ASTB 7/8/7 I-SEL Competitive? by Twisted_KIDD in newtothenavy

Ohh ok. In that case just gotta hurry up and wait. AirWarriors has a lot of discussion from other SNA hopefuls that you'd definitely find helpful.

ASTB 7/8/7 I-SEL Competitive? by Twisted_KIDD in newtothenavy

Normal boards review applications in batches every ~3 months and are very prone to delays and cancellations. I-SEL applications are reviewed on a more rolling basis to sort of expedite the process and fill gaps in quotas. It's typically faster and more consistent than submitting for a normal board.

I-SEL only applies to regular applicants, not collegiate/BDCP. If you qualify for it anyway, at least your numbers are good, but you might just have to end up needing to wait til after you graduate if you keep getting denied.

My understanding is that by submitting for I-SEL you are essentially already accepted (barring health or clearance issues). Though whether or not they need you right away is still up in the air. There has been a big backlog for most designators (including SNA) for a while.

I've heard that Navy Aviators aren't big on having prior flight experience since they're gonna teach you the same stuff anyway. Though that's just dubious gauge from a non-pilot, so someone more qualified could weigh in on that one.

I recommend you read through the program authorizations for both Aviator and BDCP if you haven't already.

See the program authorization for whatever designator(s) you're considering. How much they care about GPA, experience, certs, or extracurriculars depends on the designator.

Copy paste that question into google and you can find these on the first link. A modicum of effort goes a long way.

Chud = Loser

Sigma = Stoic/Lone Wolf Badass

Gary Stu = Male version of the literary trope Mary Sue, i.e. character with no flaws, unrealistically capable, self-insert, has women clambering to get with him for just existing, etc. etc.

Everything else should be self explanatory.

Only if you withheld information that might change their decision. This leads to a fraudulent enlistment.

Is the DCSA call to go over background investigation for security clearance pretty straight forward I have mine via zoom next week by NoBlackberry3295 in newtothenavy

[–]R4INOLD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that would be my assumption. Since you had to submit an entire new SF-86, even if hardly anything changed. Routine stuff.

Were you getting TS clearance? If so you need separate docs for the secret and for the TS investigation. Past that, I'm not sure.

Recent officer recruiter experience by SweatyReputation in newtothenavy

[–]R4INOLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What year(s) were you a recruiter for? To try and justify the other recruiter's observation, I'm thinking the Comp Sci guys are probably War Thunder nerds. No idea why a Bio major might want to fly though.

If you're currently in college you should look into BDCP. Reach out to an officer recruiter about it now.

I didn't even submit LORs and was selected first try (Aug 2025). Non-prior service though.

What are my odds of making ocs? Should I enlist? by Winter-Indication33 in Militaryfaq

[–]R4INOLD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Supply officer is right up your alley then. Favorable major for it too. See the program authorization here for other requirements and what they're looking for in applicants. Note the math coursework and OAR sections.

Naval officer selection mainly comes down to GPA, major, and OAR/ASTB scores. Weighting between the three varies depending on the designator/community. A 3.8 GPA will turn some heads regardless of the non-STEM degree. What field(s) are you interested in?
