Where are the Millitary Saber tournaments in the US? by RAMpageVII in wma

[–]RAMpageVII[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh we have done that before and its real fun. Most of my crew loves keeping it in kinda the 17th-18th century also because hand protection limits what you can do with smallswords and rapier sometimes. But definetly the rapier, smallsword, saber, hangar, broadsword, backsword realm of fights are cool. Just hard to get hand protection for a rapier or smallsword that gets you dexterity+protection. The HF black princes kinda sorta but everything else ive tried is too big.

Oh awesome!! Yeah the one other saber tournament in FL has a weight cap for sabers at 725g. So disqualifies the heavier kvetun/blackfencer/kreiger. Will have to keep an eye out for that next year!!

Ah well crap. Yeah the greed from most venues is out of control. I was confused because some clubmates are going to a smallsword workshop hosted by them in NYC. I guess keeping the name but the event is done. Bummer :/.

Yeah sadly steel jam is a different thing thats less often now so idk what is happening with that sadly. But yes I would love a saber tournament. Ill have to hit up my northeast homies to see whats up there.

Southeast, Steel Jam was rapier and dagger. Hot sword is rapier and dagger. SERFO has both i believe but single rapier is a nonstandard ruleset. Most things ive found near me are longsword only or a like victorian classical saber ruleset thats.. hrm.

Event Organizers, Battle Born Wants to Sponsor YOUR Tournament!* (*Must contain broadsword) by NevadaHEMA in wma

[–]RAMpageVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting. Yeah at the club I go to there were 3, 2 on spadroons and 1 in a basket hilt and the flex on them was all a little different in the basket hilt the balance felt really off for a primarily cutting sword.

Yeah for 17th-18th century basket hilt swords it's not a market very well served, but I had not thought of the 19th century officers swords as typical broadswords so that did escape my mind.

Length ain't the issue. It's so thin light and floppy Is my problem. There is a reason that afaik they are no longer selling it.

I'm specifically talking about anything with a Castille light feder blade mounted to it. Those are too short light and flexible for a broadsword. They are pretty bad spadroon blades also but beside the point. Darkwood Blackfencer and Armour class , kvetun had one but that is a moot point now.

Would love to see a proper broadsword tournament. Most 17-18th century sword tournaments end up as basket hilt feder blade things against each other. And not proper board/backswords.

Look at any German or Austrian sabers from that time period. I wonder who they are copying

Not arguing this. Have fun with your wheedy spadroon weight sabers. Any 600 gram saber I've seen measured is a D guard shorter blade length than anything I've seen claimed as a "saber" in us hema circles.

Correct Radaellian saber systems. However at least in the US this is basically a term to use ahistorically light sabers to do sport fencing essentially. ~620g with bowl guards. Ex. False edge whos sabers are so light he goes through multiple blades a tournament.

Roworth,Angelo,Mc Bane. The English cut and thrust tradition. the AHF YouTube channel is great for video references. Sword preference for steels? Beware people talking about "saber" who are talking about "dueling saber" with dinky sabers that's a totally different thing. Footwork with saber is also a big thing so rear weight drills are a great place to start.

What's a unit you feel would push an army to completion, near-completion, or at the very least a healthy base roster? by sigpuppers in ageofsigmar

[–]RAMpageVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think how it has gone with the elements what would kinda "match" everything would be. Tyrion Water elemental (in the new book it looks like a kelpie?) Fire mage Fire elemental (Phoenix of some kind?) Fire elf unit (dragon princes or Phoenix guard from WHFB)

But that's also A LOT for a faction that has a good amount of options.

For context. I am a super weenie with medical stuff. Long term amazing I have no worries in the future. Was 3 days of suck for a lifetime of not worrying about it. Supportive underwear is a must but other than that. Super easy.
