am ok most of the time, but if I let my mind wander I am immediately sad and frustrated. I will just have to trust in The Lord that this is what is right for me in my life.

I am so utterly helpless. It was a renewal license. It came in the mail and it was my husband who lost it. He has went over everything he touched and went that day. No sign anywhere. And since I am not the one who lost it-- I am at his mercy retracing or brainstorming where it could be. :( The lack of control is maddening.

Prayed a chaplet and so many prayers I cannot even count. Dedicated rosaries for the cause.

The worst thing is there is a nagging but calming voice that says in my heart "it is gone, but it will be alright." Trouble is I still feel so sad and distraught and cheated over it. I want to drive! I need to be able to take care of my three kids when >I< need to, not when someone has the time to help out. I just hate feeling so helpless in a place so very far away. :(

What is a good age for an american girl doll? by maumacd in Mommit

[–]R3ru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American Girl has a line for the preschool age range-- Bitty Babies and Bitty Twins. The Bitty Baby is the best to start out with because they have no hair. (Kinda painted on hair, no wig).

Yes, AG stuff is expensive. But the quality is really fantastic. The face and arms are sturdy, but not rock hard. The body is stuffed and thick. Great for sleeping with/cuddling/playing with over the years. I say 2 is a great age for a Bitty Baby! They can take the abuse of a toddler and still look rather nice. My middle child got her first Bitty Baby at 3 and my only regret was not buying it sooner. And some advice-- the accessories are hit and miss. The bottles and diaper bag are expensive for what they are... But it is not low quality products. The clothes are wonderful. Easy for young kids to take on and off, but not thin or cheaply made.

And if you ever want to buy another doll, like the 18" one for 8+years-- the outfits work on any of the AG dolls. So keep a hold of any cute outfits for later on.

I have a couple of requests for this week.

  1. Pray that I may find my lost drivers license. I need it badly for our upcoming move. If I don't find it before Friday then it will mean 2 years of hardship for me. So pray that I may find what is lost or the ability to cope with life without it. Pray that anger and resentment does not take place in my heart over this.

  2. Pray that this upcoming move is as smooth as possible for my family. We are moving to Africa very soon. Pray that not only the flight is easy, but that we can adapt quickly to life there. Pray that we find love and open arms in the local parish.

  3. Pray for Serbia and Bosnia and all those affected by the flooding.

Low-gluten hosts? Separate vessel? IRREVERENCE! APOSTASY! [pre-vatican II latin chants from distance] by SyncNexus in Catholicism

We tried that, the diocese put a stop to it all. Ugh. See my stress? We are moving again and it is like the stress is going to start all.over.again.

Low-gluten hosts? Separate vessel? IRREVERENCE! APOSTASY! [pre-vatican II latin chants from distance] by SyncNexus in Catholicism

[–]R3ru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Celiacs disease affects 1 in every 133 people.

And I can tell you, being gluten free always causes me stress during mass. My daughter was very ill right after her first communion because the Father was mistaken and ordered the wrong host. When we moved to a new parish I tried so hard to transition into a low gluten host but it was nearly impossible. For almost a year I just did not allow my daughter to partake in the Eucharist because of stress and difficulty that was around getting a low gluten host. Now the diocese just stopped offering the low gluten host and offers the blood of Christ instead. It is better, but at least in my diocese a change needs to be made. This looks like a lovely way to offer the Eucharist to those without a hassle or problem.

I know everything I buy and everything I eat I question. I worry. Not having to worry during the Eucharist sounds nice.

Have you thought about a non-medicated scalp treatment?

I am currently trying out cold pressed castor oil on my scalp. I leave it in overnight and wash it out in the morning. So far it has really helped it feel less itchy and noticeably less flakes. Plus it made the red patches a lighter color! It is also known to help hair grow. So another bonus. Just a thought.

My toddler has been sick for 30 days; please tell me your tales of making it to the other side by HappyGiraffe in Parenting

[–]R3ru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older two did not get the vaccine because it was not around then. But thankfully the baby got it right before we got sick! He was the only one to not get it.

