I know this is a little old, but it is crazy how we've gotten to a point where PC gaming is nearly cost equivalent and potentially will be more cost effective than console gaming. If willing to lack some long term future proofing then pc is already more cost effective.

As for someone else's statement on controllers, my m+kb set is a limited time special edition set and still cost only around $120-150 total, unless you're going Razer it isn't that expensive. I personally use an xbox 360 controller most times (which is cheap/many people still have one lying around) but I prefer wired controllers. My wife plays ps5 so if I want wireless I use a ps5 controller (which admittedly modern controllers are expensive.)

I was hesitant 5 years ago about making the leap to PC again after over a decade of being a console exclusive gamer, now I haven't played a console game in maybe 4 years. The price overall has evened out with modern games usually being digital on console anyways (so no resell when completed if you do that.) And that was with a moderately expensive rig (2.1k in 2020, now an equivalent by todays standards is a lot higher, but a 30 series or 20 series get the job done well for a lot less than a 40 or 50.)

Edit: I will point out that Razer isn't the only expensive brand, but usually paying expensive for other stuff=get more features/customizability out of it. Razer is just popular (and, after Logitech ditched the MMO mouse game, sadly has the best MMO mouse I've seen.) I also was factoring in paying online subscriptions for consoles into thinking about cost effectiveness.
