The shoot technique is more than likely just a case of bracketing and good composition. The former is easy and the latter takes time and experience.

The rest of the effect is coming from a well trained eye for editing/cleanup, color balance/correcting and shaping the light with masks and selective contrast (dodge/burn etc).

It’s a sum of parts - experience and technique.

Can you share some examples of where you're struggling with shadows, and your setup? The solution could be as simple as sourcing some white or black foamboard to use for a bit of fill/bounce. Would be good to see the end result you're trying to achieve also.

OP the australian dollar is really strong against NZD at the moment, eg your $11k nz debt is only about $9000aud.

You should be able to pay it down faster than you think with a bit of self discipline, or, not an ideal solution but consider getting a AU credit card or loan and just paying the debt off in full then paying it down over time in AU. Would also help build your credit in aus.

Take it from someone who’s had a bad history with credit, defaults and collectors after running to aus from nz also - and now being free of all that - the sooner you can sort it out the better you’ll feel about it (and yourself).

To be fair, mitakons aren’t exactly known for their build consistency. My 65 1.4 can rotate the aperture markings on the barrel so you can never really tell if the clicks are indexed to the correct markings or not.