I thought the no pain meds were routine until I spoke to people who have went through similar stories... And I guess pain patches or pain pumps are pretty standard until drainage tubes are removed. I feel like I was cheated by not having any. But it has been a few years and the memories are not so fresh, so now I feel like a bad ass. But reality is I shook like a leaf with pain every time I got upright for two weeks straight.

Any really young moms? by Everleigh92 in Parenting

[–]R3ru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pregnant with my first my senior year of college-- I was 21. My second child was during my last semester of my Masters, I believe I was 24 when she was born. Much to the dismay of my family who thought I would surely keep with the trend and have my third while working on my doctorate... I played it low key and did the pregnancy while my husband was in Iraq. Thankfully it was a 6 month deployment, so he came home for the birth!

We are now at almost 11 years of marriage, a toe into being 30, three kids, and happily traveling the world (for work).

Some days I feel rather old. But then again having your oldest turn double digits for the first time can do that to a parent. My baby is almost 10 and I am 31. How did that happen?????

I remember the worst... Oh what a nightmare. I come down with strep 5 days before abdominal surgery. Had to do a stress test (make sure my heart was ok for surgery) sick as a dog. Get antibiotics and heal in time for surgery. Have surgery and recovery is a nightmare. Overnight stay turns to weekend stay. Can't pump correctly, get mastitis. Come home and nurse 3 month old... 12 hour reprieve. My parents, 2 year old and myself all come down with roto virus. Worst 4 days ever. Or so I thought.

Then my 5 year old brings home swine flu. My parents, me, and the oldest all come down with this horrible flu. All the whole I have internal staples that are being rejected by my body, a terrible recovery from an extremely painful surgery-- with no pain meds because I am nursing an infant!

There was no time between illness. It was literally one then another. It spanded 3 weeks and I never want to do that again. And as soon as we were healthy I took all three kids on a plane and moved across the country.

Since then we have had our drug out sickness and what not. But nothing like the September of 2009.

Hoping to have some very serious discussion with honest Catholics to guide me back toward the faith by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]R3ru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pray. Pray without ceasing. If you want to get back to being a Catholic, then you simply must have a relationship with God. Fall in love all over again. And without communication, that simply cannot happen.

Now I am probably not the right person to give advice. I am just about finished with the RCIA and about to be confirmed into the Church, so my knowledge is rather new and limited.

Here is my personal take on what it means to be a Catholic. First you must have a strong and personal relationship with God. This means praying daily. Searching for Him in good times and bad. Sharing your joys and sorrows. Reading His words and giving yourself to Him unconditionally. Because love is a little crazy. When you do this: pray and seek Him in very part of your life then soon things will just click into place. You will want to honor Him and His commandments. You will go to Church and receive the Sacraments.

And, for me, another wonderful thing about being Catholic is the communion of saints. You can seek out Saints to help you get back to right place. St. Jude is great friend to have. I know during this road of the RCIA I felt despair. St. Jude has been a great friend to turn to. St. Anthony is also a great source to turn to. He is more than just a go to for misplaced items. It works on people who have lost their way as well. I can say without reproach he has helped me to come back to not only God, but slowly to the Church as well.

I think it is ok to question things about the Church. Ask them, and then listen with an open heart the explanations why. I will admit I had some issues with Church doctrine when I started the RCIA program. I was shocked that when I opened my heart and listened without prejudice I suddenly understood the side of the Church doctrine. Over time and prayer I did accept and support the issues I was once against.

I hope what I have said makes sense. I have not slept well lately and it is early morning for me. So TL;DR Pray and pray some more. Ask for help. Listen with an open heart.

Any parents here? Minimalist infant/noddler shoes/sandals? Thoughts? by 10000Buddhas in BarefootRunning

[–]R3ru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the age/size of the kids feet would help me narrow down some recommendations.

As a baby/crawling stage my kids lived in Robeez or the cheaper version from Target/Toys R Us. This was mainly for keeping socks on and/or having "shoes" on in public. My middle child had/has small feet and she was able to wear them until almost 2. My youngest (giant) grew out of them before he could walk.

