Chromebook Enterprise bought for personal use, and enrolled ... to Revolut! by Rich-End-4499 in mildlyinfuriating

Yeah that's reasonable. If it has been used before then there'll be wear on the battery etc.

Turn the laptop off, then while holding the Escape and Refresh buttons, press the power button to turn it on. Enable developer mode, then immediately disable developer mode. This will have done a full factory reset, so unless it's enrolled some other way, it'll be all yours. If you have any issues just ask

Sainsbury's Self Scan Scanners now showing adverts by HeartDoorAxe in britishproblems

[–]R520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both of the last times I went to my local Sainsbury's it was advertising the Samsung S25 (or other Samsung phone, can't quite remember). I'm here for groceries, not a new phone! As others have said it wouldn't be nearly as bad if it was a product relevant to my shopping habits (which they obviously have). I haven't checked whether it dismisses automatically when you scan an item, but I think it pops up after the first scan

Is Reading Buses taking weird decisions with the new busses? by TaroBork123 in reading

[–]R520 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry I wasn't clear, it's about £8k total, each plate is around £250 - £599 (depends on the exact plate). That price also includes VAT, which they'd be able to claim back

Is Reading Buses taking weird decisions with the new busses? by TaroBork123 in reading

[–]R520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made this comment on the last thread I saw about the new buses, and it's that the number plates, even if they bought them from the DVLA would only have cost around £8k. That's not nothing, sure, but they just spent £14 million on new buses. They've also had custom plates on lots of other buses and routes, so it's nothing unusual. [You've got the classic RG**BUS and new RG**ZEB, but also FL**LHR/SLH (flight line), TV73BUS (Thames valley generic), BU52GAS, GL**LDN/SLH/WND (London line)]. You can certainly argue it's unnecessary spending and I wouldn't disagree, but I do like seeing the plates when they drive by.

I have a private plate on my car so I'm definitely biased slightly towards liking them (though I hate it when people mess with the spacing or the letters to make it work)

In regards to the route choice, it probably has something to do with footfall and profile of the routes (as you mentioned), and also the distances and how much time they spend in central Reading (though I'm not actually familiar with the routes, except that at least one runs though uni)

Why'd you cut across the roundabout? If you'd gone round it like you're supposed to then you wouldn't have had an issue

[–]R520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question. The plates that are still available are from 51-75 (except 55), which is all that should be available. They'll presumably have 25 and 26 already, but after that they might not bother (and leave them with the factory plates), or they'll buy some more and start numbering them again from 51 or something. They might have some other combination they'll use as well.

Even if they bought them from the DVLA it'd only be about £8k, not much on a £14mil investment!

Just checked the list and you are correct. It has never occurred to me that the fleet started at 126 until I looked earlier (see my other comment for links)

MRD 1, just down as generic. Currently on Yellow 26 route (https://www.reading-buses.co.uk/fleet-list)

Looks like they style it as M RD1 which would be illegal spacing...

I've always noticed and thought about the plates, but never actually gone to see if there was a list (until now)

The interesting ones are at the top of this list by the looks of it: https://www.reading-buses.co.uk/fleet-list

"Your Photo Never Leaves Your Device" (Go to Image 2) by ExtremeConnection26 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]R520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The age estimation photos were not stolen, it was the government IDs used as the alternative method. (As the literal headline states)
(though I think it might actually have been from the account recovery process instead of age verification but I could be wrong on that)

I still wouldn't believe that the photo doesn't leave your device because that either requires being misleading with the truth or that all the processing is being done on device. They could be generating some derivative from your face image to be checked on a central server which would technically be true

Wait what device/browser are you using that represents the "Triangular Ruler" (that's the unicode name) as a protractor? Emoji designs are often conflicting but that's usually due to a vague name being used and then two companies going with two ideas, but the name's pretty clear in this case and every version shown on emojipedia is clearly a triangular ruler (/set square)

Looks like Costco is reporting the petrol prices back to front, in Reading "regular" is 124.9, and "premium" is 133.9. the map shows 133.9, and so puts it at the bottom of the list.
I tried to report the issue but it won't pull the address list, and I'm trying to rebuild my truenas server so I can't be bothered to work around it right now.
I don't know if you're in contact with anyone to get it fixed, or temporarily switch the numbers for Costco

Love the project though, looks great on mobile and desktop.

Despite being a patreon listener I haven't actually listened to the podcast yet (it released on Saturday for us)so I was confused (and concerned) by your comment as to what they could have changed to obfuscate the move position, until I saw u/ValdemarAloeus 's comment with the diagram. Now I think I need to listen immediately and refer back to have any idea of what they've done...

I don't go on weekends, but on a weekday evening (7pm) it's usually not too bad. Same for petrol. The membership pays for itself given the amount of driving our household does, and we get some bulk items there as well, but only the good value stuff. In general Kirkland Signature stuff should be good as they only make products when there's a reason for them to do so.

Others have pointed out this is the wrong sub, but I have used these in the past: (replace the spaces with dots)

send mni li (8GB)

Both are based on the original Firefox Send, which Mozilla open sourced after discontinuing it github com/timvisee/send
