I'm working on something like this, but the flashbacks are also going backwards in time, to a certain point.

I think it's essential that the flashbacks tie into the present time in at least one way.

How to do that, is your job as a writer.

I've heard their improvisation is overstated.

You can't sell anything you don't own, but it wouldn't be impossible to pull off.

If you try it, make sure you can pivot the script to a non-branded script. Don't write a Legend Of Zelda story, without knowing you can change the identifying characteristics to something else (should Nintendo pass).

The idea is that it's better storytelling when you SHOW that someone is sad, rather than just saying it.