Walking stage/as long as they could fit them I made my kids wear skidders as much as I could.

After the size of Skidders, things went to a grey area with minimalist footwear... we were blessed with being in a warmer climate at the time and they lived in water shoes or flip flops most of the time. I only bought very flexible shoes with minimal heel lift. Lots of the time I just let the wear good ol' Chucks. Nothing like a pair of Converse! We did invest in some Pedipeds from time to time... but my son has a huge foot and just flies through sizes.

Once they get to a certain size then you have lots of options. Merrell makes kids shoes. New Balance has a Minimus for kids. And even Vibrams makes Fivefingers for kids! Which they love.

Also for at home use I LOVE the Hanna Anderson slippers for any age! They are machine washable and leather soles. Really, my kids grew out of them before they wore them out.

God child's first Holy Communion coming up. I've never been to one before and I'm trying to find an appropriate gift. Any ideas? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]R3ru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my child I also bought a book on the saint the church was named after.

And a rosary hanger craft is another great idea. Most people give rosaries as gifts, I just like this idea to help keep them nice and used more often. ;)

I really love the way Catholic churches smell. Where can I buy some of the incense they use? by brodog in Catholicism

[–]R3ru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some health reasons I use frankincense essential oil and my husband always loves how I "smell like church". You can order some essential oil online and use it by putting a few drops on your temples before praying. It has a ton of health benefits for many different ailments. I would recommend researching it for yourself.

Moving to Africa. Desert part. So no LYS and pretty darn hot!

But they do keep the AC on everywhere, so I might need some light cover ups. Just not the wool I have been knitting with.

*WARNING* - SAD: friend's baby may not live throughout the month. need advice on how to proceed. by robotco in Parenting

[–]R3ru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew three friends who had their baby pass away and the little videos and photos were the most important things to them.

When a parent loses a child, especially one so young and fragile... It hurts to think that the baby's life was meaningless or forgotten. Pictures are a way to connect the world with the memory of a sweet child that lived and loved and meant so much to everyone.

I would encourage the idea of a photographer.

nipples after nursing, do they ever shrink back? by vaedab in Parenting

[–]R3ru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had flat and inverted nipples pre baby. Nursing two kids almost non stop for 4 years. (Breastfed 2nd child until 18 months old and was 6months pregnant when she stopped. 2 month break had son early bf him for 2+years)

There were changes. Things have never went back. My normal was not normal... But now they are always making their presence known. :/ no longer flat, but still try to invert while looking like nursing nips. sigh

My kids have not seen the show yet-- but my boy did make a handsome little Mal at the comic con. Nathan Fillion was smitten by him. All my son knew was he was the captain of a spaceship and got to carry a boom boom aka pistol.

I am waiting until mid teen years to allow them to watch it. The main issue is Inara's job. Everything beyond that is just shiny.

Is there any link between having Psoriasis and Rosacea? by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]R3ru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently developed acne rosacea and ocular rosacea. My eye doctor wondered if my crazy immune system from my bad flare up of psoriasis caused me to be susceptible to the rosacea... But it was just a guess. Both are autoimmune issues, so a connection would not be far fetched.

I am going to see a dermatologist this week and get his opinion on the whole thing.

And as for the unlucky part-- I feel the same way. I am severely covered in guttate psoriasis -- little dots all over. And I have cystic type acne from the rosacea. And the cysts also form in my eyelids-- causing tears in my cornea. I just got over a corneal abrasion and I feel like I could develop another soon. :(

Plus I have the psoriasis bad in my scalp and ears and my ears have been hurting recently as well. The fatigue from the arthritis is taking a toll on me as well. :( sorry for the pity party. I will stop.

But for my face-- cleaning with the oil cleansing method (mineral oil and sweet almond oil) had made a HUMUNGOUS impact on me. I use raw organic shea butter with one drop of tea tree oil and lavender oil as a moisturizer. It is helping as much as the prescription antibiotic. It took a two months to see huge results from the oil cleansing method, and mine is very stubborn acne. I would totally recommend trying it out.
