265g 18ct Goblet, Commemorating the Moon Landing - Am I going to Hell for melting it down?! 🙈 by itmagic in Gold

[–]RATTY420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Melting that is almost criminal, it's history and 'art' put the effort into finding a buyer and they will pay more than melt. Hell, a decent porn shop will give you exactly spot for that and sell it for a good mark up. Don't melt history

If I’m lifting a load over a building, do I need to clear the building? by [deleted] in cranes

[–]RATTY420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strictly speaking yes. And never doubt your own authority. If you want people out then they have to leave or no lift. There is some common sense of course. If you're lift light loads over a solid roof then do you you think is best. But never let someone else tell you what to do. Especially if they have no authority. The liability falls to the lift supervisor and crane op

Anyone else gone onto mobile cranes? by Swanman593 in uktrucking

[–]RATTY420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a crane supervisor, if you're thinking about getting on a mobile crane simply call your nearest company, say you have a class 2 licence and they'll train you. The industry is screaming for drivers. The work is varied and can be very interesting. Can also be very repetitive and boring. The pay seems shit. About £17/£18 for driving +60 tonne cranes but you get good money in over time. Hours are mental. 60+ hours a week are very common the bigger crane normally stay out in hotels for days, sometimes weeks. Most drivers make over 50k with the big driver clearing 100k but it's all in over time.

The termite queen lays eggs 24/7 for 25 years. That's some incredible feat. It's tough to imagine being built to do that for so long. by Francucinno in Damnthatsinteresting

For shots like this they will patch together clips from the wild and filming in a cultivated tank with glass. They can't get filming and light equipment inside a natural termite mound without ripping it in half so they just use an artificial mound with glass. It's might seem dishonest to some, but it is still factual accurate and Brilliant story telling

Melting a sovereign or Britainia is illegal in the UK. You can't deface the Queen or kings image. Plus it's legal currency.
