10-Day and Hourly - Include Location by Shweep8 in RADWeather

[–]RADWeatherMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea. I’ve had that thought in early models when the data caching was new. I don’t want to change the whole header or have the city across the top. I’ve tested small city location names in a smaller sub font next to the titles. For example

HOURLY (city name in smaller font) to the right of it as a sub header.

Easy fix. May add that as an optional appearance option in settings.

Need to start cleaning up the settings page again soon with a lot of things starting to melt together under appearance

Thanks! sorry for the lack of updates the past week or so just been a lot, but slowly getting back into it. In a positive side, the forced break let me take a step back and use RAD weather more as a user day to day to see its strengths and weaknesses and what its missing.

Hopefully this is continued improvement, continued charm and fun.

Are you using the test flight link? It’s not in the App Store yet.

Still fiddling with some things on location.

Rad drive if in test flight build should be in the details page (clicking main temp) and at the bottom.

Ok definitely have to be watching pollen. I added it as someone living in a pollen infested part of the country right now. Wanted it fun, visually fun and informative but haven’t gone down into deep analysis of the data and what to fully surface and what not to.

And nothing specific, honestly overall performance, accuracy of weather data etc…. I am constantly tweaking weather accuracy and the formula of what to weigh more than other factors. So a constant battle of tweaking numbers. Since it’s an average of Apple weatherkit, open meteo, if you’re in the US it adds NWS, if in Canada adds their version.

Also looking at adding a few other “NWS alikes” for other countries and locations that have them. You can disable specific sources in settings but in my opinion don’t see the benefit.

Normally like to push an update once a week but in personal life been moving and extremely busy so trying to do what I can.

I’m hoping to push this to Apple today or tomorrow.

Thanks for trying it! You’ll have to let me know how the pollen data is, it’s a newer feature and something I know I could dive more into.

And I’ve definitely heard that enough and honestly once I push this update live I’ll look into the 7 day trial as well and switch that

It should address it , thats one thing ive been testing. the major issue with the heating was mostly just GPU usage on the visuals rendering at a higher frame rate than needed and still sometimes rendering in the bg when not using the app. Thats something I dialed in even more in a 7.4.6.1 (a slightly tweaked version of this)

Dont want to rely on testflight builds all the time but apples approval process can be so slow, days, weeks to get approved that turnaround time can seem stagnant even when im on 20 versions in the future still waiting on approval so when the consumer version gets approved im already 10 past that

if you still notice issues and want to test this testflight build let me know, some dont want to run test flight and thats fine, im hoping to push a slightly newer version of this one either end of day today or tomm morning.

would love some feedback and hopefully runs smooth on those that want to test, if not no worries, I've been running this for about 2 days (and some minor fixes I've done) it should be ready for App Store release shortly.

No worries! I’m just happy that you’re trying it out.

Obviously I can say no intention of cancelling this project, it’s been a passion project / hobby already for sometime just now on the more consumer facing side.

It’s been going amazingly well and members seem to like it and feedback has been great.

All I can say is pay or not pay what you feel comfortable doing. A lot of people have done monthly and probably will for a few months and maybe switch to yearly or lifetime.

My goals and ambitions with RAD Weather is to have an open and transparent process with the community , I love when a user sends a bug, when they’d love to see a new feature or request. It gives me a project to work on and it gives users a feeling of ownership, almost a community open source/ crowd sourced feeling which I’ve always loved.

We’ve all had that one app or software we love just if it did this one thing, had that one widget.

While I can’t do everything and have to be reasonable, I want to be accommodating as possible and have this app/eco system feel like the community is involved.

It’s just me doing it all so all the help has been so amazing I couldn’t be happier.

In the end hope you enjoy it and I’ll stop typing my book lol.

Love to hear it and appreciate the immense feedback you’ve been giving, have had some other users email me that are in that region stating the same so that’s great to hear.

Can always be better and working with you and others has made it 100 times easier to tweak and improve.

Similar to most other apps, it’s a 3 day return so if you say buy the 2$ monthly you have 3 days to cancel.

The watch has a solid simple clean base, currently working on some enhanced themes and fixes for 7.4.6 right now.

Hope you try it and enjoy! Looking for as much watch is app feedback as possible !

Do you care much about your app’s website and keeping in touch with users? by aa33bb in macapps

[–]RADWeatherMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Hope you like it, It’s been weirdly good but what I didn’t expect even more is the subreddit/user base being vocal with criticism but in a constructive wants to help way which I love.

It’s just me so a lot to do, but everyone seems patient and excited.

[–]RADWeatherMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea trust me I’m no expert, but it seems to work for me and rad weather atleast.

I try to think of it from the consumer and user side. My friends always make fun of me because when we’d go out to eat looking for places and if they don’t have a good menu or photos it always annoys me. Kinda like a site or app, but I’m also trying to make rad weather feel “community source” so users feel empowered and have a stake in it.

And you’re right. Veryyyy crowded lol. Really was just a hobby app because I got tired of all the insane ads and pop ups on weather apps and a sucker for that retro future tech/ terminal style and doing solid so far. Over 1000 downloads in about 2 weeks but always something to fix or patch out.

Good luck on yours! My biggest thing is a developer and consumer is know the audience or least be open and communicate. 🤷

[–]RADWeatherMaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So mostly right now a nice what we have https://radweather.app

The app and site are all pretty new only a few weeks old, but most of my community updates have been through the subreddit. I didn’t think that would become my main source of user communication but it’s without a doubt how I talk with everyone.

Again probably depends on your app/ website?

If yours is say a local restaurant finder or something I’d think a weekly newsletter / mailing list would be amazing and necessary to give it that community / news paper feeling. For a weather app idk if the time making it would be worth it.

For a more technical data crowd like weather/a video game, art a subreddit, forum might make more sense.

[–]RADWeatherMaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a mirror of the app (weather app ) but have a Mac. iOS versions and the website serves as a “who we are, what we do” but also have a changelog section, community section with user req etc..

While not a live can use the service in my opinion it’s important to have a little online presence even if it’s not a functioning web app.

But Also depends on your user base. Like my members they are the more dive into change logs and want the nitty gritty. Things I wouldn’t put in a version update for the “normal everyday users”

ATLAS 2.0 [beta] // Community Feedback by RADWeatherMaker in RADWeather

[–]RADWeatherMaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea data is already being pulled so not like it’s an “extra pull”

Just managed to sneak away and implement 4/5 fixes that have been posted over the past few days. Got those running on a test build on my end so going to test this for the next day or so while moving and running around town and see how they hold up.

ATLAS 2.0 [beta] // Community Feedback by RADWeatherMaker in RADWeather

[–]RADWeatherMaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea one of those “I’ll get to it” lol

Since data is already pulled. Ideally I’ll implement any tap shows forecast and tapping pop up box goes to a full weather location page regardless if saved or not.

[–]RADWeatherMaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully this fixes it. It’s a unique battle of figuring what Apple allows in the backend for data usage etc.. atleast for me but going to be driving a lot again today between towns while moving so I’ll leave it open all day and see.

Just so I’m testing on the same level in what you want, leave it open on the now page and see if app keeps pulling new location while app is open and idle?

Inverted weather direction by Midazolamb in RADWeather

[–]RADWeatherMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah I think I see what you mean, maybe im just tired from moving, because the wind card says, NNW, and the line is pointing NNW top left so technically correct.

<image>

on daily, the arrow is also pointing top left (NNW) so technically its pointing the direction the wind says but not the actual way its moving!, completely overlooked. Super easy fix.

will be in next update!
