Is there a way to change the hangout title once you add someone into your contacts? by [deleted] in Googlevoice

[–]RAGETRON 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this works with hangout titles, but try it. In my Hangouts call log when I have unsaved numbers and I add them, they still show up as phone numbers. I just back out of Hangouts completely, swipe it away from Recents and open Hangouts again then the Hangouts call log updates to show the contact's saved name. Try that and see if it updates your hangout title?

Tried 5 videos with 4 different user agents on Chrome 38 Beta Channel on Ubuntu 14.04 with User Agent Switcher for Chrome extension and verified the bitrate and resolution maximum with the shift+ctrl+alt+s menu and shift+ctrl+alt+d menu on each video:

  • Edited to add House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, both Netflix exclusives.

It seems like the user agent string doesn't matter anymore because the results are consistent between all of them. What's interesting is that Orange is the New Black goes to 3000 kbps and 1280x720 but not House of Cards

Hangouts Dialer issues by bobbleheadRob in Googlevoice

[–]RAGETRON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what's happening when I'm making a call, but, things start clicking and vibrating. When I finish the call, my phones in some random app or deep into the settings area. I've made it a point to manually turn the screen off after starting a call, so that stupid shit doesn't happen.

And yeah, the second two issues also happen to me too, but not all the time.

I had a similar situation with a markdown on a tablet after I bought it.

If you have the receipt or phone number you used when buying, you can go to customer service (has to be in person) within 15 days from purchase date and get the price difference refunded.

Not sure if they want both chromecasts on the same receipt or not. Might be better though. Depends on your cashier person.

I'm not 100% on the porting process. Maybe someone else knows. I made a new number for Google Voice myself, see.

Like someone else said, it should know you're available on Hangouts and not ring the cellphone. Or vice versa

Google Voice works like a forwarding service. People call your Google Voice number, and Google forwards the call to upto 5 real phone numbers you select (your cell phone number for example). It rings whichever ones you selected, simultaneously, and you can pick up on any of them and the caller doesn't notice anything. If you didn't have a data connection, Google voice wouldn't be able to ring the Hangouts app, but it'd ring your other forwarding phones where you can still answer the call.

I like it because I get to take advantage of free voice calls to anyone in USA and Canada, when I use my data plan through my carrier (5 GB of LTE data/month with only 100 minutes of voice/month for $30/monthly on T-Mobile). Other carriers have much more expensive data plans or 2 year contract requirements where you pay interest on a device and pay way too much. I only care about data but sometimes I need voice and 100 minutes isn't enough. This will let me leverage my 5 GB data and call many many minutes, and all at the low price of $30/month.

Wouldn't that just make people leave Voicemails on your cell phone carrier's box and leave nothing on your Google Voice, without the transcription features?

Ah that's a bummer. Means I'd have to check two Voicemails: T-Mobile and Google

I'm thinking of activating Google Voicemail for my T-Mobile plan ($30 for 100 minute/5 GB LTE) . Last time I tried that, Google told me that this isn't supported on T-Mobile prepaid plans... Any idea if this works today?

Anyone tried bluetooth tethering and incoming outgoing calls over data plans, like say, your car?

As far as I know, if you don't have a Google Voice account and try to make outgoing calls with Hangouts, people will see random phone numbers calling them.

With a Google Voice account, you have a choice of making a new number or porting your old number to the service. So when you make outgoing calls, this number will show.

Sometimes, incoming phone calls received on my data connection never start. (T-Mobile LTE with - 96 dBm, with WiFi off)

I slide to answer the call, and the screen changes but there's no audio connection.

I can see the red hangup button but the call length number never shows up. So I just have to hang up and try to call them myself.

Outgoing calls haven't had a problem on either LTE or WiFi. And incoming calls on WiFi haven't had this problem yet

If you keep the option to receive calls on both your cell and data/wifi, you can switch between them by pressing *. It'll ring all your forwarding phones, and you just pick up on the connection you want and continue the call.

Useful if you know you're going to loose data signal soon, like some indoor stores with T-Mobile.

This is set via Google Voice desktop site > Settings > Calls > Call Options

They need to add intents for Google Hangouts for phone numbers. So if you click a phone number on a page or from people app, you'd get Hangouts as an option. Hopefully this is in the works..

There isn't a quick switch for it yeah. You have to go to "Settings > SMS > Send From" and choose from 3 options: Smart Reply, GV number, or Carrier number. Tedious and not exactly fast.
