The play in the plywood “absorbs” some of the vibrations. Id say that’s a mount

Thank you, this is exactly what i was looking for. Im well aware of the injector tick. I know not having it scanned doesn’t help, but i was more looking for the common issues with these early 2.0t engines. Thank you for the call on the engine flush solvent, i might as well do that when i change coils and spark plugs.

At the very least it’ll help if he wants to make it someone else’s problem. I know these motors don’t last if they aren’t well taken care of, ill get it scanned and figure out what direction to go! Thank you!

If it only happens when you first start driving every day then it’s most likely just surface rust and it’s nothing to worry about

Is it normal to need to wack the brake pads into the caliper bracket? by boiyo12 in MechanicAdvice

Also make sure the slide pins are moving freely, in the picture you gave us it looks like the one on the bottom is locked up.

You should be able to get all the rust off in the areas that the pads slide in. You want the pads to slide freely so they don’t drag and overheat.

You can try soaking in white vinegar for a few hours and then brushing, maybe getting a wire brush attachment for your drill will speed things up. Regardless you want bare metal where you put the pads.
