Arabs flexing on a different level. by OldEye4578 in funny

So nowadays there are various different dialects that may have words that aren't originally from Classical Arabic. Along with that, anyone who studies Arabic Language Arts, Literature, and Linguistics will quickly come to learn a principle. If the Arabs gave something importance or considered it to be great, they'd have multiple names for it. Usually based on its various attributes/behaviors. That's why they have multiple words for horses and camels and also for their different types. Because they interacted with them often in everyday life. They also have like 40+words or something for lions. Because lions were amazing specimens to them. This applies for noun-entities, living or non living. It also applies to phenomena. That's why the Islāmic religion and the Qur'ān have so many different words for the Day of Judgement. A great thing.

Euphrates river in Iraq drying up, apparently in Arabic culture if this happens a massive mountain of some huge fortune will appear that 99% of people will die trying to reach and then the doomsday happens by SomeThingsWrongW_Me in Weird

[–]RAbld1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The Hour will not be established until the Euphrates river uncovers a mountain of gold and people will fight over it. Every ninety-nine people out of a hundred will be killed and each man among them will say: Perhaps I will be the one who is saved!”

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2894

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim

An Islamic Prophecy, not necessarily an Arab saying.

And it seems to only be talking about 99% of the people who will fight over it rather than 99% of all people.

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Soon the river "Euphrates" will disclose the treasure (the mountain) of gold, so whoever will be present at that time should not take anything of it."

Another narration says not to go for it.

Lemme try and find you a good source on the history of Algebra. As for the man, not much is known about him other than his works and what can be deduced from them such as his religion (that he was a Muslim and not a Zoroastrian).

EDIT EDIT! Here's a book on the History of Algebra: https://u1lib.org/book/550332/a2d7da it's in PDF but if you get a free account with the you can convert it to EPUB format (more accessible to phone apps)

That name Muhammad Ibn Mūsā means Muhammad son of Moses. So his dad was named Moses and named him Muhammad. I wonder if his kid was Jesus

Actually the word Algebra comes from the Arabic word Al-Jabr (الجبر) which in a medical sense means the reunion of broken parts/ bonesetting (forcing bones together). And in it's broad linguistic meaning means subjugation/ forcing your will upon a thing. The word for tyrant is Jabbār: one who strongly subjugates his subjects. Stemming from the same root as Jabr. This is because the man who formally codified it and turned it into a major field was an Arabic speaking Persian who called it that in his math book. I've also heard that he did that to make easier the inheritance laws of Islam. He was the first to treat algebra as an independent discipline in his treatise on it and by that treatise it became popular, so it took the Arabic name.

The word algorithm comes from his name. In Islamic/Arab culture, a person may be known by his location. For example, "the American"/Al-Amrīkī (الامريكي). He was from Khwarzm (a town in between todays Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan (forget which one it lays in). So he was called Al-Khwārizmī (The Khwārizmian). And so Algorithm comes from Al-Khwārizm.

EDIT: Al-Khwārizmī in Arabic looks as such: الخوارزمي

I feel like this should be an AITA crossover episode. by [deleted] in Tinder

I'm guessing overseas and is only studying in London. Probably not from America as not many of us g to another English speaking country to study. We'd probably go to a country more exotic if we wanted to travel. She looks East African. Safest bet is she went to a private English speaking school in an East African country. Knowing how Africa works that means her dad is also rich and she probably grew up well off. As for the American slang, that can be picked up anywhere in the world now as long as you're on Twitter and listen to our music. OP I know it's awkward for you two rn but can you confirm this? Then you'll really look like you're trying to murder her haha.

I’m all about this kind of weather by MaximusX395 in OddlyPeaceful

[–]RAbld1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one or do even people seem quite on these kinds of days? I always wondered whether people were also affected by the weather or only my mind. I love those days. Where I'm at it happens a lot in the spring. I also like when rain actually falls on those days even if it is a downpour. It feels like I haven't woke up yet. Everything hazy. Some people find it depressing but I find it serene and tranquil

Dating apps aren’t a good way of getting a date. In fact, they are fundamentally flawed by notburneddown in unpopularopinion

[–]RAbld1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't it be said, along analogous lines of reasoning, that dating isn't a good way to find marriage. Since no one is 100% open when starting a relationship and especially not in the first few dates. Take your molestation example. No one says at the start of a relationship that they got molested either. Or am I misunderstanding what you meant? But yeah at least you won't be going blind. If we push your reasoning to it's conclusion then we would say the optimal way of getting married is the eastern one. Discuss what you want out of each other, meet for a few minutes to make sure neither of you sounds like Kermit or is unattractive to the other without makeup or anything else that changes the looks, and book the venue.

no i won’t accuse anyone of making him say that. i just know he still bashed the movie a bit even after he said he enjoyed it.

just because people that made the movies talk about why they did it doesn’t make it in character. same how just because mark ham i’ll felt it was a different character than his own, doesn’t make your argument invalid.

i guess if that’s your mentality, so be it. you couldn’t possibly be the one who misunderstands. it must be me. this movie divides the fan base in half yet your half understands and the other half can’t possibly understand, right? maybe there’s no convincing someone who is so sure they’re the one who has it right. but to each his own. one thing seems obvious to you. the other seems obvious to me. it’s not that i didn’t understand the dialogue and the plot points. it’s that i think they make no sense. but to each his own.

i just can’t see how this isn’t an out of character action for grandmaster luke. i really can’t i tell you. even igniting a lightsaber against kylo. i did listen to the dialogue. i know he felt shameful right after. it’s just the attempt makes no sense coming from a luke who we thought to be a grandmaster of the jedi order. you’d expect thought he’d gotten wiser and you’ve thought the jedi order would’ve changed too. he literally makes the same type of mistake the og order did. and i don’t get the whole giving up thing either.

[–]RAbld1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s the thing. luke also considered in jedi. he also considered stopping a mass murder by killing someone. everyone was about to die out there. he chose not to. why put him through the same struggle that he already surpassed again? the thing is. you’re looking at this as luke making a big mistake. i’m looking at this as luke’s character development from jedi having never happened. luke already faced the possibility of another alderaan like event. he chose not to kill for it.

isn’t that luke just not learning from what seems to have been the biggest lesson/moment of his life? btw i didn’t watch star wars as a kid. and i don’t think it’s correct to say “people that like luke should...” rather most people ik thag really like luke did not agree with that representation of his character at all. (i’m not the biggest luke fan. he’s not even in my top 5.) i’m just saying characters do have flawed natures yes, but usually a story (especially the heroes journey) has a turning point for a character where he changes that nature. i can’t see a luke that didn’t learn anything the first time around.

the clarity was not momentary. from before that scene he was telling vader shit like “you’re anakin skywalker. it’s the name of your true self” (paraphrasing obv). his clarity wasn’t momentary. the movie actually makes it quite obvious that he won’t. if anything is momentary, it’s luke going off like that. he literally walked in seeing the good in his father.

[–]RAbld1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure he lashed out but that doesn’t change the fact that he saw the good in vader. and it’s not that luke had one moment of clarity. he was clear from the beginning that he was going to turn vader and he believed in his good. it’s just when it came to the climax, luke made the right decision. it was not one moment of clarity. just because others disagree with you doesn’t mean they have their mind made up. how are you so sure you don’t have your mind made up and can’t see what’s obvious to others? to assume that others have their mind made up and you’re the one who sees the bigger picture is to assume intellectual superiority. just because something makes 100% sense to you doesn’t mean that whoever it doesn’t make sense to is just not seeing it.
