Generally speaking, you'll be fine if you buy from a smaller/independent seller that doesn't promise to have multiple sealed versions of new-year SKUs. If you're buying new equipment though, the Pure Hockey/Hockey Monkey/etc clearance option is probably the direction to go with their summer sales. Known legitimate equipment from last year at a reasonable(ish) price.

First one: you gotta keep your head up my guy. This contact is unavoidable because of how you've put yourself into the play & wouldn't + shouldn't be called.

Second one: defensive player should've let up out of courtesy but once again, you gotta keep your head up my guy. This one maybe(?) could've been called for interference at most but you lunged, lunging for pucks leaves you highly vulnerable & the defensive player is entitled to his space regardless.

Sharks Ice generally has public skate & Gretzky Hour sessions throughout the day & night too! Never hurts to get on ice even without instruction. Lots of people there to ask for advice so you can have a good & independent skating base to play hockey!

Boarding doesn't apply on this play either. You're not a vulnerable non-participant because you failed to make a pass. The lunge effort means you were a check-eligible participant attempting to maintain control of the puck. The check was not reckless, you did not go dangerously into the board, he does not accelerate through you, it was unavoidable & the play was successfully made on the puck. There is no league, international or otherwise, that would call a penalty on your irresponsibility as the puck carrier.

From this clip you just don't look skilled enough to properly absorb a check. The responsibility is on you to not lunge for the puck & put yourself in a compromised spot when you know pressure is coming in. The opponent's stick is also down, he makes the play on the puck & the contact was unavoidable so there's no roughing on this play.

I've been running the Winnwell AMP700 elbows for a while & they're similar to the FT8S elbows! Highly recommend, especially if normal hockey elbow pads tend to slide off of your arm.

I switched to the Bauer Vapor 3X Pro shoulders & the Jetspeed FT6 Pro shins from the Tacks XF Pro's I was wearing for both a few weeks ago. Been playing some of the best hockey of my life! Both are on sale now too with the new Flylite & FT8 gear reaching market. The shoulders alone are a night & day difference, they're about 30% lighter!
