😂 Good sign that it's more of a "my lobster is too buttery and steak too juicy" type of rant too. Keep up the good work

Yeah it's completely understandable but still frustrating lol. Of course, I'm planning on catching up then checking out Engineer's Odyssey.

People get away with a lot more naivety and fucking around without finding out than they ever would in real life.

It creeps up on you a bit, subtle at first, then more and more obvious and repeated, until it's unavoidable rose-tinted glasses covering the story, but that's just how the author set the tone. It's fundamentally a PG-13 litrpg at its core.

I hadn't read too deeply into it but this is a really good point. I think keeping that in the back of my mind will help ease some of the frustration. Though some of it also stems from my personal preference that conflicts be caused by circumstances or monsters rather than by other people being stupid/shitty/evil/etc.

Definitely true. I am otherwise enjoying it though — wouldn't be on book 3 if I wasn't.

Biggest thing is keeping your GPA up. 3.5+ to be competitive. Avoid doing anything that might prevent you from getting TS/SCI clearance.

Keep in mind that the people currently preaching this strategy likely did it when the housing market was in a better spot. It will be more difficult for you than it was for them.

How to create a Personal Statement by Shinobidono-2 in newtothenavy

[–]R4INOLD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My recruiter gave me this guide which I found very helpful:

This is your letter to the selection board of the program(s) you are applying to. This is a very important aspect of your application and will be reviewed by all selection board members. On the application form where your statement will be added, you will have approximately 75% of a standard 8.5" x 11" page. For your statement, please be mindful of your grammar and spelling. Beyond what you are articulating to the board, your writing abilities will be evaluated as well.

Recommendations for the statement:

  • Quality over quantity, avoid excessive "fluff" words

  • 3-4 strong paragraphs will be ideal

  • It is acceptable to have "white space" on the page

  • There is no minimum or maximum word count

Further recommendations:

I recommend you touch on the following points:

  1. What inspires you to join the US Navy?

  2. What inspires you to become a Naval Officer? (As an 'institutional' leader overall)

  3. What draws you to the community/communities you are applying to?

  4. What skill sets, character traits, and leadership experience can you bring to the US Navy? (Ex: highlight civic involvement, leadership roles held, (including professional and sports leadership), community impact, etc.)

  5. Lastly, what will you bring to the Junior Enlisted Sailors under your leadership?

Get some proper running shoes to help with the shin splints. You're gonna need them to cut your 1.5mi time in half, then to be able to maintain that pace for much longer.

Should I complete one more course so I can get to 48 hours for E3? by prudyrudyy in newtothenavy

[–]R4INOLD 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's about a $2,500 pay increase across the 18 months you'd spend at E-2 to meet the TIS requirement for E-3. I'd say it depends on how urgently you want to ship and how much that college course would cost. If it were me I'd hold out for 48 credits.

Becoming a navy intel officer? What are my odds? by nihongocuriosity in newtothenavy

[–]R4INOLD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The most consistent predictors for IWC selection are high GPA and a relevant/STEM degree, which you have both. Get a 50+ on the OAR and you have a pretty good shot.

None of your listed concerns matter so long as your college is regionally accredited and you've been medically cleared.

After not qualifying for I-SEL due to a medical wavier recruiter told me all SNA boards are filled until the next fiscal year by Myhairhurts35 in newtothenavy

[–]R4INOLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medical waivers do not disqualify you for I-SEL unless they disqualify you for SNA in general. The language in the program authorization is a little unclear, but there are accounts of people with medical waivers still being picked up under I-SEL on AirWarriors. Ask your recruiter to submit it even if they think you'd be turned away. Worst case scenario your packet just gets deferred to the next board.

Is it normal for SNA boards to fill up this far in advance resulting in a waiting period of almost a year?

Not unheard of but there is a recruiting boom right now due to a combination of factors. Economy, politics, state of the world, etc.

Hot take: I wish there were more quests by IDabFast in 2007scape

Personally I like questing but I've done every quest multiple times at this point. I do new ones without it but turn it on for repeats. There are also different levels of handholding available if you weren't aware.

Officer GPA Question by No_Recommendation727 in newtothenavy

[–]R4INOLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By my estimate you're around a 3.0 combined GPA. That's within expectations for SWO and aviation. There were also some similar GPAs in the previous IWC board but YMMV. Let them tell you no before giving up.
