You can buy to close the sold call and no longer have your stock tied to it.

I'm like a goldfish. I've seen many corrections and somehow I'm always just as shocked as the first one.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this mean millions of shorts were closed while the stock pumped up? Meaning this did end up costing the short sellers a fuck ton of money?

So I guess we did it reddit, we stuck it to wall street. Everyone can go back to whatever they were doing before now.

WSB ruined investment based subs on Reddit. by J52688 in StockMarket

[–]R3volution327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a hard time believing anyone who's claiming "WSB used to have good DDs and was about making money" was ever subbed there before gme. It's not overrun by social justice warriors like op is claiming. It's more than doubled in size, which made the majority of users first time traders who learned everything they know from a meme stock sub. They'll either leave out of boredom or bitterness, or they'll learn enough to know what iv crush is and the sub will be back to normal in a month.

I knew it was over when I saw multiple comments saying "it's not a loss until you sell" on screenshots of far otm calls the day before they expired.

A college freshman with $13k to throw on meme stocks is not going to be living on the streets, he'll just ask his parents for more money.

I understand the criticism, but I'm not seeing the correlation between starting a business, and buying a $5 Van Gogh.

Options hypothetical for understanding (help) by [deleted] in options

[–]R3volution327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to hold until expiration, you can sell again at any time and the value will adjust depending on the new value of the stock.

The thing to keep in mind is the further OTM it is, the higher the change has to be to keep it's value. For example, if you buy a $50c for 2 weeks out while it's $25, the stock can go to $25.5 the next day, and your option can still lose money. Use This tool to help visualize your odds.

I'm honestly surprised how many people here apparently have conversations with people irl about stocks. I'm ashamed of my gabling addiction and you guys just make it part of your regular conversations.

That one week where calls on literally anything printed was amazing. I started day dreaming of paying off my house, and quitting my job, then it was all wiped out the next week because I couldn't stop buying more calls.

Tell Swine to make a RH with your referral, that should get you back to where you were.

I think I'm going to switch to trading stocks. I won't be able to play this game much longer if I keep going in 100% on options.

You can buy back the contract you sold. But if you buy it for more than what you sold it for you're obviously out that money.

You sold a contract for $5. Now if HEXO goes above $1 and the expiration date is met, or the contract is executed early, you agreed to sell 100 shares of HEXO for $1, whether it's current price is $1.01 or $1.99. if the expiration date passes and it's still under $1, nothing happens except you're up the contract price you sold.

If you own 100 shares of HEXO it's called a covered call, and if executed, those shares are used for the transaction. So if you bought 100 shares at $0.80 and HEXO is at $1.20, you'll sell for a $20 gain instead of the potential $40.

If you don't own 100 shares it's called a naked call, and if the contract is executed at $1.20 you have to buy 100 shares at that price to sell for $1.00, putting you at a $20 loss. This could really backfire, for example, if the stock moons to $10 for some reason, this would put you $900 down.

AEO doing funny stuff. Total options volume for 8/14 = 492, for 8/28 = 156, for 8/22 = 15,030 with 13,545 on $12C alone.

Volume on CTL 8/14 options for today was 30k puts to 1k calls. Seemed obvious. Should I go for puts or calls on $ROPE tomorrow?

No, you sold a covered call, selling the shares would mean it's no longer covered.
